יוֹרִדֵ֖נִי can bring me down yō·w·ri·ḏê·nî אָֽרֶץ׃ to the ground ? ’ ’ā·reṣ Obadiah 1:4 אִם־ Though ’im- תַּגְבִּ֣יהַּ you soar taḡ·bî·ah כַּנֶּ֔שֶׁר like the eagle kan·ne·šer וְאִם־ . . . wə·’im- שִׂ֣ים and make śîm קִנֶּ֑ךָ your nest qin·ne·ḵā בֵּ֥ין among bên כּֽוֹכָבִ֖ים the stars , kō·w·ḵā·ḇîm מִשָּׁ֥ם even from there miš·šām אוֹרִֽידְךָ֖ I will bring you down , ” ’ō·w·rî·ḏə·ḵā נְאֻם־ declares nə·’um- יְהוָֽה׃ YHWH . Yah·weh Obadiah 1:5 אִם־ “ If ’im- גַּנָּבִ֤ים thieves gan·nā·ḇîm בָּאֽוּ־ came bā·’ū- לְךָ֙ to you , lə·ḵā אִם־ if ’im- שׁ֣וֹדְדֵי robbers šō·wḏ·ḏê לַ֔יְלָה by night — lay·lāh אֵ֣יךְ oh, how ’êḵ נִדְמֵ֔יתָה you will be ruined — niḏ·mê·ṯāh הֲל֥וֹא would they not hă·lō·w יִגְנְב֖וּ steal yiḡ·nə·ḇū דַּיָּ֑ם [only] what they wanted ? day·yām אִם־ If ’im- בֹּֽצְרִים֙ grape gatherers bō·ṣə·rîm בָּ֣אוּ came bā·’ū לָ֔ךְ to you , lāḵ הֲל֖וֹא would they not hă·lō·w יַשְׁאִ֥ירוּ leave yaš·’î·rū עֹלֵלֽוֹת׃ [some] gleanings ? ‘ō·lê·lō·wṯ Obadiah 1:6 אֵ֚יךְ But how ’êḵ עֵשָׂ֔ו Esau ‘ê·śāw נֶחְפְּשׂ֣וּ will be pillaged , neḥ·pə·śū מַצְפֻּנָֽיו׃ his hidden treasures maṣ·pu·nāw נִבְע֖וּ sought out ! niḇ·‘ū Obadiah 1:7 כֹּ֚ל All kōl אַנְשֵׁ֣י the men ’an·šê בְרִיתֶ֔ךָ allied with you ḇə·rî·ṯe·ḵā שִׁלְּח֗וּךָ will drive šil·lə·ḥū·ḵā עַֽד־ you to ‘aḏ- הַגְּב֣וּל the border ; hag·gə·ḇūl אַנְשֵׁ֣י the men ’an·šê שְׁלֹמֶ֑ךָ at peace with you šə·lō·me·ḵā הִשִּׁיא֛וּךָ will deceive hiš·šî·’ū·ḵā יָכְל֥וּ and overpower yā·ḵə·lū לְךָ֖ you . lə·ḵā לַחְמְךָ֗ [Those who eat] your bread laḥ·mə·ḵā יָשִׂ֤ימוּ will set yā·śî·mū מָזוֹר֙ a trap mā·zō·wr תַּחְתֶּ֔יךָ for you taḥ·te·ḵā אֵ֥ין without your ’ên תְּבוּנָ֖ה awareness tə·ḇū·nāh בּֽוֹ׃ of it . bōw Obadiah 1:8 הַה֖וּא In that ha·hū בַּיּ֥וֹם day , bay·yō·wm נְאֻם־ declares nə·’um יְהוָ֑ה YHWH , Yah·weh הֲל֛וֹא will I not hă·lō·w וְהַאֲבַדְתִּ֤י destroy wə·ha·’ă·ḇaḏ·tî חֲכָמִים֙ the wise [men] ḥă·ḵā·mîm מֵֽאֱד֔וֹם of Edom mê·’ĕ·ḏō·wm וּתְבוּנָ֖ה and the men of understanding ū·ṯə·ḇū·nāh מֵהַ֥ר in the mountains mê·har עֵשָֽׂו׃ of Esau ? ‘ê·śāw Obadiah 1:9 גִבּוֹרֶ֖יךָ Then your mighty men , ḡib·bō·w·re·ḵā תֵּימָ֑ן O Teman , tê·mān וְחַתּ֥וּ will be terrified , wə·ḥat·tū לְמַ֧עַן so that lə·ma·‘an אִ֛ישׁ everyone ’îš מֵהַ֥ר in the mountains mê·har עֵשָׂ֖ו of Esau ‘ê·śāw יִכָּֽרֶת־ will be cut down yik·kā·reṯ- מִקָּֽטֶל׃ in the slaughter . miq·qā·ṭel Obadiah 1:10 מֵחֲמַ֛ס Because of the violence mê·ḥă·mas אָחִ֥יךָ against your brother ’ā·ḥî·ḵā יַעֲקֹ֖ב Jacob , ya·‘ă·qōḇ
