Daniel 5:5 בַּהּ־ At bah- שַׁעֲתָ֗ה that moment ša·‘ă·ṯāh אֶצְבְּעָן֙ the fingers ’eṣ·bə·‘ān דִּ֣י of dî אֱנָ֔שׁ a human ’ĕ·nāš יַד־ hand yaḏ- נְפַקוּ appeared nə·p̄a·qū וְכָֽתְבָן֙ and wrote wə·ḵā·ṯə·ḇān עַל־ on ‘al- גִּירָ֕א the plaster gî·rā דִּֽי־ of dî- כְתַ֥ל the wall , ḵə·ṯal לָקֳבֵ֣ל near lā·qo·ḇêl נֶבְרַשְׁתָּ֔א the lampstand neḇ·raš·tā דִּ֣י in dî מַלְכָּ֑א the royal mal·kā הֵיכְלָ֖א palace . hê·ḵə·lā וּמַלְכָּ֣א As the king ū·mal·kā חָזֵ֔ה watched ḥā·zêh פַּ֥ס the hand pas יְדָ֖ה . . . yə·ḏāh דִּ֥י that dî כָתְבָֽה׃ was writing , ḵā·ṯə·ḇāh Daniel 5:6 אֱדַ֤יִן - ’ĕ·ḏa·yin מַלְכָּא֙ - mal·kā זִיוֺ֣הִי his face zi·yō·hî שְׁנ֔וֹהִי grew pale šə·nō·w·hî וְרַעיֹנֹ֖הִי and his thoughts wə·ra·ʿ·yō·nō·hī יְבַהֲלוּנֵּ֑הּ so alarmed him yə·ḇa·hă·lūn·nêh חַרְצֵהּ֙ that his hips ḥar·ṣêh וְקִטְרֵ֤י . . . wə·qiṭ·rê מִשְׁתָּרַ֔יִן gave way miš·tā·ra·yin וְאַ֨רְכֻבָּתֵ֔הּ and his knees wə·’ar·ḵub·bā·ṯêh דָּ֥א knocked together dā לְדָ֖א . . . lə·ḏā נָֽקְשָֽׁן׃ . . . . nā·qə·šān Daniel 5:7 מַלְכָּא֙ The king mal·kā בְּחַ֔יִל . . . bə·ḥa·yil קָרֵ֤א called out for qā·rê לְאָ֣שְׁפַיָּ֔א the enchanters , lə·’ā·šə·p̄ay·yā כַּשְׂדָּיֵא astrologers , kaś·då̄·yē וְגָזְרַיָּ֑א and diviners wə·ḡā·zə·ray·yā לְהֶֽעָלָה֙ to be brought in , lə·he·‘ā·lāh עָנֵ֨ה . . . ‘ā·nêh מַלְכָּ֜א and he mal·kā וְאָמַ֣ר׀ said wə·’ā·mar לְחַכִּימֵ֣י to these wise men lə·ḥak·kî·mê בָבֶ֗ל of Babylon , ḇā·ḇel דִּ֣י “ Whoever dî כָל־ . . . ḵāl אֱ֠נָשׁ . . . ’ĕ·nāš דִּֽי־ . . . dî- יִקְרֵ֞ה reads yiq·rêh דְנָ֗ה this ḏə·nāh כְּתָבָ֣ה inscription kə·ṯā·ḇāh יְחַוִּנַּ֔נִי and tells me yə·ḥaw·win·na·nî וּפִשְׁרֵהּ֙ its interpretation ū·p̄iš·rêh יִלְבַּ֗שׁ will be clothed yil·baš אַרְגְּוָנָ֣א in purple ’ar·gə·wā·nā דַהֲבָא֙ and have a gold ḏa·hă·ḇā וְהַמּוֹנְכָא chain wə·ham·mō·nə·ḵå̄ דִֽי־ . . . ḏî- עַֽל־ placed around ‘al- צַוְּארֵ֔הּ his neck , ṣaw·wə·rêh וְתַלְתִּ֥י and he will be made the third wə·ṯal·tî יִשְׁלַֽט׃ס highest ruler yiš·laṭ בְמַלְכוּתָ֖א in the kingdom . ” ḇə·mal·ḵū·ṯā Daniel 5:8 אֱדַ֙יִן֙ So ’ĕ·ḏa·yin כֹּ֖ל all kōl מַלְכָּ֑א the king’s mal·kā חַכִּימֵ֣י wise men ḥak·kî·mê עָלֲלִין came in , ʿå̄·lă·līn כָהֲלִ֤ין but they could ḵā·hă·lîn וְלָֽא־ not wə·lā- לְמִקְרֵ֔א read lə·miq·rê כְּתָבָא֙ the inscription kə·ṯā·ḇā וּפִשְׁרָא or interpret it ū·p̄iš·rå̄ לְהוֹדָעָ֥ה . . . lə·hō·w·ḏā·‘āh לְמַלְכָּֽא׃ for [him] . lə·mal·kā Daniel 5:9 אֱ֠דַיִן Then ’ĕ·ḏa·yin מַלְכָּ֤א King mal·kā בֵלְשַׁאצַּר֙ Belshazzar ḇê·lə·šaṣ·ṣar שַׂגִּ֣יא became even more śag·gî מִתְבָּהַ֔ל terrified , miṯ·bā·hal וְזִיוֺ֖הִי his face wə·zi·yō·hî שָׁנַ֣יִן grew even more pale , šā·na·yin
