וְנֶהֶפְכ֤וּ will be turned wə·ne·hep̄·ḵū לְזֶ֔פֶת to tar , lə·ze·p̄eṯ וַעֲפָרָ֖הּ and her soil wa·‘ă·p̄ā·rāh לְגָפְרִ֑ית to sulfur ; lə·ḡā·p̄ə·rîṯ אַרְצָ֔הּ her land ’ar·ṣāh וְהָיְתָ֣ה will become wə·hā·yə·ṯāh בֹּעֵרָֽה׃ a blazing bō·‘ê·rāh לְזֶ֖פֶת pitch . lə·ze·p̄eṯ Isaiah 34:10 לֹ֣א It will not lō תִכְבֶּ֔ה be quenched — ṯiḵ·beh וְיוֹמָם֙ day wə·yō·w·mām לַ֤יְלָה or night . lay·lāh עֲשָׁנָ֑הּ Its smoke ‘ă·šā·nāh יַעֲלֶ֣ה will ascend ya·‘ă·leh לְעוֹלָ֖ם forever . lə·‘ō·w·lām מִדּ֤וֹר From generation mid·dō·wr לָדוֹר֙ to generation lā·ḏō·wr תֶּחֱרָ֔ב it will lie desolate ; te·ḥĕ·rāḇ אֵ֥ין no one ’ên לְנֵ֣צַח will ever again lə·nê·ṣaḥ נְצָחִ֔ים . . . nə·ṣā·ḥîm עֹבֵ֖ר pass ‘ō·ḇêr בָּֽהּ׃ through it . bāh Isaiah 34:11 קָאַ֣ת The desert owl qā·’aṯ וְקִפּ֔וֹד and screech owl wə·qip·pō·wḏ וִירֵשׁ֙וּהָ֙ will possess it , wî·rê·šū·hā וְיַנְשׁ֥וֹף and the great owl wə·yan·šō·wp̄ וְעֹרֵ֖ב and raven wə·‘ō·rêḇ יִשְׁכְּנוּ־ will dwell yiš·kə·nū- בָ֑הּ in it . ḇāh וְנָטָ֥ה YHWH will stretch out wə·nā·ṭāh עָלֶ֛יהָ over [Edom] ‘ā·le·hā קַֽו־ a measuring line qaw- תֹ֖הוּ of chaos ṯō·hū וְאַבְנֵי־ and a plumb line wə·’aḇ·nê- בֹֽהוּ׃ of destruction . ḇō·hū Isaiah 34:12 וְאֵֽין־ No wə·’ên- שָׁ֖ם . . . šām חֹרֶ֥יהָ nobles ḥō·re·hā יִקְרָ֑אוּ will be left to proclaim yiq·rā·’ū מְלוּכָ֣ה a king , mə·lū·ḵāh וְכָל־ and all wə·ḵāl שָׂרֶ֖יהָ her princes śā·re·hā יִ֥הְיוּ will come yih·yū אָֽפֶס׃ to nothing . ’ā·p̄es Isaiah 34:13 אַרְמְנֹתֶ֙יהָ֙ Her towers ’ar·mə·nō·ṯe·hā וְעָלְתָ֤ה will be overgrown wə·‘ā·lə·ṯāh סִירִ֔ים with thorns , sî·rîm בְּמִבְצָרֶ֑יהָ her fortresses bə·miḇ·ṣā·re·hā קִמּ֥וֹשׂ with thistles qim·mō·wś וָח֖וֹחַ and briers . wā·ḥō·w·aḥ וְהָיְתָה֙ She will become wə·hā·yə·ṯāh נְוֵ֣ה a haunt nə·wêh תַנִּ֔ים for jackals , ṯan·nîm חָצִ֖יר an abode ḥā·ṣîr לִבְנ֥וֹת vvv liḇ·nō·wṯ יַעֲנָֽה׃ for ostriches . ya·‘ă·nāh Isaiah 34:14 צִיִּים֙ The desert creatures ṣî·yîm אֶת־ - ’eṯ- וּפָגְשׁ֤וּ will meet ū·p̄ā·ḡə·šū אִיִּ֔ים with hyenas , ’î·yîm וְשָׂעִ֖יר and one wild goat wə·śā·‘îr יִקְרָ֑א will call yiq·rā עַל־ to ‘al- רֵעֵ֣הוּ another . rê·‘ê·hū אַךְ־ vvv ’aḵ- שָׁם֙ There šām לִּילִ֔ית the night creature lî·lîṯ הִרְגִּ֣יעָה will settle hir·gî·‘āh וּמָצְאָ֥ה and find ū·mā·ṣə·’āh לָ֖הּ her lāh מָנֽוֹחַ׃ place of repose . mā·nō·w·aḥ Isaiah 34:15 שָׁ֣מָּה There šām·māh קִפּוֹז֙ the owl will qip·pō·wz קִנְּנָ֤ה make her nest ; qin·nə·nāh וַתְּמַלֵּ֔ט she will lay wat·tə·mal·lêṭ וּבָקְעָ֖ה and hatch her eggs ū·ḇā·qə·‘āh וְדָגְרָ֣ה and gather wə·ḏā·ḡə·rāh בְצִלָּ֑הּ her brood under her shadow . ḇə·ṣil·lāh אַךְ־ Even ’aḵ- שָׁ֛ם there šām דַיּ֖וֹת the birds of prey ḏay·yō·wṯ
