וְיָשֹׁ֣ב . . . wə·yā·šōḇ לְבֵית֑וֹ home , lə·ḇê·ṯōw לְבַ֥ב so that the hearts lə·ḇaḇ אֶחָ֖יו of his brothers ’e·ḥāw וְלֹ֥א will not wə·lō יִמַּ֛ס melt yim·mas כִּלְבָבֽוֹ׃ like his own . ” kil·ḇā·ḇōw אֶת־ - ’eṯ- Deuteronomy 20:9 וְהָיָ֛ה - wə·hā·yāh הַשֹּׁטְרִ֖ים When the officers haš·šō·ṭə·rîm כְּכַלֹּ֥ת have finished kə·ḵal·lōṯ לְדַבֵּ֣ר addressing lə·ḏab·bêr אֶל־ . . . ’el- הָעָ֑ם the army , hā·‘ām וּפָֽקְד֛וּ they are to appoint ū·p̄ā·qə·ḏū צְבָא֖וֹת vvv ṣə·ḇā·’ō·wṯ שָׂרֵ֥י commanders śā·rê בְּרֹ֥אשׁ to lead it bə·rōš הָעָֽם׃ס . . . . hā·‘ām Deuteronomy 20:10 כִּֽי־ When kî- תִקְרַ֣ב you approach ṯiq·raḇ אֶל־ . . . ’el- עִ֔יר a city ‘îr לְהִלָּחֵ֖ם to fight lə·hil·lā·ḥêm עָלֶ֑יהָ against it , ‘ā·le·hā וְקָרָ֥אתָ you are to make an offer wə·qā·rā·ṯā אֵלֶ֖יהָ . . . ’ê·le·hā לְשָׁלֽוֹם׃ of peace . lə·šā·lō·wm Deuteronomy 20:11 וְהָיָה֙ wə·hā·yāh אִם־ If ’im- תַּֽעַנְךָ֔ they accept ta·‘an·ḵā שָׁל֣וֹם your offer of peace šā·lō·wm וּפָתְחָ֖ה and open [their gates] ū·p̄ā·ṯə·ḥāh לָ֑ךְ , lāḵ וְהָיָ֞ה - wə·hā·yāh כָּל־ all kāl- הָעָ֣ם the people hā·‘ām הַנִּמְצָא־ [there] han·nim·ṣā- בָ֗הּ ḇāh יִהְי֥וּ will become yih·yū לָמַ֖ס forced laborers lā·mas וַעֲבָדֽוּךָ׃ to serve wa·‘ă·ḇā·ḏū·ḵā לְךָ֛ you . lə·ḵā Deuteronomy 20:12 וְאִם־ But if wə·’im- לֹ֤א they refuse lō תַשְׁלִים֙ to make peace ṯaš·lîm עִמָּ֔ךְ with you ‘im·māḵ וְעָשְׂתָ֥ה and wage wə·‘ā·śə·ṯāh מִלְחָמָ֑ה war mil·ḥā·māh עִמְּךָ֖ against you , ‘im·mə·ḵā וְצַרְתָּ֖ lay siege wə·ṣar·tā עָלֶֽיהָּ׃ to [that city] . ʿå̄·lɛ·hå̄ Deuteronomy 20:13 יְהוָ֥ה When YHWH Yah·weh אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ your God ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā וּנְתָנָ֛הּ has delivered it ū·nə·ṯā·nāh בְּיָדֶ֑ךָ into your hand , bə·yā·ḏe·ḵā וְהִכִּיתָ֥ you must put wə·hik·kî·ṯā אֶת־ - ’eṯ- כָּל־ every kāl- זְכוּרָ֖הּ male zə·ḵū·rāh לְפִי־ vvv lə·p̄î- חָֽרֶב׃ to the sword . ḥā·reḇ Deuteronomy 20:14 רַ֣ק But raq הַ֠נָּשִׁים the women , han·nā·šîm וְהַטַּ֨ף children , wə·haṭ·ṭap̄ וְהַבְּהֵמָ֜ה livestock , wə·hab·bə·hê·māh וְכֹל֩ and whatever wə·ḵōl אֲשֶׁ֨ר - ’ă·šer יִהְיֶ֥ה else is yih·yeh בָעִ֛יר in the city — ḇā·‘îr כָּל־ all kāl- שְׁלָלָ֖הּ its spoil — šə·lā·lāh תָּבֹ֣ז you may take as plunder tā·ḇōz לָ֑ךְ , lāḵ וְאָֽכַלְתָּ֙ and you shall use wə·’ā·ḵal·tā אֶת־ - ’eṯ- שְׁלַ֣ל the spoil šə·lal אֹיְבֶ֔יךָ of your enemies ’ō·yə·ḇe·ḵā אֲשֶׁ֥ר that ’ă·šer יְהוָ֥ה YHWH Yah·weh אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ your God ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā נָתַ֛ן gives nā·ṯan
