יְהוָ֑ה am YHWH . ” Yah·weh כֵֽן׃ So this is what ḵên וַיַּֽעֲשׂוּ־ the Israelites did . way·ya·‘ă·śū- Exodus 14:5 לְמֶ֣לֶךְ When the king lə·me·leḵ מִצְרַ֔יִם of Egypt miṣ·ra·yim וַיֻּגַּד֙ was told way·yug·gaḏ כִּ֥י that kî הָעָ֑ם the people hā·‘ām בָרַ֖ח had fled , ḇā·raḥ פַּרְעֹ֤ה Pharaoh par·‘ōh וַעֲבָדָיו֙ and his officials wa·‘ă·ḇā·ḏāw וַ֠יֵּהָפֵךְ changed way·yê·hā·p̄êḵ לְבַ֨ב their minds lə·ḇaḇ אֶל־ about ’el- הָעָ֔ם [them] hā·‘ām וַיֹּֽאמרוּ֙ and said , way·yō·m·rū מַה־ “ What mah- זֹּ֣את . . . zōṯ עָשִׂ֔ינוּ have we done ? ‘ā·śî·nū כִּֽי־ . . . kî- שִׁלַּ֥חְנוּ We have released šil·laḥ·nū אֶת־ - ’eṯ- יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל Israel yiś·rā·’êl מֵעָבְדֵֽנוּ׃ from serving us . ” mê·‘ā·ḇə·ḏê·nū Exodus 14:6 וַיֶּאְסֹ֖ר So [Pharaoh] prepared way·ye’·sōr אֶת־ - ’eṯ- רִכְבּ֑וֹ his chariot riḵ·bōw וְאֶת־ - wə·’eṯ- לָקַ֥ח and took lā·qaḥ עַמּ֖וֹ his army ‘am·mōw עִמּֽוֹ׃ with him . ‘im·mōw Exodus 14:7 וַיִּקַּ֗ח He took way·yiq·qaḥ שֵׁשׁ־ 600 šêš- מֵא֥וֹת . . . mê·’ō·wṯ בָּח֔וּר of the best bā·ḥūr רֶ֙כֶב֙ chariots , re·ḵeḇ וְכֹ֖ל and all wə·ḵōl רֶ֣כֶב the other chariots re·ḵeḇ מִצְרָ֑יִם of Egypt , miṣ·rā·yim וְשָׁלִשִׁ֖ם with officers wə·šā·li·šim עַל־ over ‘al- כֻּלּֽוֹ׃ all of them . kul·lōw Exodus 14:8 יְהֹוָ֗ה And YHWH Yah·weh אֶת־ - ’eṯ- וַיְחַזֵּ֣ק hardened way·ḥaz·zêq לֵ֤ב the heart lêḇ פַּרְעֹה֙ of Pharaoh par·‘ōh מֶ֣לֶךְ king me·leḵ מִצְרַ֔יִם of Egypt miṣ·ra·yim וַיִּרְדֹּ֕ף so that he pursued way·yir·dōp̄ אַחֲרֵ֖י . . . ’a·ḥă·rê בְּנֵ֣י the Israelites bə·nê יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל . . . , yiś·rā·’êl וּבְנֵ֣י - ū·ḇə·nê יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל - yiś·rā·’êl יֹצְאִ֖ים who were marching out yō·ṣə·’îm בְּיָ֥ד defiantly bə·yāḏ רָמָֽה׃ . . . . rā·māh Exodus 14:9 מִצְרַ֜יִם The Egyptians — miṣ·ra·yim כָּל־ all kāl- פַּרְעֹ֔ה Pharaoh’s par·‘ōh סוּס֙ horses sūs רֶ֣כֶב and chariots , re·ḵeḇ וּפָרָשָׁ֖יו horsemen ū·p̄ā·rā·šāw וְחֵיל֑וֹ and troops — wə·ḥê·lōw וַיִּרְדְּפ֨וּ pursued [the Israelites] way·yir·də·p̄ū אַחֲרֵיהֶ֗ם and ’a·ḥă·rê·hem וַיַּשִּׂ֤יגוּ overtook way·yaś·śî·ḡū אוֹתָם֙ them ’ō·w·ṯām חֹנִ֣ים as they camped ḥō·nîm עַל־ by ‘al- הַיָּ֔ם the sea hay·yām עַל־ near ‘al- פִּי֙ vvv pî הַֽחִירֹ֔ת Pi-hahiroth , ha·ḥî·rōṯ לִפְנֵ֖י opposite lip̄·nê בַּ֥עַל vvv ba·‘al צְפֹֽן׃ Baal-zephon . ṣə·p̄ōn Exodus 14:10 וּפַרְעֹ֖ה As Pharaoh ū·p̄ar·‘ōh הִקְרִ֑יב approached , hiq·rîḇ בְנֵֽי־ the Israelites ḇə·nê- יִשְׂרָאֵ֨ל . . . yiś·rā·’êl
