עַל־ That is why ‘al- כֵּ֛ן . . . kên הָעִ֖יר the town hā·‘îr קָרָ֥א was called qā·rā שֵׁם־ . . . šêm- צֽוֹעַר׃ Zoar . ṣō·w·‘ar Genesis 19:23 הַשֶּׁ֖מֶשׁ And by the time the sun haš·še·meš יָצָ֣א had risen yā·ṣā עַל־ over ‘al- הָאָ֑רֶץ the land , hā·’ā·reṣ וְל֖וֹט Lot wə·lō·wṭ בָּ֥א had reached bā צֹֽעֲרָה׃ Zoar . ṣō·‘ă·rāh Genesis 19:24 וַֽיהוָ֗ה Then YHWH Yah·weh הִמְטִ֧יר rained down him·ṭîr גָּפְרִ֣ית sulfur gā·p̄ə·rîṯ וָאֵ֑שׁ and fire wā·’êš עַל־ on ‘al- סְדֹ֛ם Sodom sə·ḏōm וְעַל־ . . . wə·‘al- עֲמֹרָ֖ה and Gomorrah — ‘ă·mō·rāh מֵאֵ֥ת from mê·’êṯ יְהוָ֖ה YHWH Yah·weh מִן־ out of min- הַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃ the heavens . haš·šā·mā·yim Genesis 19:25 וַֽיַּהֲפֹךְ֙ Thus He destroyed way·ya·hă·p̄ōḵ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הָאֵ֔ל these hā·’êl וְאֵ֖ת - wə·’êṯ הֶעָרִ֣ים cities he·‘ā·rîm כָּל־ and the entire kāl- הַכִּכָּ֑ר plain , hak·kik·kār וְאֵת֙ including wə·’êṯ כָּל־ all kāl- יֹשְׁבֵ֣י the inhabitants yō·šə·ḇê הֶעָרִ֔ים of the cities he·‘ā·rîm וְצֶ֖מַח and everything that grew wə·ṣe·maḥ הָאֲדָמָֽה׃ on the ground . hā·’ă·ḏā·māh Genesis 19:26 אִשְׁתּ֖וֹ But [Lot’s] wife ’iš·tōw וַתַּבֵּ֥ט looked wat·tab·bêṭ מֵאַחֲרָ֑יו back , mê·’a·ḥă·rāw וַתְּהִ֖י and she became wat·tə·hî נְצִ֥יב a pillar nə·ṣîḇ מֶֽלַח׃ of salt . me·laḥ Genesis 19:27 בַּבֹּ֑קֶר Early the next morning , bab·bō·qer אַבְרָהָ֖ם Abraham ’aḇ·rā·hām וַיַּשְׁכֵּ֥ם got up way·yaš·kêm אֶל־ and returned to ’el- הַ֨מָּק֔וֹם the place ham·mā·qō·wm אֲשֶׁר־ where ’ă·šer- עָ֥מַד he had stood ‘ā·maḏ שָׁ֖ם . . . šām אֶת־ . . . ’eṯ- פְּנֵ֥י before pə·nê יְהוָֽה׃ YHWH . Yah·weh Genesis 19:28 וַיַּשְׁקֵ֗ף He looked way·yaš·qêp̄ עַל־ down ‘al- פְּנֵ֤י toward pə·nê סְדֹם֙ Sodom sə·ḏōm וַעֲמֹרָ֔ה and Gomorrah wa·‘ă·mō·rāh וְעַֽל־ . . . wə·‘al- כָּל־ and all kāl- פְּנֵ֖י . . . pə·nê אֶ֣רֶץ the land ’e·reṣ הַכִּכָּ֑ר of the plain , hak·kik·kār וַיַּ֗רְא and he saw way·yar וְהִנֵּ֤ה . . . wə·hin·nêh קִיטֹ֣ר the smoke qî·ṭōr עָלָה֙ rising ‘ā·lāh הָאָ֔רֶץ from the land hā·’ā·reṣ כְּקִיטֹ֖ר like smoke kə·qî·ṭōr הַכִּבְשָֽׁן׃ from a furnace . hak·kiḇ·šān Genesis 19:29 וַיְהִ֗י So way·hî אֱלֹהִים֙ when God ’ĕ·lō·hîm אֶת־ - ’eṯ- בְּשַׁחֵ֤ת destroyed bə·ša·ḥêṯ עָרֵ֣י the cities ‘ā·rê הַכִּכָּ֔ר of the plain , hak·kik·kār אֱלֹהִ֖ים He ’ĕ·lō·hîm
