עַל־ by ‘al- נְהַר־ the River nə·har- כְּבָ֑ר Kebar , kə·ḇār הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם the heavens haš·šā·ma·yim נִפְתְּחוּ֙ opened nip̄·tə·ḥū וָאֶרְאֶ֖ה and I saw wā·’er·’eh מַרְא֥וֹת visions mar·’ō·wṯ אֱלֹהִֽים׃ of God . ’ĕ·lō·hîm Ezekiel 1:2 בַּחֲמִשָּׁ֖ה On the fifth ba·ḥă·miš·šāh לַחֹ֑דֶשׁ day of the month — la·ḥō·ḏeš הִ֚יא it hî הַחֲמִישִׁ֔ית was the fifth ha·ḥă·mî·šîṯ הַשָּׁנָ֣ה year haš·šā·nāh לְגָל֖וּת of the exile lə·ḡā·lūṯ הַמֶּ֥לֶךְ of King ham·me·leḵ יוֹיָכִֽין׃ Jehoiachin — yō·w·yā·ḵîn Ezekiel 1:3 דְבַר־ the word ḏə·ḇar- יְ֠הוָה of YHWH Yah·weh הָיֹ֣ה came hā·yōh הָיָ֣ה directly hā·yāh אֶל־ to ’el- יְחֶזְקֵ֨אל Ezekiel yə·ḥez·qêl הַכֹּהֵ֛ן the priest , hak·kō·hên בֶּן־ the son ben- בּוּזִ֧י of Buzi , bū·zî בְּאֶ֥רֶץ in the land bə·’e·reṣ כַּשְׂדִּ֖ים of the Chaldeans kaś·dîm עַל־ by ‘al- נְהַר־ the River nə·har- כְּבָ֑ר Kebar . kə·ḇār שָׁ֖ם And there šām יְהוָֽה׃ YHWH’s Yah·weh יַד־ hand yaḏ- וַתְּהִ֥י was wat·tə·hî עָלָ֛יו upon him . ‘ā·lāw Ezekiel 1:4 וָאֵ֡רֶא I looked wā·’ê·re וְהִנֵּה֩ and saw wə·hin·nêh ר֨וּחַ a whirlwind rū·aḥ סְעָרָ֜ה . . . sə·‘ā·rāh בָּאָ֣ה coming bā·’āh מִן־ from min- הַצָּפ֗וֹן the north , haṣ·ṣā·p̄ō·wn גָּדוֹל֙ a great gā·ḏō·wl עָנָ֤ן cloud ‘ā·nān וְאֵ֣שׁ with fire wə·’êš מִתְלַקַּ֔חַת flashing back and forth miṯ·laq·qa·ḥaṯ וְנֹ֥גַֽהּ and brilliant light wə·nō·ḡah סָבִ֑יב all around sā·ḇîḇ ל֖וֹ it . lōw וּמִ֨תּוֹכָ֔הּ In the center ū·mit·tō·w·ḵāh הָאֵֽשׁ׃ of the fire hā·’êš כְּעֵ֥ין was a gleam kə·‘ên הַחַשְׁמַ֖ל like amber ha·ḥaš·mal מִתּ֥וֹךְ . . . , mit·tō·wḵ Ezekiel 1:5 וּמִ֨תּוֹכָ֔הּ and within it ū·mit·tō·w·ḵāh דְּמ֖וּת [was] the form də·mūṯ אַרְבַּ֣ע of four ’ar·ba‘ חַיּ֑וֹת living creatures . ḥay·yō·wṯ וְזֶה֙ And this [was] wə·zeh מַרְאֵֽיהֶ֔ן their appearance : mar·’ê·hen לָהֵֽנָּה׃ They had lā·hên·nāh אָדָ֖ם a human ’ā·ḏām דְּמ֥וּת form , də·mūṯ Ezekiel 1:6 לְאֶחָ֑ת but each lə·’e·ḥāṯ וְאַרְבָּעָ֥ה had four wə·’ar·bā·‘āh פָנִ֖ים faces p̄ā·nîm וְאַרְבַּ֥ע and four wə·’ar·ba‘ כְּנָפַ֖יִם wings kə·nā·p̄a·yim לְאַחַ֥ת . . . . lə·’a·ḥaṯ לָהֶֽם׃ lā·hem Ezekiel 1:7 וְרַגְלֵיהֶ֖ם Their legs wə·raḡ·lê·hem יְשָׁרָ֑ה were straight , yə·šā·rāh וְכַ֣ף and the soles wə·ḵap̄ רֶ֣גֶל of their feet re·ḡel כְּכַף֙ were like the hooves kə·ḵap̄ רֶ֣גֶל . . . re·ḡel רַגְלֵיהֶ֗ם . . . raḡ·lê·hem עֵ֔גֶל of a calf , ‘ê·ḡel וְנֹ֣צְצִ֔ים gleaming wə·nō·ṣə·ṣîm כְּעֵ֖ין like kə·‘ên קָלָֽל׃ polished qā·lāl נְחֹ֥שֶׁת bronze . nə·ḥō·šeṯ
