הַשָּֽׁעְרָה׃ at the gate haš·šā·‘ə·rāh Deuteronomy 22:16 הַנַּעַר [and] han·na·ʿar אֲבִ֥י - ’ă·ḇî וְאָמַ֛ר say wə·’ā·mar אֶל־ to ’el- הַזְּקֵנִ֑ים the elders , haz·zə·qê·nîm אֶת־ - ’eṯ- נָתַ֜תִּי “ I gave nā·ṯat·tî בִּתִּ֗י my daughter bit·tî לְאִשָּׁ֖ה in marriage lə·’iš·šāh הַזֶּ֛ה to this haz·zeh לָאִ֥ישׁ man , lā·’îš וַיִּשְׂנָאֶֽהָ׃ but he has come to hate her . way·yiś·nā·’e·hā Deuteronomy 22:17 וְהִנֵּה־ And now wə·hin·nêh- ה֡וּא he hū שָׂם֩ has accused her śām עֲלִילֹ֨ת of shameful conduct ‘ă·lî·lōṯ דְּבָרִ֜ים . . . , də·ḇā·rîm לֵאמֹ֗ר saying , lê·mōr מָצָ֤אתִי ‘ I discovered that mā·ṣā·ṯî לְבִתְּךָ֙ your daughter lə·ḇit·tə·ḵā לֹֽא־ was not lō- בְּתוּלִ֔ים a virgin . ’ bə·ṯū·lîm וְאֵ֖לֶּה But here is the proof wə·’êl·leh בִתִּ֑י of [her] ḇit·tî בְּתוּלֵ֣י virginity . ” bə·ṯū·lê וּפָֽרְשׂוּ֙ And they shall spread out ū·p̄ā·rə·śū הַשִּׂמְלָ֔ה the cloth haś·śim·lāh לִפְנֵ֖י before lip̄·nê הָעִֽיר׃ the city hā·‘îr זִקְנֵ֥י elders . ziq·nê Deuteronomy 22:18 זִקְנֵ֥י Then the elders ziq·nê הַהִ֖וא of that ha·hi·w אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הָֽעִיר־ city hā·‘îr- וְלָֽקְח֛וּ shall take wə·lā·qə·ḥū הָאִ֑ישׁ the man hā·’îš וְיִסְּר֖וּ and punish him . wə·yis·sə·rū אֹתֽוֹ׃ - ’ō·ṯōw Deuteronomy 22:19 וְעָנְשׁ֨וּ They are also to fine wə·‘ā·nə·šū אֹת֜וֹ him ’ō·ṯōw מֵ֣אָה a hundred [shekels] mê·’āh כֶ֗סֶף of silver ḵe·sep̄ וְנָתְנוּ֙ and give them wə·nā·ṯə·nū הַֽנַּעֲרָ֔ה to the young woman’s han·na·‘ă·rāh לַאֲבִ֣י father , la·’ă·ḇî כִּ֤י because kî הוֹצִיא֙ this man has given hō·w·ṣî בְּתוּלַ֣ת a virgin bə·ṯū·laṯ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel yiś·rā·’êl רָ֔ע a bad rā‘ עַ֖ל . . . ‘al שֵׁ֣ם name . šêm תִהְיֶ֣ה And she shall remain ṯih·yeh וְלֽוֹ־ his wə·lōw- לְאִשָּׁ֔ה wife ; lə·’iš·šāh לֹא־ he must not lō- יוּכַ֥ל . . . yū·ḵal לְשַּׁלְּחָ֖הּ divorce her ləš·šal·lə·ḥå̄h כָּל־ as kāl- יָמָֽיו׃ס long as he lives . yā·māw Deuteronomy 22:20 וְאִם־ If, however , wə·’im- הַזֶּ֑ה this haz·zeh הַדָּבָ֖ר accusation had·dā·ḇār הָיָ֔ה is hā·yāh אֱמֶ֣ת true , ’ĕ·meṯ לֹא־ and no lō- לַנַּעַר׃ proof of the young woman’s lan·na·ʿar בְתוּלִ֖ים virginity ḇə·ṯū·lîm נִמְצְא֥וּ can be found , nim·ṣə·’ū Deuteronomy 22:21 הַנַּעַר [she] han·na·ʿar וְהוֹצִ֨יאוּ shall be brought wə·hō·w·ṣî·’ū אֶת־ - ’eṯ- אֶל־ to ’el- פֶּ֣תַח the door pe·ṯaḥ אָבִ֗יהָ of her father’s ’ā·ḇî·hā בֵּית־ house , bêṯ- אַנְשֵׁ֨י and there the men ’an·šê עִירָ֤הּ of her city ‘î·rāh וּסְקָלוּהָ֩ will stone her ū·sə·qā·lū·hā בָּאֲבָנִים֙ . . . bā·’ă·ḇā·nîm וָמֵ֔תָה to death . wā·mê·ṯāh
