Lamentations 5:3 הָיִ֙ינוּ֙ We have become hā·yî·nū אֵין fatherless ʾēn אָ֔ב . . . ’āḇ יְתוֹמִ֤ים orphans ; yə·ṯō·w·mîm אִמֹּתֵ֖ינוּ our mothers ’im·mō·ṯê·nū כְּאַלְמָנֽוֹת׃ are widows . kə·’al·mā·nō·wṯ Lamentations 5:4 בְּכֶ֣סֶף We must buy bə·ḵe·sep̄ מֵימֵ֙ינוּ֙ the water mê·mê·nū שָׁתִ֔ינוּ we drink ; šā·ṯî·nū עֵצֵ֖ינוּ our wood ‘ê·ṣê·nū יָבֹֽאוּ׃ comes yā·ḇō·’ū בִּמְחִ֥יר at a price . bim·ḥîr Lamentations 5:5 עַ֤ל We are closely ‘al צַוָּארֵ֙נוּ֙ . . . ṣaw·wā·rê·nū נִרְדָּ֔פְנוּ pursued ; nir·dā·p̄ə·nū יָגַ֖עְנוּ we are weary yā·ḡa‘·nū לֹא [and find] no lō הֽוּנַ֖ח rest . hū·naḥ לָֽנוּ׃ lā·nū Lamentations 5:6 נָתַ֣נּוּ We submitted nā·ṯan·nū יָ֔ד . . . yāḏ מִצְרַ֙יִם֙ to Egypt miṣ·ra·yim אַשּׁ֖וּר [and] Assyria ’aš·šūr לִשְׂבֹּ֥עַֽ to get enough liś·bō·a‘ לָֽחֶם׃ bread . lā·ḥem Lamentations 5:7 אֲבֹתֵ֤ינוּ Our fathers ’ă·ḇō·ṯê·nū חָֽטְאוּ֙ sinned ḥā·ṭə·’ū אֵינָם [and are] no more , ʾē·nå̄m אֲנַחְנוּ but we ʾă·naḥ·nū סָבָֽלְנוּ׃ bear sā·ḇā·lə·nū עֲוֺנֹתֵיהֶ֥ם their punishment . ‘ă·wō·nō·ṯê·hem Lamentations 5:8 עֲבָדִים֙ Slaves ‘ă·ḇā·ḏîm מָ֣שְׁלוּ rule mā·šə·lū בָ֔נוּ over us ; ḇā·nū אֵ֥ין [there is] no one ’ên פֹּרֵ֖ק to deliver us pō·rêq מִיָּדָֽם׃ from their hands . mî·yā·ḏām Lamentations 5:9 נָבִ֣יא We get nā·ḇî לַחְמֵ֔נוּ our bread laḥ·mê·nū בְּנַפְשֵׁ֙נוּ֙ at the risk of our lives bə·nap̄·šê·nū מִפְּנֵ֖י because of mip·pə·nê חֶ֥רֶב the sword ḥe·reḇ הַמִּדְבָּֽר׃ in the wilderness . ham·miḏ·bār Lamentations 5:10 עוֹרֵ֙נוּ֙ Our skin ‘ō·w·rê·nū נִכְמָ֔רוּ is as hot niḵ·mā·rū כְּתַנּ֣וּר as an oven kə·ṯan·nūr מִפְּנֵ֖י with mip·pə·nê זַלְעֲפ֥וֹת fever zal·‘ă·p̄ō·wṯ רָעָֽב׃ from [our] hunger . rā·‘āḇ Lamentations 5:11 נָשִׁים֙ Women nā·šîm עִנּ֔וּ have been ravished ‘in·nū בְּצִיּ֣וֹן in Zion , bə·ṣî·yō·wn בְּתֻלֹ֖ת virgins bə·ṯu·lōṯ בְּעָרֵ֥י in the cities bə·‘ā·rê יְהוּדָֽה׃ of Judah . yə·hū·ḏāh Lamentations 5:12 שָׂרִים֙ Princes śā·rîm נִתְל֔וּ have been hung up niṯ·lū בְּיָדָ֣ם by their hands ; bə·yā·ḏām זְקֵנִ֖ים elders zə·qê·nîm לֹ֥א receive no lō פְּנֵ֥י respect pə·nê נֶהְדָּֽרוּ׃ . . . . neh·dā·rū Lamentations 5:13 בַּחוּרִים֙ Young men ba·ḥū·rîm נָשָׂ֔אוּ toil nā·śā·’ū טְח֣וֹן at millstones ; ṭə·ḥō·wn וּנְעָרִ֖ים boys ū·nə·‘ā·rîm כָּשָֽׁלוּ׃ stagger kā·šā·lū בָּעֵ֥ץ under loads of wood . bā·‘êṣ
