אֶ֣רֶץ - ’e·reṣ אֹכֶ֤לֶת devours ’ō·ḵe·leṯ יוֹשְׁבֶ֙יהָ֙ its inhabitants , yō·wō·šə·ḇe·hā הִ֔וא . . . hî וְכָל־ and all wə·ḵāl הָעָ֛ם the people hā·‘ām אֲשֶׁר־ - ’ă·šer- רָאִ֥ינוּ we saw rā·’î·nū בְתוֹכָ֖הּ there ḇə·ṯō·w·ḵāh אַנְשֵׁ֥י vvv ’an·šê מִדּֽוֹת׃ are great in stature . mid·dō·wṯ Numbers 13:33 רָאִ֗ינוּ We even saw rā·’î·nū אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הַנְּפִילִ֛ים the Nephilim han·nə·p̄î·lîm וְשָׁ֣ם there — wə·šām בְּנֵ֥י the descendants bə·nê עֲנָ֖ק of Anak ‘ă·nāq מִן־ that come from min- הַנְּפִלִ֑ים the Nephilim ! han·nə·p̄i·lîm וַנְּהִ֤י We seemed wan·nə·hî כַּֽחֲגָבִ֔ים like grasshoppers ka·ḥă·ḡā·ḇîm בְעֵינֵ֙ינוּ֙ in our own sight , ḇə·‘ê·nê·nū הָיִ֖ינוּ and we must have seemed hā·yî·nū בְּעֵינֵיהֶֽם׃ . . . bə·‘ê·nê·hem וְכֵ֥ן the same to them ! ” wə·ḵên Numbers 14:1 כָּל־ Then the whole kāl- הָ֣עֵדָ֔ה congregation hā·‘ê·ḏāh וַתִּשָּׂא֙ lifted up wat·tiś·śā אֶת־ ’eṯ- קוֹלָ֑ם their voices qō·w·lām וַֽיִּתְּנ֖וּ and cried out , way·yit·tə·nū הַהֽוּא׃ and that ha·hū בַּלַּ֥יְלָה night bal·lay·lāh הָעָ֖ם the people hā·‘ām וַיִּבְכּ֥וּ wept . way·yiḇ·kū Numbers 14:2 כֹּ֖ל All kōl בְּנֵ֣י the Israelites bə·nê יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל . . . yiś·rā·’êl וַיִּלֹּ֙נוּ֙ grumbled way·yil·lō·nū עַל־ against ‘al- מֹשֶׁ֣ה Moses mō·šeh וְעַֽל־ . . . wə·‘al- אַהֲרֹ֔ן and Aaron , ’a·hă·rōn כָּל־ and the whole kāl- הָעֵדָ֗ה congregation hā·‘ê·ḏāh וַֽיֹּאמְר֨וּ said way·yō·mə·rū אֲלֵהֶ֜ם to them , ’ă·lê·hem לוּ־ “ If only lū- מַ֙תְנוּ֙ we had died maṯ·nū בְּאֶ֣רֶץ in the land bə·’e·reṣ מִצְרַ֔יִם of Egypt , miṣ·ra·yim א֛וֹ or ’ōw לוּ־ if only lū- מָֽתְנוּ׃ we had died mā·ṯə·nū הַזֶּ֖ה in this haz·zeh בַּמִּדְבָּ֥ר wilderness ! bam·miḏ·bār Numbers 14:3 וְלָמָ֣ה Why wə·lā·māh יְ֠הוָה is YHWH Yah·weh מֵבִ֨יא bringing mê·ḇî אֹתָ֜נוּ us ’ō·ṯā·nū אֶל־ into ’el- הַזֹּאת֙ this haz·zōṯ הָאָ֤רֶץ land hā·’ā·reṣ לִנְפֹּ֣ל to fall lin·pōl בַּחֶ֔רֶב by the sword ? ba·ḥe·reḇ נָשֵׁ֥ינוּ Our wives nā·šê·nū וְטַפֵּ֖נוּ and children wə·ṭap·pê·nū יִהְי֣וּ will become yih·yū לָבַ֑ז plunder . lā·ḇaz הֲל֧וֹא Would it not hă·lō·w ט֦וֹב be better ṭō·wḇ לָ֖נוּ for us lā·nū שׁ֥וּב to go back šūḇ מִצְרָֽיְמָה׃ to Egypt ? ” miṣ·rā·yə·māh Numbers 14:4 וַיֹּאמְר֖וּ So they said way·yō·mə·rū אֶל־ to ’el- אִ֣ישׁ one ’îš אָחִ֑יו another , ’ā·ḥîw נִתְּנָ֥ה “ Let us appoint nit·tə·nāh רֹ֖אשׁ a leader rōš וְנָשׁ֥וּבָה and return wə·nā·šū·ḇāh מִצְרָֽיְמָה׃ to Egypt . ” miṣ·rā·yə·māh
