לָֽךְ׃ you . lāḵ Deuteronomy 20:15 כֵּ֤ן This is how kên תַּעֲשֶׂה֙ you are to treat ta·‘ă·śeh לְכָל־ all lə·ḵāl הֶ֣עָרִ֔ים the cities he·‘ā·rîm הָרְחֹקֹ֥ת that are far away hā·rə·ḥō·qōṯ מִמְּךָ֖ from you mim·mə·ḵā מְאֹ֑ד . . . mə·’ōḏ אֲשֶׁ֛ר - ’ă·šer לֹא־ and do not lō- מֵעָרֵ֥י - mê·‘ā·rê הָאֵ֖לֶּה belong to the hā·’êl·leh הֵֽנָּה׃ . . . hên·nāh הַגּֽוֹיִם־ nations nearby . hag·gō·w·yim- Deuteronomy 20:16 רַ֗ק However , raq מֵעָרֵ֤י in the cities mê·‘ā·rê הָאֵ֔לֶּה of the hā·’êl·leh הָֽעַמִּים֙ nations hā·‘am·mîm אֲשֶׁר֙ that ’ă·šer יְהוָ֣ה YHWH Yah·weh אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ your God ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā נֹתֵ֥ן is giving nō·ṯên לְךָ֖ you lə·ḵā נַחֲלָ֑ה as an inheritance , na·ḥă·lāh לֹ֥א vvv lō תְחַיֶּ֖ה you must not leave alive ṯə·ḥay·yeh כָּל־ anything kāl- נְשָׁמָֽה׃ that breathes . nə·šā·māh Deuteronomy 20:17 כִּֽי־ For kî- הַחֲרֵ֣ם you must devote them to complete destruction ha·ḥă·rêm תַּחֲרִימֵ֗ם . . . — ta·ḥă·rî·mêm הַחִתִּ֤י the Hittites , ha·ḥit·tî וְהָאֱמֹרִי֙ Amorites , wə·hā·’ĕ·mō·rî הַכְּנַעֲנִ֣י Canaanites , hak·kə·na·‘ă·nî וְהַפְּרִזִּ֔י Perizzites , wə·hap·pə·riz·zî הַחִוִּ֖י Hivites , ha·ḥiw·wî וְהַיְבוּסִ֑י and Jebusites — wə·hay·ḇū·sî כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר as ka·’ă·šer יְהוָ֥ה YHWH Yah·weh אֱלֹהֶֽיךָ׃ your God ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā צִוְּךָ֖ has commanded you , ṣiw·wə·ḵā Deuteronomy 20:18 לְמַ֗עַן so that lə·ma·‘an אֲשֶׁ֨ר - ’ă·šer לֹֽא־ they cannot lō- יְלַמְּד֤וּ teach yə·lam·mə·ḏū אֶתְכֶם֙ - ’eṯ·ḵem לַעֲשׂ֔וֹת you to do la·‘ă·śō·wṯ כְּכֹל֙ all kə·ḵōl תּֽוֹעֲבֹתָ֔ם the detestable things tō·w·‘ă·ḇō·ṯām אֲשֶׁ֥ר - ’ă·šer עָשׂ֖וּ they do ‘ā·śū לֵֽאלֹהֵיהֶ֑ם for their gods , lê·lō·hê·hem וַחֲטָאתֶ֖ם and so cause you to sin wa·ḥă·ṭā·ṯem לַיהוָ֥ה against YHWH Yah·weh אֱלֹהֵיכֶֽם׃ס your God . ’ĕ·lō·hê·ḵem Deuteronomy 20:19 כִּֽי־ When kî- תָצ֣וּר you lay siege ṯā·ṣūr אֶל־ to ’el- עִיר֩ a city ‘îr רַבִּ֜ים for an extended rab·bîm יָמִ֨ים time yā·mîm לְֽהִלָּחֵ֧ם while fighting lə·hil·lā·ḥêm עָלֶ֣יהָ against it ‘ā·le·hā לְתָפְשָׂ֗הּ to capture it , lə·ṯā·p̄ə·śāh לֹֽא־ you must not lō- תַשְׁחִ֤ית destroy ṯaš·ḥîṯ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- עֵצָהּ֙ its trees ‘ê·ṣāh לִנְדֹּ֤חַ by putting lin·dō·aḥ גַּרְזֶ֔ן an axe gar·zen עָלָיו֙ to them , ‘ā·lāw כִּ֚י because kî תֹאכֵ֔ל you can eat their fruit ṯō·ḵêl וְאֹת֖וֹ - wə·’ō·ṯōw מִמֶּ֣נּוּ - . mim·men·nū לֹ֣א You must not lō תִכְרֹ֑ת cut them down . ṯiḵ·rōṯ כִּ֤י . . . kî עֵ֣ץ Are the trees ‘êṣ הַשָּׂדֶ֔ה of the field haś·śā·ḏeh הָֽאָדָם֙ human , hā·’ā·ḏām לָבֹ֥א vvv lā·ḇō מִפָּנֶ֖יךָ vvv mip·pā·ne·ḵā בַּמָּצֽוֹר׃ that you should besiege them ? bam·mā·ṣō·wr
