כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֨ר as ka·’ă·šer הָֽאִשָּׁ֔ה the woman’s hā·’iš·šāh בַּ֣עַל husband ba·‘al יָשִׁ֤ית demands yā·šîṯ עָלָיו֙ - ‘ā·lāw וְנָתַ֖ן and as the court allows wə·nā·ṯan בִּפְלִלִֽים׃ . . . . bip̄·li·lîm Exodus 21:23 וְאִם־ But if wə·’im- אָס֖וֹן a serious injury ’ā·sō·wn יִהְיֶ֑ה results , yih·yeh וְנָתַתָּ֥ה then you must require wə·nā·ṯat·tāh נֶ֖פֶשׁ a life ne·p̄eš תַּ֥חַת for ta·ḥaṯ נָֽפֶשׁ׃ a life — nā·p̄eš Exodus 21:24 עַ֚יִן eye ‘a·yin תַּ֣חַת for ta·ḥaṯ עַ֔יִן eye , ‘a·yin שֵׁ֖ן tooth šên תַּ֣חַת for ta·ḥaṯ שֵׁ֑ן tooth , šên יָ֚ד hand yāḏ תַּ֣חַת for ta·ḥaṯ יָ֔ד hand , yāḏ רֶ֖גֶל foot re·ḡel תַּ֥חַת for ta·ḥaṯ רָֽגֶל׃ foot , rā·ḡel Exodus 21:25 כְּוִיָּה֙ burn kə·wî·yāh תַּ֣חַת for ta·ḥaṯ כְּוִיָּ֔ה burn , kə·wî·yāh פֶּ֖צַע wound pe·ṣa‘ תַּ֣חַת for ta·ḥaṯ פָּ֑צַע wound , pā·ṣa‘ חַבּוּרָ֕ה [and] stripe ḥab·bū·rāh תַּ֖חַת for ta·ḥaṯ חַבּוּרָֽה׃ס stripe . ḥab·bū·rāh Exodus 21:26 וְכִֽי־ If wə·ḵî- אִ֜ישׁ a man ’îš אֶת־ - ’eṯ- יַכֶּ֨ה strikes yak·keh וְשִֽׁחֲתָ֑הּ and blinds wə·ši·ḥă·ṯāh עֵ֥ין the eye ‘ên עַבְדּ֛וֹ of his manservant ‘aḇ·dōw אֽוֹ־ or ’ōw- אֶת־ - ’eṯ- אֲמָת֖וֹ maidservant , ’ă·mā·ṯōw יְשַׁלְּחֶ֖נּוּ he must let the servant go yə·šal·lə·ḥen·nū לַֽחָפְשִׁ֥י free la·ḥā·p̄ə·šî תַּ֥חַת as compensation for ta·ḥaṯ עֵינֽוֹ׃ס . . . ‘ê·nōw עֵ֥ין the eye . ‘ên Exodus 21:27 וְאִם־ And if wə·’im- יַפִּ֑יל he knocks out yap·pîl שֵׁ֥ן the tooth šên עַבְדּ֛וֹ of his manservant ‘aḇ·dōw אֽוֹ־ or ’ōw- אֲמָת֖וֹ maidservant , ’ă·mā·ṯōw יְשַׁלְּחֶ֖נּוּ he must let the servant go yə·šal·lə·ḥen·nū לַֽחָפְשִׁ֥י free la·ḥā·p̄ə·šî תַּ֥חַת as compensation for ta·ḥaṯ שִׁנּֽוֹ׃פ . . . šin·nōw שֵׁ֥ן the tooth . šên Exodus 21:28 וְכִֽי־ If wə·ḵî- שׁ֥וֹר an ox šō·wr אֶת־ - ’eṯ- יִגַּ֨ח gores yig·gaḥ אִ֛ישׁ a man ’îš א֥וֹ or ’ōw אֶת־ - ’eṯ- אִשָּׁ֖ה woman ’iš·šāh וָמֵ֑ת to death , wā·mêṯ הַשּׁ֗וֹר the ox haš·šō·wr סָק֨וֹל must surely sā·qō·wl יִסָּקֵ֜ל be stoned , yis·sā·qêl בְּשָׂר֔וֹ and its meat bə·śā·rōw וְלֹ֤א must not wə·lō יֵאָכֵל֙ be eaten . yê·’ā·ḵêl אֶת־ - ’eṯ- וּבַ֥עַל But the owner ū·ḇa·‘al הַשּׁ֖וֹר of the ox haš·šō·wr נָקִֽי׃ shall not be held responsible . nā·qî
