מַדּ֗וּעַ Why mad·dū·a‘ דֶּ֤רֶךְ does the way de·reḵ רְשָׁעִים֙ of the wicked rə·šā·‘îm צָלֵ֔חָה prosper ? ṣā·lê·ḥāh בָֽגֶד׃ Why do all the faithless ḇā·ḡeḏ כָּל־ . . . kāl- בֹּ֥גְדֵי . . . bō·ḡə·ḏê שָׁל֖וּ live at ease ? šā·lū Jeremiah 12:2 נְטַעְתָּם֙ You planted them , nə·ṭa‘·tām גַּם־ and gam- שֹׁרָ֔שׁוּ they have taken root . šō·rā·šū יֵלְכ֖וּ They have grown yê·lə·ḵū גַּם־ and gam- עָ֣שׂוּ produced ‘ā·śū פֶ֑רִי fruit . p̄e·rî קָר֤וֹב . . . qā·rō·wḇ אַתָּה֙ You ’at·tāh בְּפִיהֶ֔ם are ever on their lips , bə·p̄î·hem וְרָח֖וֹק but far wə·rā·ḥō·wq מִכִּלְיוֹתֵיהֶֽם׃ from their hearts . mik·kil·yō·w·ṯê·hem Jeremiah 12:3 וְאַתָּ֤ה But You wə·’at·tāh יְדַעְתָּ֔נִי know me , yə·ḏa‘·tā·nî יְהוָה֙ O YHWH ; Yah·weh תִּרְאֵ֕נִי You see me tir·’ê·nî וּבָחַנְתָּ֥ and test ū·ḇā·ḥan·tā לִבִּ֖י my heart lib·bî אִתָּ֑ךְ toward You . ’it·tāḵ הַתִּקֵם֙ Drag away [the wicked] hat·ti·qêm כְּצֹ֣אן like sheep kə·ṣōn לְטִבְחָ֔ה to the slaughter lə·ṭiḇ·ḥāh וְהַקְדִּשֵׁ֖ם and set them apart wə·haq·di·šêm לְי֥וֹם for the day lə·yō·wm הֲרֵגָֽה׃ס of carnage . hă·rê·ḡāh Jeremiah 12:4 עַד־ How long ‘aḏ- מָתַי֙ . . . mā·ṯay הָאָ֔רֶץ will the land hā·’ā·reṣ תֶּאֱבַ֣ל mourn te·’ĕ·ḇal וְעֵ֥שֶׂב and the grass wə·‘ê·śeḇ כָּל־ of every kāl- הַשָּׂדֶ֖ה field haś·śā·ḏeh יִיבָ֑שׁ be withered ? yî·ḇāš מֵרָעַ֣ת Because of the evil mê·rā·‘aṯ יֹֽשְׁבֵי־ of its residents yō·šə·ḇê- בָ֗הּ , ḇāh בְהֵמוֹת֙ the animals ḇə·hê·mō·wṯ וָע֔וֹף and birds wā·‘ō·wp̄ סָפְתָ֤ה have been swept away , sā·p̄ə·ṯāh כִּ֣י for kî אָמְר֔וּ the people have said , ’ā·mə·rū לֹ֥א “ He cannot lō יִרְאֶ֖ה see yir·’eh אֶת־ - ’eṯ- אַחֲרִיתֵֽנוּ׃ what our end will be .” ’a·ḥă·rî·ṯê·nū Jeremiah 12:5 כִּ֣י “ If kî רַ֙צְתָּה֙ you have raced raṣ·tāh אֶת־ with ’eṯ- רַגְלִ֥ים׀ men on foot raḡ·lîm וַיַּלְא֔וּךָ and they have worn you out , way·yal·’ū·ḵā וְאֵ֥יךְ how wə·’êḵ תְּתַֽחֲרֶ֖ה can you compete tə·ṯa·ḥă·reh אֶת־ with ’eṯ- הַסּוּסִ֑ים horses ? has·sū·sîm אַתָּ֣ה If you ’at·tāh בוֹטֵ֔חַ stumble ḇō·w·ṭê·aḥ שָׁלוֹם֙ in a peaceful šā·lō·wm וּבְאֶ֤רֶץ land , ū·ḇə·’e·reṣ וְאֵ֥יךְ how wə·’êḵ תַּעֲשֶׂ֖ה will you do ta·‘ă·śeh בִּגְא֥וֹן in the thickets biḡ·’ō·wn הַיַּרְדֵּֽן׃ of the Jordan ? hay·yar·dên Jeremiah 12:6 כִּ֧י Even kî גַם־ . . . ḡam- אַחֶ֣יךָ your brothers — ’a·ḥe·ḵā אָבִ֗יךָ your own father’s ’ā·ḇî·ḵā וּבֵית־ household — ū·ḇêṯ- גַּם־ even gam- הֵ֙מָּה֙ they hêm·māh בָּ֣גְדוּ have betrayed bā·ḡə·ḏū בָ֔ךְ you ; ḇāḵ גַּם־ even gam- הֵ֛מָּה they hêm·māh קָרְא֥וּ have cried qā·rə·’ū מָלֵ֑א aloud mā·lê אַחֲרֶ֖יךָ against you . ’a·ḥă·re·ḵā אַל־ Do not ’al-
