יְרוּשָׁלִַ֙ם֙ of Jerusalem yə·rū·šā·lim וִֽיהוּדָ֔ה and Judah wî·hū·ḏāh הַמֻּגְלִ֖ים who were being exiled ham·muḡ·lîm בָּבֶֽלָה׃ to Babylon . bā·ḇe·lāh Jeremiah 40:2 רַב־ The captain raḇ- טַבָּחִ֖ים of the guard ṭab·bā·ḥîm וַיִּקַּ֥ח found way·yiq·qaḥ לְיִרְמְיָ֑הוּ Jeremiah lə·yir·mə·yā·hū וַיֹּ֣אמֶר and said way·yō·mer אֵלָ֔יו to him , ’ê·lāw יְהוָ֣ה “ YHWH Yah·weh אֱלֹהֶ֗יךָ your God ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā דִּבֶּר֙ decreed dib·ber אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הַזֹּ֔את this haz·zōṯ הָרָעָ֣ה disaster hā·rā·‘āh אֶל־ on ’el- הַזֶּֽה׃ this haz·zeh הַמָּק֖וֹם place , ham·mā·qō·wm Jeremiah 40:3 יְהוָ֖ה and now YHWH Yah·weh וַיָּבֵ֥א has fulfilled it ; way·yā·ḇê וַיַּ֛עַשׂ He has done way·ya·‘aś כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר just as ka·’ă·šer דִּבֵּ֑ר He said . dib·bêr כִּֽי־ Because kî- חֲטָאתֶ֤ם you [people] have sinned ḥă·ṭā·ṯem לַֽיהוָה֙ against YHWH Yah·weh וְלֹֽא־ and have not wə·lō- שְׁמַעְתֶּ֣ם obeyed šə·ma‘·tem בְּקוֹל֔וֹ His voice , bə·qō·w·lōw הַזֶּֽה׃ this haz·zeh דָּבָר thing då̄·ḇå̄r וְהָיָ֥ה has happened wə·hā·yāh לָכֶ֖ם to you . lā·ḵem Jeremiah 40:4 וְעַתָּ֞ה But now , wə·‘at·tāh הִנֵּ֧ה behold , hin·nêh פִתַּחְתִּ֣יךָ I am freeing p̄it·taḥ·tî·ḵā הַיּ֗וֹם you today hay·yō·wm מִֽן־ from min- הָאזִקִּים֮ the chains hā·ziq·qîm אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ’ă·šer עַל־ were on ‘al- יָדֶךָ֒ your wrists . yā·ḏe·ḵā אִם־ If ’im- ט֨וֹב it pleases ṭō·wḇ בְּעֵינֶ֜יךָ . . . bə·‘ê·ne·ḵā לָב֧וֹא you to come lā·ḇō·w אִתִּ֣י with me ’it·tî בָבֶ֗ל to Babylon , ḇā·ḇel בֹּ֚א then come , bō וְאָשִׂ֤ים and I will take care of wə·’ā·śîm אֶת־ - ’eṯ- עֵינִי֙ - ‘ê·nî עָלֶ֔יךָ you . ‘ā·le·ḵā וְאִם־ But if wə·’im- רַ֧ע it seems wrong ra‘ בְּעֵינֶ֛יךָ . . . bə·‘ê·ne·ḵā לָבֽוֹא־ to you to come lā·ḇō·w- אִתִּ֥י with me ’it·tî בָבֶ֖ל to Babylon , ḇā·ḇel חֲדָ֑ל go no farther . ḥă·ḏāl רְאֵה֙ Look , rə·’êh כָּל־ the whole kāl- הָאָ֣רֶץ land hā·’ā·reṣ לְפָנֶ֔יךָ is before you . lə·p̄ā·ne·ḵā אֶל־ . . . ’el- בְּעֵינֶ֛יךָ Wherever it seems bə·‘ê·ne·ḵā ט֨וֹב good ṭō·wḇ וְאֶל־ . . . wə·’el- הַיָּשָׁ֧ר and right to you hay·yā·šār לָלֶ֥כֶת - , lā·le·ḵeṯ לֵֽךְ׃ go lêḵ שָׁ֖מָּה there .” šām·māh Jeremiah 40:5 לֹֽא־ But before Jeremiah lō- וְעוֹדֶ֣נּוּ . . . wə·‘ō·w·ḏen·nū יָשׁ֗וּב turned to go , yā·šūḇ וְשֻׁ֡בָה Nebuzaradan wə·šu·ḇāh אֶל־ added , ’el- גְּדַלְיָ֣ה “ Return to Gedaliah gə·ḏal·yāh בֶן־ son ḇen- אֲחִיקָ֣ם of Ahikam , ’ă·ḥî·qām בֶּן־ the son ben- שָׁפָ֡ן of Shaphan , šā·p̄ān אֲשֶׁר֩ whom ’ă·šer מֶֽלֶךְ־ the king me·leḵ- בָּבֶ֜ל of Babylon bā·ḇel הִפְקִ֨יד has appointed hip̄·qîḏ בְּעָרֵ֣י over the cities bə·‘ā·rê
