הַיָּשָׁ֥ר right hay·yā·šār בְּעֵינָ֖יו in his own eyes . bə·‘ê·nāw Ruth 1:1 בִּימֵי֙ In the days bî·mê הַשֹּׁפְטִ֔ים when the judges haš·šō·p̄ə·ṭîm שְׁפֹ֣ט ruled , šə·p̄ōṭ וַיְהִ֥י . . . way·hî וַיְהִ֗י there was way·hî רָעָ֖ב a famine rā·‘āḇ בָּאָ֑רֶץ in the land . bā·’ā·reṣ אִ֜ישׁ And a certain man ’îš מִבֵּ֧ית from mib·bêṯ לֶ֣חֶם Bethlehem le·ḥem יְהוּדָ֗ה in Judah , yə·hū·ḏāh וְאִשְׁתּ֖וֹ with his wife wə·’iš·tōw וּשְׁנֵ֥י and two ū·šə·nê בָנָֽיו׃ sons , ḇā·nāw וַיֵּ֨לֶךְ went way·yê·leḵ לָגוּר֙ to reside lā·ḡūr בִּשְׂדֵ֣י in the land biś·ḏê מוֹאָ֔ב of Moab . mō·w·’āḇ ה֥וּא - hū Ruth 1:2 הָאִ֣ישׁ The man’s hā·’îš וְשֵׁ֣ם name wə·šêm אֱ was Elimelech , ’ĕlî·me·leḵ אִשְׁתּ֨וֹ his wife’s ’iš·tōw וְשֵׁם֩ name wə·šêm נָעֳמִ֜י was Naomi , nā·‘o·mî וְשֵׁ֥ם and the names wə·šêm שְׁנֵֽי־ of his two šə·nê- בָנָ֣יו׀ sons ḇā·nāw מַחְל֤וֹן were Mahlon maḥ·lō·wn וְכִלְיוֹן֙ and Chilion . wə·ḵil·yō·wn אֶפְרָתִ֔ים They were Ephrathites ’ep̄·rā·ṯîm מִבֵּ֥ית from mib·bêṯ לֶ֖חֶם Bethlehem le·ḥem יְהוּדָ֑ה in Judah , yə·hū·ḏāh וַיָּבֹ֥אוּ and they entered way·yā·ḇō·’ū שְׂדֵי־ the land śə·ḏê- מוֹאָ֖ב of Moab mō·w·’āḇ וַיִּֽהְיוּ־ and settled way·yih·yū- שָֽׁם׃ there . šām Ruth 1:3 נָעֳמִ֑י Then Naomi’s nā·‘o·mî אִ֣ישׁ husband ’îš אֱלִימֶ֖לֶךְ Elimelech ’ĕ·lî·me·leḵ וַיָּ֥מָת died , way·yā·māṯ הִ֖יא and she hî וַתִּשָּׁאֵ֥ר was left wat·tiš·šā·’êr וּשְׁנֵ֥י with her two ū·šə·nê בָנֶֽיהָ׃ sons , ḇā·ne·hā Ruth 1:4 וַיִּשְׂא֣וּ who took way·yiś·’ū לָהֶ֗ם - lā·hem מֹֽאֲבִיּ֔וֹת Moabite mō·’ă·ḇî·yō·wṯ נָשִׁים֙ women as their wives , nā·šîm הָֽאַחַת֙ one hā·’a·ḥaṯ שֵׁ֤ם named šêm עָרְפָּ֔ה Orpah ‘ā·rə·pāh הַשֵּׁנִ֖ית and the other haš·šê·nîṯ וְשֵׁ֥ם named wə·šêm ר֑וּת Ruth . rūṯ וַיֵּ֥שְׁבוּ And after they had lived way·yê·šə·ḇū שָׁ֖ם in Moab šām כְּעֶ֥שֶׂר about ten kə·‘e·śer שָׁנִֽים׃ years , šā·nîm Ruth 1:5 שְׁנֵיהֶ֖ם both šə·nê·hem מַחְל֣וֹן Mahlon maḥ·lō·wn וְכִלְי֑וֹן and Chilion wə·ḵil·yō·wn גַם־ also ḡam- וַיָּמ֥וּתוּ died , way·yā·mū·ṯū הָֽאִשָּׁ֔ה and Naomi hā·’iš·šāh וַתִּשָּׁאֵר֙ was left wat·tiš·šā·’êr מִשְּׁנֵ֥י without her two miš·šə·nê יְלָדֶ֖יהָ sons yə·lā·ḏe·hā וּמֵאִישָֽׁהּ׃ and without her husband . ū·mê·’î·šāh Ruth 1:6 כִּ֤י When kî שָֽׁמְעָה֙ [Naomi] heard šā·mə·‘āh בִּשְׂדֵ֣ה . . . biś·ḏêh מוֹאָ֔ב in Moab mō·w·’āḇ כִּֽי־ that kî- יְהוָה֙ YHWH Yah·weh פָקַ֤ד had attended to p̄ā·qaḏ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- עַמּ֔וֹ His people ‘am·mōw
