Deuteronomy 20:20 רַ֞ק But raq תַשְׁחִ֖ית you may destroy ṯaš·ḥîṯ עֵ֣ץ the trees ‘êṣ אֲשֶׁר־ that ’ă·šer- תֵּדַ֗ע you know tê·ḏa‘ כִּֽי־ . . . kî- לֹא־ do not lō- עֵ֤ץ . . . ‘êṣ מַאֲכָל֙ produce fruit ma·’ă·ḵāl ה֔וּא . . . hū אֹת֥וֹ - . ’ō·ṯōw וְכָרָ֑תָּ [Use them] wə·ḵā·rā·tā וּבָנִ֣יתָ to build ū·ḇā·nî·ṯā מָצ֗וֹר siege works mā·ṣō·wr עַל־ against ‘al- הָעִיר֙ the city hā·‘îr אֲשֶׁר־ that ’ă·šer- הִ֨וא . . . hî עֹשָׂ֧ה is waging ‘ō·śāh מִלְחָמָ֖ה war mil·ḥā·māh עִמְּךָ֛ against you , ‘im·mə·ḵā עַ֥ד until ‘aḏ רִדְתָּֽהּ׃פ it falls . riḏ·tāh Deuteronomy 21:1 כִּי־ If kî- יִמָּצֵ֣א [one] is found yim·mā·ṣê חָלָ֗ל slain , ḥā·lāl נֹפֵ֖ל lying nō·p̄êl בַּשָּׂדֶ֑ה in a field baś·śā·ḏeh בָּאֲדָמָה֙ in the land bā·’ă·ḏā·māh אֲשֶׁר֩ that ’ă·šer יְהוָ֨ה YHWH Yah·weh אֱלֹהֶ֜יךָ your God ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā נֹתֵ֤ן is giving nō·ṯên לְךָ֙ you lə·ḵā לְרִשְׁתָּ֔הּ to possess , lə·riš·tāh לֹ֥א and it is not lō נוֹדַ֖ע known nō·w·ḏa‘ מִ֥י who mî הִכָּֽהוּ׃ killed him , hik·kā·hū Deuteronomy 21:2 זְקֵנֶ֖יךָ your elders zə·qê·ne·ḵā וְשֹׁפְטֶ֑יךָ and judges wə·šō·p̄ə·ṭe·ḵā וְיָצְא֥וּ must come out wə·yā·ṣə·’ū וּמָדְדוּ֙ and measure the distance ū·mā·ḏə·ḏū הֶחָלָֽל׃ from the victim he·ḥā·lāl אֶל־ to ’el- סְבִיבֹ֥ת the neighboring sə·ḇî·ḇōṯ הֶ֣עָרִ֔ים cities he·‘ā·rîm אֲשֶׁ֖ר - . ’ă·šer Deuteronomy 21:3 וְהָיָ֣ה Then wə·hā·yāh זִקְנֵי֩ the elders ziq·nê הָעִ֨יר . . . hā·‘îr הַהִ֜וא . . . ha·hi·w הָעִ֔יר of the city hā·‘îr הַקְּרֹבָ֖ה nearest haq·qə·rō·ḇāh אֶל־ - ’el- הֶחָלָ֑ל the victim he·ḥā·lāl וְלָֽקְח֡וּ shall take wə·lā·qə·ḥū עֶגְלַ֣ת a heifer ‘eḡ·laṯ בָּקָ֗ר . . . bā·qār אֲשֶׁ֤ר that ’ă·šer לֹֽא־ has never lō- בְּעֹֽל׃ been yoked bə·‘ōl עֻבַּד֙ or used for work ‘ub·baḏ בָּ֔הּ bāh אֲשֶׁ֥ר ’ă·šer לֹא־ lō- מָשְׁכָ֖ה , mā·šə·ḵāh Deuteronomy 21:4 וְהוֹרִ֡דוּ bring wə·hō·w·ri·ḏū זִקְנֵי֩ - ziq·nê הַהִ֤וא - ha·hi·w אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הָעִ֨יר - hā·‘îr הָֽעֶגְלָה֙ the heifer hā·‘eḡ·lāh אֶל־ to ’el- נַ֣חַל a valley na·ḥal אֵיתָ֔ן with running water ’ê·ṯān אֲשֶׁ֛ר that ’ă·šer לֹא־ has not lō- יֵעָבֵ֥ד been plowed yê·‘ā·ḇêḏ בּ֖וֹ bōw וְלֹ֣א - wə·lō יִזָּרֵ֑עַ or sown , yiz·zā·rê·a‘ הָעֶגְלָ֖ה and break its hā·‘eḡ·lāh וְעָֽרְפוּ־ neck wə·‘ā·rə·p̄ū- שָׁ֥ם there šām אֶת־ - ’eṯ-
