הַחֲיָלִ֖ים of the armies ha·ḥă·yā·lîm אֲשֶׁ֣ר - ’ă·šer בַּשָּׂדֶ֑ה in the field baś·śā·ḏeh בָּ֥אוּ came bā·’ū אֶל־ to ’el- גְּדַלְיָ֖הוּ Gedaliah gə·ḏal·yā·hū הַמִּצְפָּֽתָה׃ at Mizpah ham·miṣ·pā·ṯāh Jeremiah 40:14 וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ and said to him , way·yō·mə·rū אֵלָ֗יו . . . ’ê·lāw הֲיָדֹ֤עַ “ Are you aware hă·yā·ḏō·a‘ תֵּדַע֙ . . . tê·ḏa‘ כִּ֞י that kî בַּעֲלִ֣יס׀ Baalis ba·‘ă·lîs מֶ֣לֶךְ king me·leḵ בְּנֵֽי־ of the Ammonites bə·nê- עַמּ֗וֹן . . . ‘am·mō·wn שָׁלַח֙ has sent šā·laḥ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- יִשְׁמָעֵ֣אל Ishmael yiš·mā·‘êl בֶּן־ son ben- נְתַנְיָ֔ה of Nethaniah nə·ṯan·yāh לְהַכֹּתְךָ֖ to take lə·hak·kō·ṯə·ḵā נָ֑פֶשׁ your life ? ” nā·p̄eš גְּדַלְיָ֖הוּ But Gedaliah gə·ḏal·yā·hū בֶּן־ son ben- אֲחִיקָֽם׃ of Ahikam ’ă·ḥî·qām וְלֹא־ did not wə·lō- הֶאֱמִ֣ין believe he·’ĕ·mîn לָהֶ֔ם them . lā·hem Jeremiah 40:15 וְיוֹחָנָ֣ן Then Johanan wə·yō·w·ḥā·nān בֶּן־ son ben- קָרֵ֡חַ of Kareah qā·rê·aḥ אָמַ֣ר spoke ’ā·mar בַסֵּ֨תֶר privately ḇas·sê·ṯer אֶל־ to ’el- גְּדַלְיָהוּ֩ Gedaliah gə·ḏal·yā·hū בַּמִּצְפָּ֜ה at Mizpah . bam·miṣ·pāh אֵ֤לְכָה “ Let me go ’ê·lə·ḵāh נָּא֙ . . . nā וְאַכֶּה֙ and kill wə·’ak·keh אֶת־ - ’eṯ- יִשְׁמָעֵ֣אל Ishmael yiš·mā·‘êl בֶּן־ son ben- נְתַנְיָ֔ה of Nethaniah , ” nə·ṯan·yāh לֵאמֹ֗ר he said . lê·mōr לֹ֣א “ No lō וְאִ֖ישׁ one wə·’îš יֵדָ֑ע will know it . yê·ḏā‘ לָ֧מָּה Why lām·māh יַכֶּ֣כָּה should he take yak·kek·kāh נֶּ֗פֶשׁ your life ne·p̄eš וְנָפֹ֙צוּ֙ and scatter wə·nā·p̄ō·ṣū כָּל־ all kāl- יְהוּדָ֔ה the [people] of Judah yə·hū·ḏāh הַנִּקְבָּצִ֣ים who have gathered han·niq·bā·ṣîm אֵלֶ֔יךָ to you , ’ê·le·ḵā שְׁאֵרִ֥ית so that the remnant šə·’ê·rîṯ יְהוּדָֽה׃ of Judah yə·hū·ḏāh וְאָבְדָ֖ה would perish ?” wə·’ā·ḇə·ḏāh Jeremiah 40:16 גְּדַלְיָ֤הוּ But Gedaliah gə·ḏal·yā·hū בֶן־ son ḇen- אֲחִיקָם֙ of Ahikam ’ă·ḥî·qām וַיֹּ֨אמֶר said way·yō·mer אֶל־ to ’el- יוֹחָנָ֣ן Johanan yō·w·ḥā·nān בֶּן־ son ben- קָרֵ֔חַ of Kareah , qā·rê·aḥ אַֽל־ “ Do not ’al- תַּעַשׂ do ta·ʿaś אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הַדָּבָ֣ר such a thing had·dā·ḇār הַזֶּ֑ה . . . ! haz·zeh כִּֽי־ . . . kî- אַתָּ֥ה What you are ’at·tāh דֹבֵ֖ר saying ḏō·ḇêr אֶל־ about ’el- יִשְׁמָעֵֽאל׃ס Ishmael yiš·mā·‘êl שֶׁ֛קֶר is a lie .” še·qer Jeremiah 41:1 וַיְהִ֣י׀ - way·hî הַשְּׁבִיעִ֗י In the seventh haš·šə·ḇî·‘î בַּחֹ֣דֶשׁ month , ba·ḥō·ḏeš יִשְׁמָעֵ֣אל Ishmael yiš·mā·‘êl בֶּן־ son ben- נְתַנְיָ֣ה of Nethaniah , nə·ṯan·yāh בֶן־ the son ḇen- אֱלִישָׁמָ֣ע of Elishama , ’ĕ·lî·šā·mā‘ הַ֠מְּלוּכָה [who was a member] of the royal ham·mə·lū·ḵāh מִזֶּ֣רַע family miz·ze·ra‘
