הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים God hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm וְהֵבֵאתָ֥ and bring wə·hê·ḇê·ṯā אַתָּ֛ה . . . ’at·tāh אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הַדְּבָרִ֖ים their causes had·də·ḇā·rîm אֶל־ to ’el- הָאֱלֹהִֽים׃ Him . hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm Exodus 18:20 וְהִזְהַרְתָּ֣ה Teach wə·hiz·har·tāh אֶתְהֶ֔ם - ’eṯ·hem אֶת־ them ’eṯ- הַחֻקִּ֖ים the statutes ha·ḥuq·qîm וְאֶת־ - wə·’eṯ- הַתּוֹרֹ֑ת and laws , hat·tō·w·rōṯ וְהוֹדַעְתָּ֣ and show wə·hō·w·ḏa‘·tā לָהֶ֗ם them lā·hem אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הַדֶּ֙רֶךְ֙ the way had·de·reḵ יֵ֣לְכוּ to live yê·lə·ḵū בָ֔הּ - ḇāh וְאֶת־ - wə·’eṯ- הַֽמַּעֲשֶׂ֖ה and the work ham·ma·‘ă·śeh אֲשֶׁ֥ר - ’ă·šer יַעֲשֽׂוּן׃ they must do . ya·‘ă·śūn Exodus 18:21 וְאַתָּ֣ה Furthermore , wə·’at·tāh תֶחֱזֶ֣ה select ṯe·ḥĕ·zeh חַ֜יִל capable ḥa·yil אַנְשֵׁי־ men ’an·šê- מִכָּל־ from among mik·kāl הָ֠עָם the people — hā·‘ām יִרְאֵ֧י God-fearing yir·’ê אֱלֹהִ֛ים . . . , ’ĕ·lō·hîm אַנְשֵׁ֥י . . . ’an·šê אֱמֶ֖ת trustworthy men ’ĕ·meṯ שֹׂ֣נְאֵי who are averse śō·nə·’ê בָ֑צַע to dishonest gain . ḇā·ṣa‘ וְשַׂמְתָּ֣ Appoint them wə·śam·tā עֲלֵהֶ֗ם over [the people] ‘ă·lê·hem שָׂרֵ֤י as leaders śā·rê אֲלָפִים֙ of thousands , ’ă·lā·p̄îm שָׂרֵ֣י . . . śā·rê מֵא֔וֹת of hundreds , mê·’ō·wṯ שָׂרֵ֥י . . . śā·rê חֲמִשִּׁ֖ים of fifties , ḥă·miš·šîm וְשָׂרֵ֥י . . . wə·śā·rê עֲשָׂרֹֽת׃ and of tens . ‘ă·śā·rōṯ Exodus 18:22 וְשָׁפְט֣וּ Have [these men] judge wə·šā·p̄ə·ṭū אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הָעָם֮ the people hā·‘ām בְּכָל־ at all bə·ḵāl עֵת֒ times . ‘êṯ וְהָיָ֞ה Then wə·hā·yāh יָבִ֣יאוּ they can bring yā·ḇî·’ū אֵלֶ֔יךָ you ’ê·le·ḵā כָּל־ any kāl- הַגָּדֹל֙ major hag·gā·ḏōl הַדָּבָ֤ר issue , had·dā·ḇār וְכָל־ but all wə·ḵāl הַקָּטֹ֖ן minor haq·qā·ṭōn הַדָּבָ֥ר cases had·dā·ḇār יִשְׁפְּטוּ־ they can judge yiš·pə·ṭū- הֵ֑ם on their own , hêm וְהָקֵל֙ so that your load may be lightened wə·hā·qêl מֵֽעָלֶ֔יךָ . . . mê·‘ā·le·ḵā וְנָשְׂא֖וּ as they share wə·nā·śə·’ū אִתָּֽךְ׃ it with you . ’it·tāḵ Exodus 18:23 אִ֣ם If ’im אֶת־ - ’eṯ- תַּעֲשֶׂ֔ה you follow ta·‘ă·śeh הַזֶּה֙ this haz·zeh הַדָּבָ֤ר advice had·dā·ḇār אֱלֹהִ֔ים and God ’ĕ·lō·hîm וְצִוְּךָ֣ so directs you , wə·ṣiw·wə·ḵā וְיָֽכָלְתָּ֖ then you will be able wə·yā·ḵā·lə·tā עֲמֹ֑ד to endure , ‘ă·mōḏ וְגַם֙ and wə·ḡam כָּל־ all kāl- הַזֶּ֔ה these haz·zeh עַל־ . . . ‘al- הָעָ֣ם people hā·‘ām יָבֹ֥א can go yā·ḇō מְקֹמ֖וֹ home mə·qō·mōw בְשָׁלֽוֹם׃ in peace . ” ḇə·šā·lō·wm Exodus 18:24 מֹשֶׁ֖ה Moses mō·šeh לְק֣וֹל . . . lə·qō·wl וַיִּשְׁמַ֥ע listened way·yiš·ma‘
