אֶ֨ת־ - ’eṯ- וַיִּשְׁמַ֞ע heard way·yiš·ma‘ הַדְּבָרִ֔ים - had·də·ḇā·rîm אֲשֶׁ֧ר that ’ă·šer יִרְמְיָ֛הוּ Jeremiah yir·mə·yā·hū מְדַבֵּ֥ר had been telling mə·ḏab·bêr אֶל־ . . . ’el- כָּל־ all kāl- הָעָ֖ם the people hā·‘ām לֵאמֹֽר׃ס - : lê·mōr Jeremiah 38:2 כֹּה֮ “ This is what kōh יְהוָה֒ YHWH Yah·weh אָמַ֣ר says : ’ā·mar הַיֹּשֵׁב֙ Whoever stays hay·yō·šêḇ הַזֹּ֔את in this haz·zōṯ בָּעִ֣יר city bā·‘îr יָמ֕וּת will die yā·mūṯ בַּחֶ֖רֶב by sword ba·ḥe·reḇ בָּרָעָ֣ב and famine bā·rā·‘āḇ וּבַדָּ֑בֶר and plague , ū·ḇad·dā·ḇer וְהַיֹּצֵ֤א but whoever surrenders wə·hay·yō·ṣê אֶל־ to ’el- הַכַּשְׂדִּים֙ the Chaldeans hak·kaś·dîm יִחְיֶה will live ; yiḥ·yɛh וְהָיְתָה־ he will retain wə·hā·yə·ṯāh- לּ֥וֹ lōw נַפְשׁ֛וֹ his life nap̄·šōw לְשָׁלָ֖ל like a spoil of war , lə·šā·lāl וָחָֽי׃ס and he will live . wā·ḥāy Jeremiah 38:3 כֹּ֖ה This is what kōh יְהוָ֑ה YHWH Yah·weh אָמַ֣ר says : ’ā·mar הַזֹּ֗את This haz·zōṯ הָעִ֣יר city hā·‘îr הִנָּתֹ֨ן will surely be delivered hin·nā·ṯōn תִּנָּתֵ֜ן . . . tin·nā·ṯên בְּיַ֛ד into the hands bə·yaḏ חֵ֥יל of the army ḥêl מֶֽלֶךְ־ of the king me·leḵ- בָּבֶ֖ל of Babylon , bā·ḇel וּלְכָדָֽהּ׃ and he will capture it . ” ū·lə·ḵā·ḏāh Jeremiah 38:4 הַשָּׂרִ֜ים Then the officials haś·śā·rîm וַיֹּאמְר֨וּ said way·yō·mə·rū אֶל־ to ’el- הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ the king , ham·me·leḵ הַזֶּה֒ “ This haz·zeh הָאִ֣ישׁ man hā·’îš י֣וּמַת ought to die , yū·maṯ נָא֮ . . . nā אֶת־ - ’eṯ- כִּֽי־ for kî- עַל־ . . . ‘al- כֵּ֡ן . . . kên הֽוּא־ he hū- מְרַפֵּ֡א is discouraging mə·rap·pê אֶת־ - ’eṯ- יְדֵי֩ - yə·ḏê אַנְשֵׁ֨י the warriors ’an·šê הַמִּלְחָמָ֜ה . . . ham·mil·ḥā·māh הַֽנִּשְׁאָרִ֣ים׀ who remain han·niš·’ā·rîm הַזֹּ֗את in this haz·zōṯ וְאֵת֙ - wə·’êṯ יְדֵ֣י - yə·ḏê בָּעִ֣יר city , bā·‘îr כָל־ as well as all ḵāl הָעָ֔ם the people , hā·‘ām לְדַבֵּ֣ר by speaking lə·ḏab·bêr הָאֵ֑לֶּה such hā·’êl·leh כַּדְּבָרִ֖ים words kad·də·ḇā·rîm אֲלֵיהֶ֔ם to them ; ’ă·lê·hem כִּ֣י׀ kî הַזֶּ֗ה this haz·zeh הָאִ֣ישׁ man hā·’îš אֵינֶ֨נּוּ is not ’ê·nen·nū דֹרֵ֧שׁ seeking ḏō·rêš לְשָׁל֛וֹם the well-being lə·šā·lō·wm הַזֶּ֖ה of these haz·zeh לָעָ֥ם people , lā·‘ām כִּ֥י but kî אִם־ . . . ’im- לְרָעָֽה׃ their ruin .” lə·rā·‘āh Jeremiah 38:5 הִנֵּה־ “ Here hin·nêh- ה֖וּא he is ,” hū וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ replied way·yō·mer הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ King ham·me·leḵ צִדְקִיָּ֔הוּ Zedekiah . ṣiḏ·qî·yā·hū בְּיֶדְכֶ֑ם “ He is in your hands , bə·yeḏ·ḵem כִּֽי־ since kî-
