עָרִ֖ים cities . ‘ā·rîm Deuteronomy 19:8 וְאִם־ And if wə·’im- יְהוָ֤ה YHWH Yah·weh אֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙ your God ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā אֶת־ - ’eṯ- יַרְחִ֞יב enlarges yar·ḥîḇ גְּבֻ֣לְךָ֔ your territory , gə·ḇul·ḵā כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר as ka·’ă·šer נִשְׁבַּ֖ע He swore niš·ba‘ לַאֲבֹתֶ֑יךָ to your fathers , la·’ă·ḇō·ṯe·ḵā וְנָ֤תַן and gives wə·nā·ṯan לְךָ֙ you lə·ḵā אֶת־ - ’eṯ- כָּל־ all kāl- הָאָ֔רֶץ the land hā·’ā·reṣ אֲשֶׁ֥ר - ’ă·šer דִּבֶּ֖ר He promised dib·ber לָתֵ֥ת . . . lā·ṯêṯ לַאֲבֹתֶֽיךָ׃ them , la·’ă·ḇō·ṯe·ḵā Deuteronomy 19:9 כִּֽי־ and if kî- תִשְׁמֹר֩ you carefully keep ṯiš·mōr אֶת־ - ’eṯ- לַעֲשֹׂתָ֗הּ - la·‘ă·śō·ṯāh אֲשֶׁ֨ר - ’ă·šer כָּל־ all kāl- הַזֹּ֜את these haz·zōṯ הַמִּצְוָ֨ה commandments ham·miṣ·wāh אָנֹכִ֣י I ’ā·nō·ḵî מְצַוְּךָ֮ am giving you mə·ṣaw·wə·ḵā הַיּוֹם֒ today , hay·yō·wm לְאַהֲבָ֞ה loving lə·’a·hă·ḇāh אֶת־ - ’eṯ- יְהוָ֧ה YHWH Yah·weh אֱלֹהֶ֛יךָ your God ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā וְלָלֶ֥כֶת and walking wə·lā·le·ḵeṯ בִּדְרָכָ֖יו in His ways biḏ·rā·ḵāw כָּל־ at all times kāl- הַיָּמִ֑ים . . . , hay·yā·mîm וְיָסַפְתָּ֨ then you are to add wə·yā·sap̄·tā לְךָ֥ lə·ḵā שָׁלֹ֣שׁ three šā·lōš עוֹד֙ more ‘ō·wḏ עָרִ֔ים cities ‘ā·rîm עַ֖ל to ‘al הָאֵֽלֶּה׃ these hā·’êl·leh הַשָּׁלֹ֥שׁ three . haš·šā·lōš Deuteronomy 19:10 נָקִ֔י Thus innocent nā·qî דָּ֣ם blood dām וְלֹ֤א will not wə·lō יִשָּׁפֵךְ֙ be shed yiš·šā·p̄êḵ בְּקֶ֣רֶב in bə·qe·reḇ אַרְצְךָ֔ the land ’ar·ṣə·ḵā אֲשֶׁר֙ that ’ă·šer יְהוָ֣ה YHWH Yah·weh אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ your God ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā נֹתֵ֥ן is giving nō·ṯên לְךָ֖ you lə·ḵā נַחֲלָ֑ה [as] an inheritance , na·ḥă·lāh וְהָיָ֥ה so that you will not be wə·hā·yāh עָלֶ֖יךָ . . . ‘ā·le·ḵā דָּמִֽים׃ס guilty of bloodshed . dā·mîm Deuteronomy 19:11 וְכִֽי־ If, however , wə·ḵî- יִהְיֶ֥ה . . . yih·yeh אִישׁ֙ a man ’îš שֹׂנֵ֣א hates śō·nê לְרֵעֵ֔הוּ his neighbor lə·rê·‘ê·hū וְאָ֤רַב and lies in wait wə·’ā·raḇ לוֹ֙ , lōw וְקָ֣ם attacks wə·qām עָלָ֔יו him ‘ā·lāw וְהִכָּ֥הוּ and kills him wə·hik·kā·hū נֶ֖פֶשׁ . . . ne·p̄eš וָמֵ֑ת . . . , wā·mêṯ וְנָ֕ס and then flees wə·nās אֶל־ to ’el- אַחַ֖ת one ’a·ḥaṯ הָאֵֽל׃ of these hā·’êl הֶעָרִ֥ים cities , he·‘ā·rîm Deuteronomy 19:12 זִקְנֵ֣י the elders ziq·nê עִיר֔וֹ of his city ‘î·rōw וְשָֽׁלְחוּ֙ must send for him , wə·šā·lə·ḥū וְלָקְח֥וּ bring wə·lā·qə·ḥū אֹת֖וֹ him ’ō·ṯōw מִשָּׁ֑ם back , miš·šām וְנָתְנ֣וּ and hand him over to wə·nā·ṯə·nū
