כִּֽי־ but kî- נַפְשִׁ֖י my life nap̄·šî בִּֽי׃ . . . bî כָל־ still ḵāl ע֥וֹד lingers .’ ‘ō·wḏ 2 Samuel 1:10 וָאֶעֱמֹ֤ד So I stood wā·’e·‘ĕ·mōḏ עָלָיו֙ over him ‘ā·lāw וַאֲמֹ֣תְתֵ֔הוּ and killed him , wa·’ă·mō·ṯə·ṯê·hū כִּ֣י because kî יָדַ֔עְתִּי I knew yā·ḏa‘·tî כִּ֛י that kî אַחֲרֵ֣י after ’a·ḥă·rê נִפְל֑וֹ he had fallen nip̄·lōw לֹ֥א he could not lō יִֽחְיֶ֖ה survive . yiḥ·yeh וָאֶקַּ֞ח And I took wā·’eq·qaḥ הַנֵּ֣זֶר׀ the crown han·nê·zer אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ’ă·šer עַל־ was on ‘al- רֹאשׁ֗וֹ his head rō·šōw וְאֶצְעָדָה֙ and the band wə·’eṣ·‘ā·ḏāh אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ’ă·šer עַל־ was on ‘al- זְרֹע֔וֹ his arm , zə·rō·‘ōw וָאֲבִיאֵ֥ם and I have brought them wā·’ă·ḇî·’êm הֵֽנָּה׃ here hên·nāh אֶל־ to ’el- אֲדֹנִ֖י my lord . ” ’ă·ḏō·nî 2 Samuel 1:11 דָּוִ֛ד Then David dā·wiḏ וַיַּחֲזֵ֥ק took hold way·ya·ḥă·zêq בִּבְגָדוֹ of his own clothes biḇ·ḡå̄·ḏō וַיִּקְרָעֵ֑ם and tore them , way·yiq·rā·‘êm כָּל־ and all kāl- הָאֲנָשִׁ֖ים the men hā·’ă·nā·šîm אֲשֶׁ֥ר who [were] ’ă·šer אִתּֽוֹ׃ with him ’it·tōw וְגַ֥ם did the same . wə·ḡam 2 Samuel 1:12 וַֽיִּסְפְּדוּ֙ They mourned way·yis·pə·ḏū וַיִּבְכּ֔וּ and wept way·yiḇ·kū וַיָּצֻ֖מוּ and fasted way·yā·ṣu·mū עַד־ until ‘aḏ- הָעָ֑רֶב evening hā·‘ā·reḇ עַל־ for ‘al- שָׁא֞וּל Saul šā·’ūl וְעַל־ and wə·‘al- בְּנ֗וֹ his son bə·nōw וְעַל־ . . . wə·‘al- יְהוֹנָתָ֣ן Jonathan , yə·hō·w·nā·ṯān עַ֤ם and for the people ‘am יְהוָה֙ of YHWH Yah·weh וְעַל־ . . . wə·‘al- בֵּ֣ית and the house bêṯ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel , yiś·rā·’êl כִּ֥י because kî נָפְל֖וּ they had fallen nā·p̄ə·lū בֶּחָֽרֶב׃ס by the sword . be·ḥā·reḇ 2 Samuel 1:13 דָּוִ֗ד And David dā·wiḏ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר inquired way·yō·mer אֶל־ of ’el- הַנַּ֙עַר֙ the young man han·na·‘ar הַמַּגִּ֣יד who had brought him the report ham·mag·gîḏ ל֔וֹ . . . , lōw אֵ֥י “ Where ’ê מִזֶּ֖ה . . . miz·zeh אָ֑תָּה are you from ? ” ’āt·tāh בֶּן־ “ I am the son ben- אִ֛ישׁ . . . ’îš גֵּ֥ר of a foreigner , ” gêr וַיֹּ֕אמֶר he answered . way·yō·mer אָנֹֽכִי׃ “ I am ’ā·nō·ḵî עֲמָלֵקִ֖י an Amalekite . ” ‘ă·mā·lê·qî 2 Samuel 1:14 דָּוִ֑ד So David dā·wiḏ וַיֹּ֥אמֶר asked way·yō·mer אֵלָ֖יו him , ’ê·lāw אֵ֚יךְ “ Why ’êḵ לֹ֣א were you not lō יָרֵ֔אתָ afraid yā·rê·ṯā לִשְׁלֹ֙חַ֙ to lift liš·lō·aḥ יָֽדְךָ֔ your hand yā·ḏə·ḵā לְשַׁחֵ֖ת to destroy lə·ša·ḥêṯ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- יְהוָֽה׃ YHWH’s Yah·weh מְשִׁ֥יחַ anointed ? ” mə·šî·aḥ
