עַל־ This is why ‘al- כֵּן֩ . . . kên אֲנִ֨י I ’ă·nî זֹבֵ֜חַ sacrifice zō·ḇê·aḥ לַֽיהוָ֗ה to YHWH Yah·weh פֶּ֤טֶר the firstborn pe·ṭer הַזְּכָרִ֔ים male haz·zə·ḵā·rîm כָּל־ of every kāl- רֶ֙חֶם֙ womb , re·ḥem אֶפְדֶּֽה׃ but I redeem ’ep̄·deh וְכָל־ all wə·ḵāl בְּכ֥וֹר the firstborn bə·ḵō·wr בָּנַ֖י of my sons . ’ bā·nay Exodus 13:16 וְהָיָ֤ה So it shall serve as wə·hā·yāh לְאוֹת֙ a sign lə·’ō·wṯ עַל־ on ‘al- יָ֣דְכָ֔ה your hand yā·ḏə·ḵāh וּלְטוֹטָפֹ֖ת and a symbol ū·lə·ṭō·w·ṭā·p̄ōṯ בֵּ֣ין on your forehead bên עֵינֶ֑יךָ . . . , ‘ê·ne·ḵā כִּ֚י for kî בְּחֹ֣זֶק with a mighty bə·ḥō·zeq יָ֔ד hand yāḏ יְהוָ֖ה YHWH Yah·weh הוֹצִיאָ֥נוּ brought us out hō·w·ṣî·’ā·nū מִמִּצְרָֽיִם׃ס of Egypt . ” mim·miṣ·rā·yim Exodus 13:17 וַיְהִ֗י - way·hî פַּרְעֹה֮ When Pharaoh par·‘ōh אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הָעָם֒ let the people hā·‘ām בְּשַׁלַּ֣ח go , bə·šal·laḥ אֱלֹהִ֗ים God ’ĕ·lō·hîm וְלֹא־ did not wə·lō- נָחָ֣ם lead them nā·ḥām דֶּ֚רֶךְ along the road de·reḵ אֶ֣רֶץ through the land ’e·reṣ פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים of the Philistines , pə·liš·tîm כִּ֥י though kî ה֑וּא it hū קָר֖וֹב was shorter . qā·rō·wḇ כִּ֣י׀ For kî אֱלֹהִ֗ים God ’ĕ·lō·hîm פֶּֽן־ . . . pen- אָמַ֣ר said , ’ā·mar בִּרְאֹתָ֥ם “ If [the people] face bir·’ō·ṯām מִלְחָמָ֖ה war , mil·ḥā·māh הָעָ֛ם [they] hā·‘ām יִנָּחֵ֥ם might change their minds yin·nā·ḥêm וְשָׁ֥בוּ and return wə·šā·ḇū מִצְרָֽיְמָה׃ to Egypt . ” miṣ·rā·yə·māh Exodus 13:18 אֱלֹהִ֧ים׀ So God ’ĕ·lō·hîm הָעָ֛ם led the people hā·‘ām וַיַּסֵּ֨ב around way·yas·sêḇ דֶּ֥רֶךְ by the way de·reḵ הַמִּדְבָּ֖ר of the wilderness ham·miḏ·bār אֶת־ - ’eṯ- ס֑וּף toward the Red sūp̄ יַם־ Sea . yam- בְנֵי־ And the Israelites ḇə·nê- יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל . . . yiś·rā·’êl עָל֥וּ left ‘ā·lū מֵאֶ֥רֶץ the land mê·’e·reṣ מִצְרָֽיִם׃ of Egypt miṣ·rā·yim וַחֲמֻשִׁ֛ים arrayed for battle . wa·ḥă·mu·šîm Exodus 13:19 מֹשֶׁ֛ה Moses mō·šeh אֶת־ - ’eṯ- וַיִּקַּ֥ח took way·yiq·qaḥ עַצְמ֥וֹת the bones ‘aṣ·mō·wṯ יוֹסֵ֖ף of Joseph yō·w·sêp̄ עִמּ֑וֹ with him ‘im·mōw כִּי֩ because kî בְּנֵ֤י {Joseph had made} the sons bə·nê יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ of Israel yiś·rā·’êl הַשְׁבֵּ֨עַ swear a solemn oath haš·bê·a‘ הִשְׁבִּ֜יעַ . . . hiš·bî·a‘ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- לֵאמֹ֔ר when he said , lê·mōr אֱלֹהִים֙ “ God ’ĕ·lō·hîm פָּקֹ֨ד will surely attend to pā·qōḏ יִפְקֹ֤ד . . . yip̄·qōḏ אֶתְכֶ֔ם you , ’eṯ·ḵem וְהַעֲלִיתֶ֧ם and then you must carry wə·ha·‘ă·lî·ṯem אֶת־ - ’eṯ- עַצְמֹתַ֛י my bones ‘aṣ·mō·ṯay אִתְּכֶֽם׃ with you ’it·tə·ḵem מִזֶּ֖ה from this place . ” miz·zeh
