בְשִׁלֹ֖ה in Shiloh , ḇə·ši·lōh חַנָּ֔ה Hannah ḥan·nāh וַתָּ֣קָם stood up wat·tā·qām וְאַחֲרֵ֣י . . . . wə·’a·ḥă·rê וְעֵלִ֣י Now Eli wə·‘ê·lî הַכֹּהֵ֗ן the priest hak·kō·hên יֹשֵׁב֙ was sitting yō·šêḇ עַל־ on ‘al- הַכִּסֵּ֔א a chair hak·kis·sê עַל־ by ‘al- מְזוּזַ֖ת the doorpost mə·zū·zaṯ הֵיכַ֥ל of the temple hê·ḵal יְהוָֽה׃ of YHWH . Yah·weh 1 Samuel 1:10 וְהִ֖יא - wə·hî מָ֣רַת In her bitter distress mā·raṯ נָ֑פֶשׁ . . . , nā·p̄eš וַתִּתְפַּלֵּ֥ל Hannah prayed wat·tiṯ·pal·lêl עַל־ to ‘al- יְהוָ֖ה YHWH Yah·weh וּבָכֹ֥ה and wept ū·ḇā·ḵōh תִבְכֶּֽה׃ with many tears . ṯiḇ·keh 1 Samuel 1:11 וַתִּדֹּ֨ר And she made wat·tid·dōr נֶ֜דֶר a vow , ne·ḏer וַתֹּאמַ֗ר pleading , wat·tō·mar יְהוָ֨ה “ O YHWH Yah·weh צְבָא֜וֹת of Hosts , ṣə·ḇā·’ō·wṯ אִם־ if ’im- רָאֹ֥ה only rā·’ōh תִרְאֶ֣ה׀ You will look ṯir·’eh בָּעֳנִ֣י upon the affliction bā·‘o·nî אֲמָתֶ֗ךָ of Your maidservant ’ă·mā·ṯe·ḵā וּזְכַרְתַּ֙נִי֙ and remember me , ū·zə·ḵar·ta·nî וְלֹֽא־ not wə·lō- תִשְׁכַּ֣ח forgetting [Your maidservant] ṯiš·kaḥ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- וְנָתַתָּ֥ה but giving wə·nā·ṯat·tāh לַאֲמָתְךָ֖ . . . la·’ă·mā·ṯə·ḵā אֲמָתֶ֔ךָ [her] ’ă·mā·ṯe·ḵā זֶ֣רַע a son ze·ra‘ אֲנָשִׁ֑ים . . . , ’ă·nā·šîm וּנְתַתִּ֤יו then I will dedicate him ū·nə·ṯat·tîw לַֽיהוָה֙ to YHWH Yah·weh כָּל־ all kāl- יְמֵ֣י the days yə·mê חַיָּ֔יו of his life , ḥay·yāw לֹא־ and no lō- וּמוֹרָ֖ה razor ū·mō·w·rāh יַעֲלֶ֥ה shall ever come ya·‘ă·leh עַל־ over ‘al- רֹאשֽׁוֹ׃ his head . ” rō·šōw 1 Samuel 1:12 וְהָיָה֙ - wə·hā·yāh כִּ֣י As kî הִרְבְּתָ֔ה [Hannah] kept on hir·bə·ṯāh לְהִתְפַּלֵּ֖ל praying lə·hiṯ·pal·lêl לִפְנֵ֣י before lip̄·nê יְהוָ֑ה YHWH , Yah·weh וְעֵלִ֖י Eli wə·‘ê·lî שֹׁמֵ֥ר watched šō·mêr אֶת־ - ’eṯ- פִּֽיהָ׃ her mouth . pî·hā 1 Samuel 1:13 וְחַנָּ֗ה Hannah wə·ḥan·nāh הִ֚יא . . . hî מְדַבֶּ֣רֶת was praying mə·ḏab·be·reṯ עַל־ in ‘al- לִבָּ֔הּ her heart , lib·bāh רַ֚ק and though raq שְׂפָתֶ֣יהָ her lips śə·p̄ā·ṯe·hā נָּע֔וֹת were moving , nā·‘ō·wṯ וְקוֹלָ֖הּ her voice wə·qō·w·lāh לֹ֣א could not lō יִשָּׁמֵ֑עַ be heard . yiš·šā·mê·a‘ עֵלִ֖י So Eli ‘ê·lî וַיַּחְשְׁבֶ֥הָ thought way·yaḥ·šə·ḇe·hā לְשִׁכֹּרָֽה׃ she was drunk lə·šik·kō·rāh 1 Samuel 1:14 וַיֹּ֤אמֶר and said way·yō·mer אֵלֶ֙יהָ֙ to her ’ê·le·hā עֵלִ֔י . . . , ‘ê·lî עַד־ “ How ‘aḏ- מָתַ֖י long mā·ṯay תִּשְׁתַּכָּרִ֑ין will you be drunk ? tiš·tak·kā·rîn הָסִ֥ירִי Put away hā·sî·rî אֶת־ - ’eṯ- יֵינֵ֖ךְ your wine yê·nêḵ מֵעָלָֽיִךְ׃ . . . ! ” mê·‘ā·lā·yiḵ
