אֶ֥רֶץ a land ’e·reṣ מַאְפֵּ֖לְיָ֑ה of dense darkness ? ma’·pê·lə·yāh מַדּ֜וּעַ Why mad·dū·a‘ עַמִּי֙ do My people ‘am·mî אָמְר֤וּ say , ’ā·mə·rū רַ֔דְנוּ ‘ We [are free to] roam ; raḏ·nū לֽוֹא־ we will lō·w- נָב֥וֹא come nā·ḇō·w אֵלֶֽיךָ׃ to You ’ê·le·ḵā ע֖וֹד no more ’ ? ‘ō·wḏ Jeremiah 2:32 בְּתוּלָה֙ Does a maiden bə·ṯū·lāh הֲתִשְׁכַּ֤ח forget hă·ṯiš·kaḥ עֶדְיָ֔הּ her jewelry ‘eḏ·yāh כַּלָּ֖ה or a bride kal·lāh קִשֻּׁרֶ֑יהָ her wedding sash ? qiš·šu·re·hā וְעַמִּ֣י Yet My people wə·‘am·mî שְׁכֵח֔וּנִי have forgotten Me šə·ḵê·ḥū·nî יָמִ֖ים for days yā·mîm אֵ֥ין without ’ên מִסְפָּֽר׃ number . mis·pār Jeremiah 2:33 מַה־ How mah- תֵּיטִ֥בִי skillfully tê·ṭi·ḇî דַּרְכֵּ֖ךְ . . . dar·kêḵ לְבַקֵּ֣שׁ you pursue lə·ḇaq·qêš אַהֲבָ֑ה love ! ’a·hă·ḇāh לָכֵן֙ . . . lā·ḵên גַּ֣ם Even gam אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הָרָע֔וֹת the most immoral of women hā·rā·‘ō·wṯ לִמַּדְתִּי could learn lim·maḏ·tī אֶת־ - ’eṯ- דְּרָכָֽיִךְ׃ from your ways . də·rā·ḵā·yiḵ Jeremiah 2:34 גַּ֤ם Moreover , gam בִּכְנָפַ֙יִךְ֙ your skirts biḵ·nā·p̄a·yiḵ נִמְצְא֔וּ are stained nim·ṣə·’ū דַּ֛ם with the blood dam נַפְשׁ֥וֹת . . . nap̄·šō·wṯ נְקִיִּ֑ים of the innocent nə·qî·yîm אֶבְיוֹנִ֖ים poor , ’eḇ·yō·w·nîm לֹֽא־ though you did not lō- מְצָאתִ֖ים find them mə·ṣā·ṯîm בַמַּחְתֶּ֥רֶת breaking in . ḇam·maḥ·te·reṯ כִּ֥י But kî עַל־ in spite of ‘al- כָּל־ all kāl- אֵֽלֶּה׃ these things ’êl·leh Jeremiah 2:35 וַתֹּֽאמְרִי֙ you say , wat·tō·mə·rî כִּ֣י . . . kî נִקֵּ֔יתִי ‘ I am innocent . niq·qê·ṯî אַ֛ךְ Surely ’aḵ אַפּ֖וֹ His anger ’ap·pōw שָׁ֥ב will turn šāḇ מִמֶּ֑נִּי from me .’ mim·men·nî הִנְנִי֙ Behold , hin·nî נִשְׁפָּ֣ט I will judge niš·pāṭ אוֹתָ֔ךְ you , ’ō·w·ṯāḵ עַל־ because ‘al- אָמְרֵ֖ךְ you say , ’ā·mə·rêḵ לֹ֥א ‘ I have not lō חָטָֽאתִי׃ sinned .’ ḥā·ṭā·ṯî Jeremiah 2:36 מַה־ How mah- תֵּזְלִ֥י unstable you are , tê·zə·lî מְאֹ֖ד constantly mə·’ōḏ לְשַׁנּ֣וֹת changing lə·šan·nō·wṯ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- דַּרְכֵּ֑ךְ your ways ! dar·kêḵ גַּ֤ם . . . gam תֵּב֔וֹשִׁי You will be disappointed tê·ḇō·wō·šî מִמִּצְרַ֙יִם֙ by Egypt mim·miṣ·ra·yim כַּאֲשֶׁר־ just as ka·’ă·šer- בֹּ֖שְׁתְּ you [were] bō·šət מֵאַשּֽׁוּר׃ by Assyria . mê·’aš·šūr Jeremiah 2:37 גַּ֣ם Moreover , gam מֵאֵ֥ת . . . mê·’êṯ תֵּֽצְאִ֔י you will leave tê·ṣə·’î זֶה֙ that place zeh וְיָדַ֖יִךְ with your hands wə·yā·ḏa·yiḵ עַל־ on ‘al- רֹאשֵׁ֑ךְ your head , rō·šêḵ כִּֽי־ for kî- יְהֹוָה֙ YHWH Yah·weh מָאַ֤ס has rejected mā·’as
