בַּמִּדְבָּ֑ר in the wilderness , bam·miḏ·bār לְמַ֨עַן so that lə·ma·‘an עַנֹּֽתְךָ֜ He might humble you ‘an·nō·ṯə·ḵā לְנַסֹּֽתְךָ֗ and test you lə·nas·sō·ṯə·ḵā לָדַ֜עַת in order to know lā·ḏa·‘aṯ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- אֲשֶׁ֧ר what ’ă·šer בִּֽלְבָבְךָ֛ was in your heart , bil·ḇā·ḇə·ḵā אִם־ whether or ’im- לֹֽא׃ not lō הֲתִשְׁמֹ֥ר you would keep hă·ṯiš·mōr מִצְוֹתוֹ His commandments . miṣ·wō·ṯō Deuteronomy 8:3 וַֽיְעַנְּךָ֮ He humbled you , way·‘an·nə·ḵā וַיַּרְעִבֶךָ֒ and in your hunger way·yar·‘i·ḇe·ḵā הַמָּן֙ He gave you manna ham·mān וַיַּֽאֲכִֽלְךָ֤ to eat , way·ya·’ă·ḵil·ḵā אֶת - ʾɛṯ אֲשֶׁ֣ר which ’ă·šer לֹא־ neither {you} lō- וְלֹ֥א nor wə·lō אֲבֹתֶ֑יךָ your fathers ’ă·ḇō·ṯe·ḵā יָדַ֔עְתָּ had known , yā·ḏa‘·tā לְמַ֣עַן so that lə·ma·‘an הוֹדִֽעֲךָ֗ . . . hō·w·ḏi·‘ă·ḵā יָדְע֖וּן you might understand yā·ḏə·‘ūn כִּ֠י that kî הָֽאָדָ֔ם man hā·’ā·ḏām לֹ֣א does not lō יִחְיֶ֣ה live yiḥ·yeh עַל־ on ‘al- הַלֶּ֤חֶם bread hal·le·ḥem לְבַדּוֹ֙ alone , lə·ḇad·dōw כִּ֛י but kî יִחְיֶ֥ה - yiḥ·yeh הָאָדָֽם׃ - hā·’ā·ḏām עַל־ on ‘al- כָּל־ every kāl- מוֹצָ֥א word that comes from mō·w·ṣā פִֽי־ the mouth p̄î- יְהוָ֖ה of YHWH . Yah·weh Deuteronomy 8:4 שִׂמְלָ֨תְךָ֜ Your clothing śim·lā·ṯə·ḵā לֹ֤א did not lō בָֽלְתָה֙ wear out ḇā·lə·ṯāh מֵֽעָלֶ֔יךָ . . . mê·‘ā·le·ḵā וְרַגְלְךָ֖ and your feet wə·raḡ·lə·ḵā לֹ֣א did not lō בָצֵ֑קָה swell ḇā·ṣê·qāh זֶ֖ה during these zeh אַרְבָּעִ֥ים forty ’ar·bā·‘îm שָׁנָֽה׃ years . šā·nāh Deuteronomy 8:5 וְיָדַעְתָּ֖ So know wə·yā·ḏa‘·tā עִם־ in ‘im- לְבָבֶ֑ךָ your heart lə·ḇā·ḇe·ḵā כִּ֗י that kî כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר just as ka·’ă·šer אִישׁ֙ a man ’îš אֶת־ - ’eṯ- יְיַסֵּ֥ר disciplines yə·yas·sêr בְּנ֔וֹ his son , bə·nōw יְהוָ֥ה [so] YHWH Yah·weh אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ your God ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā מְיַסְּרֶֽךָּ׃ disciplines you . mə·yas·sə·re·kā Deuteronomy 8:6 וְשָׁ֣מַרְתָּ֔ Therefore you shall keep wə·šā·mar·tā אֶת־ - ’eṯ- מִצְוֺ֖ת the commandments miṣ·wōṯ יְהוָ֣ה of YHWH Yah·weh אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ your God , ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā לָלֶ֥כֶת walking lā·le·ḵeṯ בִּדְרָכָ֖יו in His ways biḏ·rā·ḵāw וּלְיִרְאָ֥ה and fearing ū·lə·yir·’āh אֹתֽוֹ׃ Him . ’ō·ṯōw Deuteronomy 8:7 כִּ֚י For kî יְהוָ֣ה YHWH Yah·weh אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ your God ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā מְבִֽיאֲךָ֖ is bringing mə·ḇî·’ă·ḵā אֶל־ you into ’el- טוֹבָ֑ה a good ṭō·w·ḇāh אֶ֣רֶץ land , ’e·reṣ אֶ֚רֶץ a land ’e·reṣ נַ֣חֲלֵי of brooks na·ḥă·lê מָ֔יִם . . . mā·yim עֲיָנֹת֙ and fountains ‘ă·yā·nōṯ וּתְהֹמֹ֔ת and springs ū·ṯə·hō·mōṯ יֹצְאִ֥ים that flow yō·ṣə·’îm בַּבִּקְעָ֖ה through the valleys bab·biq·‘āh
