הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ the king ham·me·leḵ אֵ֣ין can do nothing ’ên יוּכַ֥ל . . . yū·ḵal אֶתְכֶ֖ם - ’eṯ·ḵem דָּבָֽר׃ to stop you .” dā·ḇār Jeremiah 38:6 וַיִּקְח֣וּ So they took way·yiq·ḥū אֶֽת־ - ’eṯ- יִרְמְיָ֗הוּ Jeremiah yir·mə·yā·hū וַיַּשְׁלִ֨כוּ and dropped way·yaš·li·ḵū אֹת֜וֹ him ’ō·ṯōw אֶל־ into ’el- הַבּ֣וֹר׀ the cistern hab·bō·wr מַלְכִּיָּ֣הוּ of Malchiah , mal·kî·yā·hū הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ the king’s ham·me·leḵ בֶן־ son , ḇen- אֲשֶׁר֙ which ’ă·šer בַּחֲצַ֣ר was in the courtyard ba·ḥă·ṣar הַמַּטָּרָ֔ה of the guard . ham·maṭ·ṭā·rāh וַיְשַׁלְּח֥וּ They lowered way·šal·lə·ḥū אֶֽת־ - ’eṯ- יִרְמְיָ֖הוּ Jeremiah yir·mə·yā·hū בַּחֲבָלִ֑ים with ropes ba·ḥă·ḇā·lîm וּבַבּ֤וֹר into the cistern , ū·ḇab·bō·wr אֵֽין־ which had no ’ên- מַ֙יִם֙ water ma·yim כִּ֣י but only kî אִם־ . . . ’im- טִ֔יט mud , ṭîṭ יִרְמְיָ֖הוּ and Jeremiah yir·mə·yā·hū וַיִּטְבַּ֥ע sank down way·yiṭ·ba‘ בַּטִּֽיט׃ס into the mud . baṭ·ṭîṭ Jeremiah 38:7 עֶֽבֶד־ vvv ‘e·ḇeḏ- מֶ֨לֶךְ Now Ebed-melech me·leḵ הַכּוּשִׁ֜י the Cushite , hak·kū·šî אִ֣ישׁ . . . ’îš סָרִ֗יס a court official sā·rîs וְהוּא֙ . . . wə·hū הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ in the royal ham·me·leḵ כִּֽי־ . . . kî- בְּבֵ֣ית palace , bə·ḇêṯ וַיִּשְׁמַ֡ע heard way·yiš·ma‘ יִרְמְיָ֖הוּ that Jeremiah yir·mə·yā·hū נָתְנ֥וּ had been put nā·ṯə·nū אֶֽת־ - ’eṯ- אֶל־ into ’el- הַבּ֑וֹר the cistern . hab·bō·wr וְהַמֶּ֥לֶךְ While the king wə·ham·me·leḵ יוֹשֵׁ֖ב was sitting yō·wō·šêḇ בְּשַׁ֥עַר at the Gate bə·ša·‘ar בִּנְיָמִֽן׃ of Benjamin , bin·yā·min Jeremiah 38:8 עֶֽבֶד־ vvv ‘e·ḇeḏ- מֶ֖לֶךְ Ebed-melech me·leḵ וַיֵּצֵ֥א went out way·yê·ṣê הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ from the king’s ham·me·leḵ מִבֵּ֣ית palace mib·bêṯ וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר and said way·ḏab·bêr אֶל־ to ’el- הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ the king ham·me·leḵ לֵאמֹֽר׃ . . . , lê·mōr Jeremiah 38:9 אֲדֹנִ֣י “ My lord ’ă·ḏō·nî הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ the king , ham·me·leḵ הָאֵ֙לֶּה֙ these hā·’êl·leh אֵ֣ת - ’êṯ הָאֲנָשִׁ֤ים men hā·’ă·nā·šîm הֵרֵ֜עוּ have acted wickedly hê·rê·‘ū כָּל־ in all kāl- אֲשֶׁ֤ר that ’ă·šer עָשׂוּ֙ they have done ‘ā·śū לְיִרְמְיָ֣הוּ to Jeremiah lə·yir·mə·yā·hū הַנָּבִ֔יא the prophet . han·nā·ḇî אֵ֥ת - ’êṯ אֲשֶׁר־ - ’ă·šer- הִשְׁלִ֖יכוּ They have dropped him hiš·lî·ḵū אֶל־ into ’el- הַבּ֑וֹר the cistern , hab·bō·wr תַּחְתָּיו֙ where taḥ·tāw וַיָּ֤מָת he will starve to death way·yā·māṯ מִפְּנֵ֣י . . . mip·pə·nê הָֽרָעָ֔ב . . . , hā·rā·‘āḇ כִּ֣י for kî אֵ֥ין there is no ’ên ע֖וֹד more ‘ō·wḏ הַלֶּ֛חֶם bread hal·le·ḥem בָּעִֽיר׃ in the city .” bā·‘îr Jeremiah 38:10 הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ So the king ham·me·leḵ
