הַזֶּ֔ה this haz·zeh הָעָ֣ם people , hā·‘ām הֽוּא׃ and they hū וְהִנֵּ֥ה are indeed wə·hin·nêh קְשֵׁה־ a stiff-necked qə·šêh- עֹ֖רֶף . . . ‘ō·rep̄ עַם־ people . ‘am- Deuteronomy 9:14 הֶ֤רֶף Leave Me alone , he·rep̄ וְאַשְׁמִידֵ֔ם so that I may destroy them wə·’aš·mî·ḏêm וְאֶמְחֶ֣ה and blot out wə·’em·ḥeh אֶת־ - ’eṯ- שְׁמָ֔ם their name šə·mām מִמֶּ֙נִּי֙ from mim·men·nî מִתַּ֖חַת under mit·ta·ḥaṯ הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם heaven . haš·šā·mā·yim וְאֶֽעֱשֶׂה֙ Then I will make wə·’e·‘ĕ·śeh אֽוֹתְךָ֔ - ’ō·wṯ·ḵā לְגוֹי־ you into a nation lə·ḡō·w- עָצ֥וּם mightier ‘ā·ṣūm וָרָ֖ב and greater wā·rāḇ מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃ than they [are] . ” mim·men·nū Deuteronomy 9:15 וָאֵ֗פֶן So I went back wā·’ê·p̄en וָֽאֵרֵד֙ down wā·’ê·rêḏ מִן־ . . . min- הָהָ֔ר the mountain hā·hār וְהָהָ֖ר while it wə·hā·hār בֹּעֵ֣ר was blazing bō·‘êr בָּאֵ֑שׁ with fire , bā·’êš וּשְׁנֵי֙ with the two ū·šə·nê לֻחֹ֣ת tablets lu·ḥōṯ הַבְּרִ֔ית of the covenant hab·bə·rîṯ עַ֖ל in ‘al שְׁתֵּ֥י . . . šə·tê יָדָֽי׃ my hands . yā·ḏāy Deuteronomy 9:16 וָאֵ֗רֶא And I saw wā·’ê·re וְהִנֵּ֤ה how wə·hin·nêh חֲטָאתֶם֙ you had sinned ḥă·ṭā·ṯem לַיהוָ֣ה against YHWH Yah·weh אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֔ם your God ; ’ĕ·lō·hê·ḵem עֲשִׂיתֶ֣ם you had made ‘ă·śî·ṯem לָכֶ֔ם for yourselves lā·ḵem מַסֵּכָ֑ה a molten mas·sê·ḵāh עֵ֖גֶל calf . ‘ê·ḡel סַרְתֶּ֣ם You had turned aside sar·tem מַהֵ֔ר quickly ma·hêr מִן־ from min- הַדֶּ֕רֶךְ the way had·de·reḵ אֲשֶׁר־ that ’ă·šer- יְהוָ֖ה YHWH Yah·weh אֶתְכֶֽם׃ - ’eṯ·ḵem צִוָּ֥ה had commanded you . ṣiw·wāh Deuteronomy 9:17 וָאֶתְפֹּשׂ֙ So I took wā·’eṯ·pōś בִּשְׁנֵ֣י the two biš·nê הַלֻּחֹ֔ת tablets hal·lu·ḥōṯ וָֽאַשְׁלִכֵ֔ם and threw them wā·’aš·li·ḵêm מֵעַ֖ל out of mê·‘al שְׁתֵּ֣י . . . šə·tê יָדָ֑י my hands , yā·ḏāy וָאֲשַׁבְּרֵ֖ם shattering them wā·’ă·šab·bə·rêm לְעֵינֵיכֶֽם׃ before your eyes . lə·‘ê·nê·ḵem Deuteronomy 9:18 וָֽאֶתְנַפַּל֩ Then I fell down wā·’eṯ·nap·pal לִפְנֵ֨י before lip̄·nê יְהוָ֜ה YHWH Yah·weh אַרְבָּעִ֥ים for forty ’ar·bā·‘îm יוֹם֙ days yō·wm וְאַרְבָּעִ֣ים and forty wə·’ar·bā·‘îm לַ֔יְלָה nights , lay·lāh כָּרִאשֹׁנָ֗ה as [I had done] the first time . kā·ri·šō·nāh לֹ֣א I did not lō אָכַ֔לְתִּי eat ’ā·ḵal·tî לֶ֚חֶם bread le·ḥem שָׁתִ֑יתִי or drink šā·ṯî·ṯî וּמַ֖יִם water ū·ma·yim לֹ֣א . . . lō עַ֤ל because of ‘al כָּל־ all kāl- חַטַּאתְכֶם֙ the sin ḥaṭ·ṭaṯ·ḵem אֲשֶׁ֣ר - ’ă·šer חֲטָאתֶ֔ם you had committed ḥă·ṭā·ṯem לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת in doing la·‘ă·śō·wṯ הָרַ֛ע what was evil hā·ra‘ בְּעֵינֵ֥י in the sight bə·‘ê·nê יְהוָ֖ה of YHWH Yah·weh לְהַכְעִיסֽוֹ׃ and provoking Him to anger . lə·haḵ·‘î·sōw
