Jeremiah 50:40 אֱלֹהִ֜ים As God ’ĕ·lō·hîm אֶת־ - ’eṯ- כְּמַהְפֵּכַ֨ת overthrew kə·mah·pê·ḵaṯ סְדֹ֧ם Sodom sə·ḏōm וְאֶת־ - wə·’eṯ- עֲמֹרָ֛ה and Gomorrah ‘ă·mō·rāh וְאֶת־ along with wə·’eṯ- שְׁכֵנֶ֖יהָ their neighbors , ” šə·ḵê·ne·hā נְאֻם־ declares nə·’um- יְהוָ֑ה YHWH , Yah·weh לֹֽא־ “ no lō- אִ֔ישׁ one ’îš יֵשֵׁ֥ב will dwell yê·šêḇ שָׁם֙ there ; šām וְלֹֽא־ no wə·lō- בֶּן־ man ben- אָדָֽם׃ . . . ’ā·ḏām יָג֥וּר will abide yā·ḡūr בָּ֖הּ there . bāh Jeremiah 50:41 הִנֵּ֛ה Behold , hin·nêh עַ֥ם an army ‘am בָּ֖א is coming bā מִצָּפ֑וֹן from the north ; miṣ·ṣā·p̄ō·wn גָּדוֹל֙ a great gā·ḏō·wl וְג֤וֹי nation wə·ḡō·w רַבִּ֔ים and many rab·bîm וּמְלָכִ֣ים kings ū·mə·lā·ḵîm יֵעֹ֖רוּ are stirred up yê·‘ō·rū מִיַּרְכְּתֵי־ from the ends mî·yar·kə·ṯê- אָֽרֶץ׃ of the earth . ’ā·reṣ Jeremiah 50:42 יַחֲזִ֗יקוּ They grasp ya·ḥă·zî·qū קֶ֣שֶׁת the bow qe·šeṯ וְכִידֹ֞ן and spear ; wə·ḵî·ḏōn הֵ֙מָּה֙ they [are] hêm·māh אַכְזָרִ֥י cruel ’aḵ·zā·rî וְלֹ֣א vvv wə·lō יְרַחֵ֔מוּ and merciless . yə·ra·ḥê·mū קוֹלָם֙ Their voice qō·w·lām יֶהֱמֶ֔ה roars ye·hĕ·meh כַּיָּ֣ם like the sea , kay·yām יִרְכָּ֑בוּ and they ride yir·kā·ḇū וְעַל־ upon wə·‘al- סוּסִ֖ים horses , sū·sîm עָר֗וּךְ lined up ‘ā·rūḵ כְּאִישׁ֙ like men kə·’îš לַמִּלְחָמָ֔ה in formation lam·mil·ḥā·māh עָלַ֖יִךְ against you , ‘ā·la·yiḵ בַּת־ O Daughter baṯ- בָּבֶֽל׃ of Babylon . bā·ḇel Jeremiah 50:43 מֶֽלֶךְ־ The king me·leḵ- בָּבֶ֛ל of Babylon bā·ḇel אֶת־ - ’eṯ- שָׁמַ֧ע has heard šā·ma‘ שִׁמְעָ֖ם the report , šim·‘ām יָדָ֑יו and his hands yā·ḏāw וְרָפ֣וּ hang limp . wə·rā·p̄ū צָרָה֙ Anguish ṣā·rāh הֶחֱזִיקַ֔תְהוּ has gripped him , he·ḥĕ·zî·qaṯ·hū חִ֖יל pain ḥîl כַּיּוֹלֵדָֽה׃ like that of a woman in labor . kay·yō·w·lê·ḏāh Jeremiah 50:44 הִ֠נֵּה Behold , hin·nêh יַעֲלֶ֨ה one will come up ya·‘ă·leh כְּאַרְיֵ֞ה like a lion kə·’ar·yêh מִגְּא֣וֹן from the thickets mig·gə·’ō·wn הַיַּרְדֵּן֮ of the Jordan hay·yar·dên אֶל־ to ’el- נְוֵ֣ה the watered pasture nə·wêh אֵיתָן֒ . . . . ’ê·ṯān כִּֽי־ For kî- אַרְגִּ֤עָה in an instant ’ar·gi·‘āh אֲרוּצֵם I will chase [Babylon] ʾă·rū·ṣēm מֵֽעָלֶ֔יהָ from her land . mê·‘ā·le·hā וּמִ֥י Who ū·mî בָח֖וּר is the chosen one ḇā·ḥūr אֶפְקֹ֑ד I will appoint ’ep̄·qōḏ אֵלֶ֣יהָ for this ? ’ê·le·hā כִּ֣י For kî מִ֤י who mî כָמ֙וֹנִי֙ is like Me , ḵā·mō·w·nî וּמִ֣י and who ū·mî יוֹעִדֶ֔נִּי can challenge Me ? yō·w·‘i·ḏen·nî וּמִֽי־ What ū·mî- זֶ֣ה . . . zeh רֹעֶ֔ה shepherd rō·‘eh אֲשֶׁ֥ר - ’ă·šer יַעֲמֹ֖ד can stand ya·‘ă·mōḏ לְפָנָֽי׃ against Me ?” lə·p̄ā·nāy
