לְהִֽשְׁתַּחֲוֺ֧ת to worship lə·hiš·ta·ḥă·wōṯ וְלִזְבֹּ֛חַ and sacrifice wə·liz·bō·aḥ לַיהוָ֥ה to YHWH Yah·weh צְבָא֖וֹת of Hosts ṣə·ḇā·’ō·wṯ בְּשִׁלֹ֑ה at Shiloh , bə·ši·lōh וְשָׁ֞ם where wə·šām עֵלִ֗י Eli’s ‘ê·lî שְׁנֵ֣י two šə·nê בְנֵֽי־ sons , ḇə·nê- חָפְנִי֙ Hophni ḥā·p̄ə·nî וּפִ֣נְחָ֔ס and Phinehas , ū·p̄in·ḥās כֹּהֲנִ֖ים were priests kō·hă·nîm לַיהוָֽה׃ to YHWH . Yah·weh 1 Samuel 1:4 הַיּ֔וֹם And whenever the day hay·yō·wm וַיְהִ֣י came way·hî אֶלְקָנָ֑ה for Elkanah ’el·qā·nāh וַיִּזְבַּ֖ח to present his sacrifice , way·yiz·baḥ וְנָתַ֞ן he would give wə·nā·ṯan מָנֽוֹת׃ portions mā·nō·wṯ אִשְׁתּ֗וֹ to his wife ’iš·tōw לִפְנִנָּ֣ה Peninnah lip̄·nin·nāh וּֽלְכָל־ and to all ū·lə·ḵāl- בָּנֶ֛יהָ her sons bā·ne·hā וּבְנוֹתֶ֖יהָ and daughters . ū·ḇə·nō·w·ṯe·hā 1 Samuel 1:5 וּלְחַנָּ֕ה But to Hannah ū·lə·ḥan·nāh יִתֵּ֛ן he would give yit·tên אַחַ֖ת a ’a·ḥaṯ אַפָּ֑יִם double ’ap·pā·yim מָנָ֥ה portion , mā·nāh כִּ֤י for kî אֶת־ - ’eṯ- אָהֵ֔ב he loved ’ā·hêḇ חַנָּה֙ her ḥan·nāh וַֽיהוָ֖ה even though YHWH Yah·weh סָגַ֥ר had closed sā·ḡar רַחְמָֽהּ׃ her womb . raḥ·māh 1 Samuel 1:6 כִּֽי־ Because kî- יְהוָ֖ה YHWH Yah·weh סָגַ֥ר had closed sā·ḡar בְּעַ֥ד vvv bə·‘aḏ רַחְמָֽהּ׃ [Hannah’s] womb , raḥ·māh צָֽרָתָהּ֙ her rival ṣā·rā·ṯāh גַּם־ . . . gam- בַּעֲב֖וּר - ba·‘ă·ḇūr הַרְּעִמָ֑הּ would provoke her har·rə·‘i·māh וְכִֽעֲסַ֤תָּה and taunt her wə·ḵi·‘ă·sat·tāh כַּ֔עַס viciously . ka·‘as 1 Samuel 1:7 וְכֵ֨ן And this went on wə·ḵên יַעֲשֶׂ֜ה . . . ya·‘ă·śeh שָׁנָ֣ה year šā·nāh בְשָׁנָ֗ה after year . ḇə·šā·nāh מִדֵּ֤י Whenever mid·dê עֲלֹתָהּ֙ [Hannah] went up ‘ă·lō·ṯāh בְּבֵ֣ית to the house bə·ḇêṯ יְהוָ֔ה of YHWH Yah·weh כֵּ֖ן - , kên תַּכְעִסֶ֑נָּה [her rival] taunted her taḵ·‘i·sen·nāh וַתִּבְכֶּ֖ה until she wept wat·tiḇ·keh וְלֹ֥א and would not wə·lō תֹאכַֽל׃ eat . ṯō·ḵal 1 Samuel 1:8 חַנָּה֙ “ Hannah , ḥan·nāh לָ֣מֶה why lā·meh תִבְכִּ֗י are you crying ? ” ṯiḇ·kî אִישָׁ֗הּ her husband ’î·šāh אֶלְקָנָ֣ה Elkanah ’el·qā·nāh וַיֹּ֨אמֶר asked way·yō·mer לָ֜הּ . lāh וְלָ֙מֶה֙ “ Why wə·lā·meh לֹ֣א won’t you lō תֹֽאכְלִ֔י eat ? ṯō·ḵə·lî וְלָ֖מֶה Why wə·lā·meh לְבָבֵ֑ךְ is your heart lə·ḇā·ḇêḵ יֵרַ֣ע so grieved ? yê·ra‘ אָֽנֹכִי֙ Am I ’ā·nō·ḵî הֲל֤וֹא not hă·lō·w ט֣וֹב better ṭō·wḇ לָ֔ךְ to you lāḵ מֵעֲשָׂרָ֖ה than ten mê·‘ă·śā·rāh בָּנִֽים׃ sons ? ” bā·nîm 1 Samuel 1:9 אַחֲרֵ֛י So after ’a·ḥă·rê אָכְלָ֥ה they had finished eating ’ā·ḵə·lāh שָׁתֹ֑ה and drinking šā·ṯōh
