בְּמִבְטַחַ֔יִךְ those you trust ; bə·miḇ·ṭa·ḥa·yiḵ וְלֹ֥א you will not wə·lō תַצְלִ֖יחִי prosper ṯaṣ·lî·ḥî לָהֶֽם׃ by their help . ” lā·hem Jeremiah 3:1 לֵאמֹ֡ר “ - lê·mōr הֵ֣ן If hên אִ֣ישׁ a man ’îš אֶת־ - ’eṯ- יְשַׁלַּ֣ח divorces yə·šal·laḥ אִשְׁתּוֹ֩ his wife ’iš·tōw וְהָלְכָ֨ה and she leaves wə·hā·lə·ḵāh מֵאִתּ֜וֹ him mê·’it·tōw וְהָיְתָ֣ה to marry wə·hā·yə·ṯāh לְאִישׁ־ . . . lə·’îš- אַחֵ֗ר another , ’a·ḥêr ע֔וֹד can he ever ‘ō·wḏ הֲיָשׁ֤וּב return hă·yā·šūḇ אֵלֶ֙יהָ֙ to her ? ’ê·le·hā הֲל֛וֹא Would not hă·lō·w הַהִ֑יא such ha·hî הָאָ֣רֶץ a land hā·’ā·reṣ חָנ֥וֹף be completely ḥā·nō·wp̄ תֶּחֱנַ֖ף defiled ? te·ḥĕ·nap̄ וְאַ֗תְּ But you wə·’at זָנִית֙ have played the harlot zā·nîṯ רַבִּ֔ים with many rab·bîm רֵעִ֣ים lovers — rê·‘îm וְשׁ֥וֹב and you would return wə·šō·wḇ אֵלַ֖י to Me ? ” ’ê·lay נְאֻם־ declares nə·’um- יְהֹוָֽה׃ YHWH . Yah·weh Jeremiah 3:2 שְׂאִֽי־ “ Lift up śə·’î- עֵינַ֨יִךְ your eyes ‘ê·na·yiḵ עַל־ to ‘al- שְׁפָיִ֜ם the barren heights šə·p̄ā·yim וּרְאִ֗י and see . ū·rə·’î אֵיפֹה֙ Is there any place where ’ê·p̄ōh לֹ֣א you have not lō שֻׁגַּלְתְּ been violated ? šug·galt יָשַׁ֣בְתְּ You sat yā·šaḇt עַל־ beside ‘al- דְּרָכִים֙ the highways də·rā·ḵîm לָהֶ֔ם {waiting} for [your lovers] , lā·hem כַּעֲרָבִ֖י like a nomad ka·‘ă·rā·ḇî בַּמִּדְבָּ֑ר in the desert . bam·miḏ·bār וַתַּחֲנִ֣יפִי You have defiled wat·ta·ḥă·nî·p̄î אֶ֔רֶץ the land ’e·reṣ בִּזְנוּתַ֖יִךְ with your prostitution biz·nū·ṯa·yiḵ וּבְרָעָתֵֽךְ׃ and wickedness . ū·ḇə·rā·‘ā·ṯêḵ Jeremiah 3:3 רְבִבִ֔ים Therefore the showers rə·ḇi·ḇîm וַיִּמָּנְע֣וּ have been withheld , way·yim·mā·nə·‘ū ל֣וֹא and no lō·w וּמַלְק֖וֹשׁ spring rains ū·mal·qō·wōš הָיָ֑ה have fallen . hā·yāh הָ֣יָה Yet you have hā·yāh לָ֔ךְ lāḵ וּמֵ֨צַח the brazen look ū·mê·ṣaḥ אִשָּׁ֤ה of a prostitute ’iš·šāh זוֹנָה֙ . . . ; zō·w·nāh מֵאַ֖נְתְּ you refuse mê·’ant הִכָּלֵֽם׃ to be ashamed . hik·kā·lêm Jeremiah 3:4 הֲל֣וֹא Have you not hă·lō·w מֵעַ֔תָּה just mê·‘at·tāh קָרָאתִי called qå̄·rå̄·ṯī לִ֖י to Me , lî אָבִ֑י ‘ My Father , ’ā·ḇî אָֽתָּה׃ You [are] ’āt·tāh אַלּ֥וּף my friend ’al·lūp̄ נְעֻרַ֖י from youth . nə·‘u·ray Jeremiah 3:5 הֲיִנְטֹ֣ר Will He be angry hă·yin·ṭōr לְעוֹלָ֔ם forever ? lə·‘ō·w·lām אִם־ . . . ’im- יִשְׁמֹ֖ר Will He be indignant yiš·mōr לָנֶ֑צַח to the end ? ’ lā·ne·ṣaḥ הִנֵּ֥ה This hin·nêh דִבַּרְתִּי you have spoken , ḏib·bar·tī וַתַּעֲשִׂ֥י but you keep doing wat·ta·‘ă·śî הָרָע֖וֹת all the evil hā·rā·‘ō·wṯ וַתּוּכָֽל׃פ you can . ” wat·tū·ḵāl Jeremiah 3:6 בִּימֵי֙ Now in the days bî·mê הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ of King ham·me·leḵ יֹאשִׁיָּ֣הוּ Josiah , yō·šî·yā·hū
