יְהוָ֣ה YHWH Yah·weh אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ your God ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā וְהָיָ֕ה . . . wə·hā·yāh יַנְחִֽילְךָ֖ is giving you as an inheritance , yan·ḥî·lə·ḵā כָּל־ so that any kāl- רֹצֵֽחַ׃ manslayer rō·ṣê·aḥ לָנ֥וּס can flee lā·nūs שָׁ֖מָּה to these cities . šām·māh Deuteronomy 19:4 וְזֶה֙ Now this wə·zeh דְּבַ֣ר is the situation də·ḇar הָרֹצֵ֔חַ regarding the manslayer hā·rō·ṣê·aḥ אֲשֶׁר־ who ’ă·šer- יָנ֥וּס flees yā·nūs שָׁ֖מָּה [to one of these cities] šām·māh וָחָ֑י to save his life , wā·ḥāy אֲשֶׁ֨ר - ’ă·šer יַכֶּ֤ה having killed yak·keh אֶת־ - ’eṯ- רֵעֵ֙הוּ֙ his neighbor rê·‘ê·hū בִּבְלִי־ accidentally biḇ·lî- דַ֔עַת . . . , ḏa·‘aṯ וְה֛וּא . . . wə·hū לֹא־ without lō- שֹׂנֵ֥א intending to harm śō·nê ל֖וֹ him lōw מִתְּמֹ֥ל - mit·tə·mōl שִׁלְשֹֽׁם׃ - : šil·šōm Deuteronomy 19:5 וַאֲשֶׁר֩ If wa·’ă·šer יָבֹ֨א he goes yā·ḇō בַיַּעַר֮ into the forest ḇay·ya·‘ar אֶת־ with ’eṯ- רֵעֵ֥הוּ his neighbor rê·‘ê·hū לַחְטֹ֣ב to cut laḥ·ṭōḇ עֵצִים֒ timber ‘ê·ṣîm יָד֤וֹ vvv yā·ḏōw וְנִדְּחָ֨ה and swings wə·nid·də·ḥāh בַגַּרְזֶן֙ his axe ḇag·gar·zen לִכְרֹ֣ת to chop down liḵ·rōṯ הָעֵ֔ץ a tree , hā·‘êṣ וְנָשַׁ֤ל but the blade flies off wə·nā·šal הַבַּרְזֶל֙ . . . hab·bar·zel מִן־ . . . min- הָעֵ֔ץ the handle hā·‘êṣ וּמָצָ֥א and strikes ū·mā·ṣā אֶת־ - ’eṯ- וָמֵ֑ת and kills wā·mêṯ רֵעֵ֖הוּ his neighbor , rê·‘ê·hū ה֗וּא he hū יָנ֛וּס may flee yā·nūs אֶל־ to ’el- אַחַ֥ת one ’a·ḥaṯ הָאֵ֖לֶּה of these hā·’êl·leh הֶעָרִים־ cities he·‘ā·rîm- וָחָֽי׃ to save his life . wā·ḥāy Deuteronomy 19:6 פֶּן־ Otherwise , pen- גֹּאֵ֨ל the avenger gō·’êl הַדָּ֜ם of blood had·dām יִרְדֹּף֩ might pursue yir·dōp̄ הָרֹצֵ֗חַ the manslayer hā·rō·ṣê·aḥ אַחֲרֵ֣י ’a·ḥă·rê לְבָבוֹ֒ in a rage lə·ḇā·ḇōw כִּי־ - kî- יֵחַם֮ - , yê·ḥam וְהִשִּׂיג֛וֹ overtake him wə·hiś·śî·ḡōw כִּֽי־ if kî- הַדֶּ֖רֶךְ the distance had·de·reḵ יִרְבֶּ֥ה is great , yir·beh וְהִכָּ֣הוּ and strike him wə·hik·kā·hū נָ֑פֶשׁ dead nā·p̄eš וְלוֹ֙ though he wə·lōw אֵ֣ין did not ’ên מִשְׁפַּט־ deserve miš·paṭ- מָ֔וֶת to die , mā·weṯ כִּ֠י since kî ה֛וּא he hū ל֖וֹ lōw לֹ֣א did not lō שֹׂנֵ֥א intend any harm śō·nê מִתְּמ֥וֹל . . . mit·tə·mō·wl שִׁלְשֽׁוֹם׃ . . . . šil·šō·wm Deuteronomy 19:7 עַל־ This is why ‘al- כֵּ֛ן . . . kên אָנֹכִ֥י I ’ā·nō·ḵî מְצַוְּךָ֖ am commanding mə·ṣaw·wə·ḵā לֵאמֹ֑ר . . . lê·mōr תַּבְדִּ֥יל you to set apart taḇ·dîl לָֽךְ׃ס for yourselves lāḵ שָׁלֹ֥שׁ three šā·lōš
