הַכֹּהֵן֙ the priest hak·kō·hên הָעֹמֵ֞ד who stands hā·‘ō·mêḏ שָׁם֙ there šām אֶת־ - ’eṯ- לְשָׁ֤רֶת to serve lə·šā·reṯ יְהוָ֣ה YHWH Yah·weh אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ your God , ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā א֖וֹ or ’ōw אֶל־ to ’el- הַשֹּׁפֵ֑ט the judge , haš·šō·p̄êṭ וּמֵת֙ must be put to death . ū·mêṯ הָאִ֣ישׁ . . . hā·’îš הַה֔וּא . . . ha·hū וּבִֽעַרְתָּ֥ You must purge ū·ḇi·‘ar·tā הָרָ֖ע the evil hā·rā‘ מִיִּשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ from Israel . mî·yiś·rā·’êl Deuteronomy 17:13 וְכָל־ Then all wə·ḵāl הָעָ֖ם the people hā·‘ām יִשְׁמְע֣וּ will hear yiš·mə·‘ū וְיִרָ֑אוּ and be afraid , wə·yi·rā·’ū וְלֹ֥א and will no wə·lō עֽוֹד׃ס longer ‘ō·wḏ יְזִיד֖וּן behave arrogantly . yə·zî·ḏūn Deuteronomy 17:14 כִּֽי־ When kî- תָבֹ֣א you enter ṯā·ḇō אֶל־ . . . ’el- הָאָ֗רֶץ the land hā·’ā·reṣ אֲשֶׁ֨ר that ’ă·šer יְהוָ֤ה YHWH Yah·weh אֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙ your God ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā נֹתֵ֣ן is giving nō·ṯên לָ֔ךְ you lāḵ וִֽירִשְׁתָּ֖הּ and have taken possession of it wî·riš·tāh וְיָשַׁ֣בְתָּה and settled wə·yā·šaḇ·tāh בָּ֑הּ in it , bāh וְאָמַרְתָּ֗ and you say , wə·’ā·mar·tā אָשִׂ֤ימָה “ Let us set ’ā·śî·māh מֶ֔לֶךְ a king me·leḵ עָלַי֙ over us ‘ā·lay כְּכָל־ like all kə·ḵāl- הַגּוֹיִ֖ם the nations hag·gō·w·yim אֲשֶׁ֥ר - ’ă·šer סְבִיבֹתָֽי׃ around us , ” sə·ḇî·ḇō·ṯāy Deuteronomy 17:15 שׂ֣וֹם you are to appoint śō·wm עָלֶ֙יךָ֙ over yourselves ‘ā·le·ḵā מֶ֔לֶךְ the king me·leḵ אֲשֶׁ֥ר whom ’ă·šer יְהוָ֥ה YHWH Yah·weh אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ your God ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā בּ֑וֹ bōw יִבְחַ֛ר shall choose . yiḇ·ḥar תָּשִׂ֤ים Appoint tā·śîm מֶ֔לֶךְ a king me·leḵ מִקֶּ֣רֶב from among miq·qe·reḇ אַחֶ֗יךָ your brothers ; ’a·ḥe·ḵā תָּשִׂ֤ים . . . tā·śîm לֹ֣א you are not lō תוּכַ֗ל . . . ṯū·ḵal לָתֵ֤ת to set lā·ṯêṯ עָלֶ֙יךָ֙ . . . ‘ā·le·ḵā עָלֶ֙יךָ֙ over yourselves ‘ā·le·ḵā אִ֣ישׁ a foreigner ’îš נָכְרִ֔י . . . nā·ḵə·rî אֲשֶׁ֥ר who ’ă·šer הֽוּא׃ is hū לֹֽא־ not lō- אָחִ֖יךָ one of your brothers . ’ā·ḥî·ḵā Deuteronomy 17:16 רַק֮ But raq לֹא־ [the king] must not lō- יַרְבֶּה־ acquire many yar·beh- סוּסִים֒ horses sū·sîm לּ֣וֹ for himself lōw וְלֹֽא־ [or] wə·lō- הָעָם֙ send the people hā·‘ām יָשִׁ֤יב back yā·šîḇ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- מִצְרַ֔יְמָה to Egypt miṣ·ray·māh לְמַ֖עַן to lə·ma·‘an הַרְבּ֣וֹת acquire more har·bō·wṯ ס֑וּס horses , sūs וַֽיהוָה֙ for YHWH Yah·weh אָמַ֣ר has said ’ā·mar לָכֶ֔ם - , lā·ḵem תֹסִפ֗וּן ‘ You are ṯō·si·p̄ūn לֹ֣א never lō לָשׁ֛וּב to go back lā·šūḇ הַזֶּ֖ה that haz·zeh בַּדֶּ֥רֶךְ way bad·de·reḵ
