בַּנָּֽחַל׃ by the stream . ban·nā·ḥal Deuteronomy 21:5 הַכֹּהֲנִים֮ And the priests , hak·kō·hă·nîm בְּנֵ֣י the sons bə·nê לֵוִי֒ of Levi , lê·wî וְנִגְּשׁ֣וּ shall come forward , wə·nig·gə·šū כִּ֣י for kî בָ֗ם ḇām יְהוָ֤ה YHWH Yah·weh אֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙ your God ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā בָּחַ֞ר has chosen them bā·ḥar לְשָׁ֣רְת֔וֹ to serve Him lə·šā·rə·ṯōw וּלְבָרֵ֖ךְ and pronounce blessings ū·lə·ḇā·rêḵ יְהוָ֑ה in His Yah·weh בְּשֵׁ֣ם name bə·šêm וְעַל־ and to give a ruling wə·‘al- פִּיהֶ֥ם . . . pî·hem יִהְיֶ֖ה . . . yih·yeh כָּל־ in every kāl- רִ֥יב dispute rîḇ וְכָל־ . . . wə·ḵāl נָֽגַע׃ and case of assault . nā·ḡa‘ Deuteronomy 21:6 וְכֹ֗ל Then all wə·ḵōl זִקְנֵי֙ the elders ziq·nê הָעִ֣יר of the city hā·‘îr הַהִ֔וא . . . ha·hi·w הַקְּרֹבִ֖ים nearest haq·qə·rō·ḇîm אֶל־ - ’el- הֶחָלָ֑ל the victim he·ḥā·lāl יִרְחֲצוּ֙ shall wash yir·ḥă·ṣū אֶת־ - ’eṯ- יְדֵיהֶ֔ם their hands yə·ḏê·hem בַנָּֽחַל׃ by the stream ḇan·nā·ḥal עַל־ over ‘al- הָעֶגְלָ֖ה the heifer hā·‘eḡ·lāh הָעֲרוּפָ֥ה whose neck has been broken , hā·‘ă·rū·p̄āh Deuteronomy 21:7 וְעָנ֖וּ and they shall declare , wə·‘ā·nū וְאָמְר֑וּ . . . wə·’ā·mə·rū יָדֵ֗ינוּ “ Our hands yā·ḏê·nū לֹ֤א did not lō שָׁפְכָה shed šå̄·p̄ə·ḵå̄h אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הַזֶּ֔ה this haz·zeh הַדָּ֣ם blood , had·dām לֹ֥א nor did lō וְעֵינֵ֖ינוּ our eyes wə·‘ê·nê·nū רָאֽוּ׃ see it . rā·’ū Deuteronomy 21:8 כַּפֵּר֩ Accept this atonement , kap·pêr יְהוָ֔ה O YHWH , Yah·weh לְעַמְּךָ֨ for Your people lə·‘am·mə·ḵā יִשְׂרָאֵ֤ל Israel yiś·rā·’êl אֲשֶׁר־ whom ’ă·šer- פָּדִ֙יתָ֙ You have redeemed , pā·ḏî·ṯā וְאַל־ and do not wə·’al- תִּתֵּן֙ hold tit·tên נָקִ֔י the shedding of innocent nā·qî דָּ֣ם blood dām בְּקֶ֖רֶב against bə·qe·reḇ עַמְּךָ֣ them ‘am·mə·ḵā יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל . . . . ” yiś·rā·’êl לָהֶ֖ם . . . lā·hem הַדָּֽם׃ And the bloodshed had·dām וְנִכַּפֵּ֥ר will be atoned for . wə·nik·kap·pêr Deuteronomy 21:9 וְאַתָּ֗ה So you wə·’at·tāh תְּבַעֵ֛ר shall purge tə·ḇa·‘êr מִקִּרְבֶּ֑ךָ from among you miq·qir·be·ḵā הַנָּקִ֖י the guilt of shedding innocent han·nā·qî הַדָּ֥ם blood , had·dām כִּֽי־ since kî- תַעֲשֶׂ֥ה you have done ṯa·‘ă·śeh הַיָּשָׁ֖ר what is right hay·yā·šār בְּעֵינֵ֥י in the eyes bə·‘ê·nê יְהוָֽה׃ס of YHWH . Yah·weh Deuteronomy 21:10 כִּֽי־ When kî- תֵצֵ֥א you go ṯê·ṣê לַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה to war lam·mil·ḥā·māh עַל־ against ‘al- אֹיְבֶ֑יךָ your enemies ’ō·yə·ḇe·ḵā יְהוָ֧ה and YHWH Yah·weh אֱלֹהֶ֛יךָ your God ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā וּנְתָנ֞וֹ delivers them ū·nə·ṯā·nōw בְּיָדֶ֖ךָ into your hand bə·yā·ḏe·ḵā וְשָׁבִ֥יתָ and you take them wə·šā·ḇî·ṯā
