וְהָרִ֙יעוּ֙ sound the alarm wə·hā·rî·‘ū קָדְשִׁ֔י on My holy qāḏ·šî בְּהַ֣ר mountain ! bə·har כֹּ֖ל Let all kōl יֹשְׁבֵ֣י who dwell yō·šə·ḇê הָאָ֑רֶץ in the land hā·’ā·reṣ יִרְגְּז֕וּ tremble , yir·gə·zū כִּֽי־ for kî- יוֹם־ the Day yō·wm- יְהוָ֖ה of YHWH Yah·weh בָ֥א is coming ; ḇā כִּ֥י indeed , kî קָרֽוֹב׃ it is near — qā·rō·wḇ Joel 2:2 י֧וֹם a day yō·wm חֹ֣שֶׁךְ of darkness ḥō·šeḵ וַאֲפֵלָ֗ה and gloom , wa·’ă·p̄ê·lāh י֤וֹם a day yō·wm עָנָן֙ of clouds ‘ā·nān וַעֲרָפֶ֔ל and blackness . wa·‘ă·rā·p̄el כְּשַׁ֖חַר Like the dawn kə·ša·ḥar פָּרֻ֣שׂ overspreading pā·ruś עַל־ . . . ‘al- הֶֽהָרִ֑ים the mountains he·hā·rîm רַ֣ב a great raḇ וְעָצ֔וּם and strong wə·‘ā·ṣūm עַ֚ם army [appears] , ‘am כָּמֹ֗הוּ such as kā·mō·hū לֹ֤א never lō נִֽהְיָה֙ was nih·yāh מִן־ of min- הָ֣עוֹלָ֔ם old , hā·‘ō·w·lām וְאַֽחֲרָיו֙ wə·’a·ḥă·rāw לֹ֣א nor will ever be lō יוֹסֵ֔ף . . . yō·w·sêp̄ עַד־ . . . ‘aḏ- שְׁנֵ֖י in ages to come šə·nê דּ֥וֹר . . . dō·wr וָדֽוֹר׃ . . . . wā·ḏō·wr Joel 2:3 לְפָנָיו֙ Before them lə·p̄ā·nāw אֵ֔שׁ a fire ’êš אָ֣כְלָה devours , ’ā·ḵə·lāh וְאַחֲרָ֖יו and behind them wə·’a·ḥă·rāw לֶֽהָבָ֑ה a flame le·hā·ḇāh תְּלַהֵ֣ט scorches . tə·la·hêṭ הָאָ֜רֶץ The land hā·’ā·reṣ לְפָנָ֗יו before them lə·p̄ā·nāw כְּגַן־ is like the Garden kə·ḡan- עֵ֨דֶן of Eden , ‘ê·ḏen וְאַֽחֲרָיו֙ but behind them , wə·’a·ḥă·rāw מִדְבַּ֣ר it is like a desert miḏ·bar שְׁמָמָ֔ה wasteland — šə·mā·māh וְגַם־ surely wə·ḡam- לֹא־ nothing lō- הָ֥יְתָה will hā·yə·ṯāh פְּלֵיטָ֖ה escape pə·lê·ṭāh לּֽוֹ׃ them . lōw Joel 2:4 כְּמַרְאֵ֥ה Their appearance kə·mar·’êh מַרְאֵ֑הוּ is like that mar·’ê·hū סוּסִ֖ים of horses , sū·sîm יְרוּצֽוּן׃ and they gallop yə·rū·ṣūn וּכְפָרָשִׁ֖ים like swift steeds ū·ḵə·p̄ā·rā·šîm כֵּ֥ן . . . . kên Joel 2:5 כְּק֣וֹל With a sound like kə·qō·wl מַרְכָּב֗וֹת that of chariots mar·kā·ḇō·wṯ יְרַקֵּד֔וּן they bound yə·raq·qê·ḏūn עַל־ over ‘al- רָאשֵׁ֤י vvv rā·šê הֶֽהָרִים֙ the mountaintops , he·hā·rîm כְּקוֹל֙ like the crackling kə·qō·wl אֵ֔שׁ of fire ’êš לַ֣הַב . . . la·haḇ אֹכְלָ֖ה consuming ’ō·ḵə·lāh קָ֑שׁ stubble , qāš עָצ֔וּם like a mighty ‘ā·ṣūm כְּעַ֣ם army kə·‘am עֱר֖וּךְ deployed ‘ĕ·rūḵ מִלְחָמָֽה׃ for battle . mil·ḥā·māh Joel 2:6 עַמִּ֑ים Nations ‘am·mîm יָחִ֣ילוּ writhe in horror yā·ḥî·lū מִפָּנָ֖יו before them ; mip·pā·nāw כָּל־ every kāl- פָּנִ֖ים face pā·nîm קִבְּצ֥וּ turns pale qib·bə·ṣū פָארֽוּר׃ . . . . p̄ā·rūr
