וְהִנֵּ֤ה and if wə·hin·nêh עֵֽד־ the witness ‘êḏ- שֶׁ֙קֶר֙ is proven to be a liar še·qer הָעֵ֔ד . . . hā·‘êḏ שֶׁ֖קֶר who has falsely še·qer עָנָ֥ה accused ‘ā·nāh בְאָחִֽיו׃ his brother , ḇə·’ā·ḥîw Deuteronomy 19:19 וַעֲשִׂ֣יתֶם you must do wa·‘ă·śî·ṯem ל֔וֹ to him lōw כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר as ka·’ă·šer זָמַ֖ם he intended zā·mam לַעֲשׂ֣וֹת to do la·‘ă·śō·wṯ לְאָחִ֑יו to his brother . lə·’ā·ḥîw וּבִֽעַרְתָּ֥ So you must purge ū·ḇi·‘ar·tā הָרָ֖ע the evil hā·rā‘ מִקִּרְבֶּֽךָ׃ from among you . miq·qir·be·ḵā Deuteronomy 19:20 וְהַנִּשְׁאָרִ֖ים Then the rest [of the people] wə·han·niš·’ā·rîm יִשְׁמְע֣וּ will hear yiš·mə·‘ū וְיִרָ֑אוּ and be afraid , wə·yi·rā·’ū וְלֹֽא־ and they will never wə·lō- יֹסִ֨פוּ again yō·si·p̄ū ע֗וֹד . . . ‘ō·wḏ לַעֲשׂ֜וֹת do la·‘ă·śō·wṯ כַּדָּבָ֥ר anything kad·dā·ḇār הַזֶּ֖ה so haz·zeh הָרָ֛ע evil hā·rā‘ בְּקִרְבֶּֽךָ׃ among you . bə·qir·be·ḵā Deuteronomy 19:21 וְלֹ֥א You must show no pity wə·lō תָח֖וֹס . . . ṯā·ḥō·ws עֵינֶ֑ךָ . . . : ‘ê·ne·ḵā נֶ֣פֶשׁ life ne·p̄eš בְּנֶ֗פֶשׁ for life , bə·ne·p̄eš עַ֤יִן eye ‘a·yin בְּעַ֙יִן֙ for eye , bə·‘a·yin שֵׁ֣ן tooth šên בְּשֵׁ֔ן for tooth , bə·šên יָ֥ד hand yāḏ בְּיָ֖ד for hand , bə·yāḏ רֶ֥גֶל [and] foot re·ḡel בְּרָֽגֶל׃ס for foot . bə·rā·ḡel Deuteronomy 20:1 כִּֽי־ When kî- תֵצֵ֨א you go out ṯê·ṣê לַמִּלְחָמָ֜ה to war lam·mil·ḥā·māh עַל־ against ‘al- אֹיְבֶ֗יךָ your enemies ’ō·yə·ḇe·ḵā וְֽרָאִ֜יתָ and see wə·rā·’î·ṯā ס֤וּס horses , sūs וָרֶ֙כֶב֙ chariots , wā·re·ḵeḇ עַ֚ם and an army ‘am רַ֣ב larger raḇ מִמְּךָ֔ than yours , mim·mə·ḵā לֹ֥א do not lō תִירָ֖א be afraid ṯî·rā מֵהֶ֑ם of them ; mê·hem כִּֽי־ for kî- יְהוָ֤ה YHWH Yah·weh אֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙ your God , ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā הַמַּֽעַלְךָ֖ who brought you ham·ma·‘al·ḵā מֵאֶ֥רֶץ out of the land mê·’e·reṣ מִצְרָֽיִם׃ of Egypt , miṣ·rā·yim עִמָּ֔ךְ is with you . ‘im·māḵ Deuteronomy 20:2 וְהָיָ֕ה When you are about to wə·hā·yāh כְּקָֽרָבְכֶ֖ם go kə·qā·rā·ḇə·ḵem אֶל־ into ’el- הַמִּלְחָמָ֑ה battle , ham·mil·ḥā·māh הַכֹּהֵ֖ן the priest hak·kō·hên וְנִגַּ֥שׁ is to come forward wə·nig·gaš וְדִבֶּ֥ר and address wə·ḏib·ber אֶל־ . . . ’el- הָעָֽם׃ the army , hā·‘ām Deuteronomy 20:3 וְאָמַ֤ר saying wə·’ā·mar אֲלֵהֶם֙ to them , ’ă·lê·hem שְׁמַ֣ע “ Hear , šə·ma‘ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל O Israel , yiś·rā·’êl הַיּ֛וֹם today hay·yō·wm אַתֶּ֨ם you ’at·tem קְרֵבִ֥ים are going qə·rê·ḇîm לַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה into battle lam·mil·ḥā·māh עַל־ with ‘al- אֹיְבֵיכֶ֑ם your enemies . ’ō·yə·ḇê·ḵem אַל־ Do not ’al- יֵרַ֣ךְ be fainthearted yê·raḵ
