Joel 1:1 דְּבַר־ [This is] the word də·ḇar- יְהוָה֙ of YHWH Yah·weh אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ’ă·šer הָיָ֔ה came hā·yāh אֶל־ to ’el- יוֹאֵ֖ל Joel yō·w·’êl בֶּן־ son ben- פְּתוּאֵֽל׃ of Pethuel : pə·ṯū·’êl Joel 1:2 שִׁמְעוּ־ Hear šim·‘ū- זֹאת֙ this , zōṯ הַזְּקֵנִ֔ים O elders ; haz·zə·qê·nîm וְהַֽאֲזִ֔ינוּ and give ear , wə·ha·’ă·zî·nū כֹּ֖ל all kōl יוֹשְׁבֵ֣י who dwell yō·wō·šə·ḇê הָאָ֑רֶץ in the land . hā·’ā·reṣ זֹּאת֙ Has anything like this zōṯ הֶהָ֤יְתָה ever happened he·hā·yə·ṯāh בִּֽימֵיכֶ֔ם in your days bî·mê·ḵem וְאִ֖ם or wə·’im בִּימֵ֥י in the days bî·mê אֲבֹֽתֵיכֶֽם׃ of your fathers ? ’ă·ḇō·ṯê·ḵem Joel 1:3 סַפֵּ֑רוּ Tell sap·pê·rū עָלֶ֖יהָ it ‘ā·le·hā לִבְנֵיכֶ֣ם to your children ; liḇ·nê·ḵem וּבְנֵיכֶם֙ let your children ū·ḇə·nê·ḵem לִבְנֵיהֶ֔ם tell it to their children , liḇ·nê·hem וּבְנֵיהֶ֖ם and their children ū·ḇə·nê·hem אַחֵֽר׃ to the next ’a·ḥêr לְד֥וֹר generation . lə·ḏō·wr Joel 1:4 הַגָּזָם֙ What the devouring locust hag·gā·zām יֶ֤תֶר has left , ye·ṯer הָֽאַרְבֶּ֔ה the swarming locust hā·’ar·beh אָכַ֣ל has eaten ; ’ā·ḵal הָאַרְבֶּ֖ה what the swarming locust hā·’ar·beh וְיֶ֥תֶר has left , wə·ye·ṯer הַיָּ֑לֶק the young locust hay·yā·leq אָכַ֣ל has eaten ; ’ā·ḵal הַיֶּ֔לֶק and what the young locust hay·ye·leq וְיֶ֣תֶר has left , wə·ye·ṯer הֶחָסִֽיל׃ the destroying locust he·ḥā·sîl אָכַ֖ל has eaten . ’ā·ḵal Joel 1:5 הָקִ֤יצוּ Wake up , hā·qî·ṣū שִׁכּוֹרִים֙ you drunkards , šik·kō·w·rîm וּבְכ֔וּ and weep ; ū·ḇə·ḵū וְהֵילִ֖לוּ wail , wə·hê·li·lū כָּל־ all kāl- שֹׁ֣תֵי you drinkers šō·ṯê יָ֑יִן of wine , yā·yin עַל־ because of ‘al- עָסִ֕יס the sweet wine , ‘ā·sîs כִּ֥י for kî נִכְרַ֖ת it has been cut off niḵ·raṯ מִפִּיכֶֽם׃ from your mouth . mip·pî·ḵem Joel 1:6 כִּֽי־ For kî- גוֹי֙ a nation ḡō·w עָלָ֣ה has invaded ‘ā·lāh עַל־ . . . ‘al- אַרְצִ֔י My land , ’ar·ṣî עָצ֖וּם powerful ‘ā·ṣūm וְאֵ֣ין and without wə·’ên מִסְפָּ֑ר number ; mis·pār שִׁנָּיו֙ its teeth šin·nāw שִׁנֵּ֣י [are] the teeth šin·nê אַרְיֵ֔ה of a lion , ’ar·yêh וּֽמְתַלְּע֥וֹת and its fangs [are the fangs] ū·mə·ṯal·lə·‘ō·wṯ לָבִ֖יא of a lioness lā·ḇî לֽוֹ׃ . lōw Joel 1:7 שָׂ֤ם It has laid śām לְשַׁמָּ֔ה waste lə·šam·māh גַּפְנִי֙ My grapevine gap̄·nî לִקְצָפָ֑ה and splintered liq·ṣā·p̄āh וּתְאֵנָתִ֖י My fig tree . ū·ṯə·’ê·nā·ṯî חָשֹׂ֤ף It has stripped off the bark ḥā·śōp̄ חֲשָׂפָהּ֙ - ḥă·śā·p̄āh וְהִשְׁלִ֔יךְ and thrown it away ; wə·hiš·lîḵ שָׂרִיגֶֽיהָ׃ the branches śā·rî·ḡe·hā הִלְבִּ֖ינוּ have turned white . hil·bî·nū
