וְהָיָ֨ה . . . wə·hā·yāh כִֽי־ When ḵî- יִרְעַ֜ב they are famished , yir·‘aḇ וְהִתְקַצַּ֗ף they will become enraged ; wə·hiṯ·qaṣ·ṣap̄ וּפָנָ֥ה and looking ū·p̄ā·nāh לְמָֽעְלָה׃ upward , lə·mā·‘ə·lāh וְקִלֵּ֧ל they will curse wə·qil·lêl בְּמַלְכּ֛וֹ their king bə·mal·kōw וּבֵאלֹהָ֖יו and their God . ū·ḇê·lō·hāw Isaiah 8:22 יַבִּ֑יט Then they will look yab·bîṭ וְאֶל־ to wə·’el- אֶ֖רֶץ the earth ’e·reṣ וְהִנֵּ֨ה and see wə·hin·nêh צָרָ֤ה only distress ṣā·rāh וַחֲשֵׁכָה֙ and darkness wa·ḥă·šê·ḵāh מְע֣וּף and the gloom mə·‘ūp̄ צוּקָ֔ה of anguish . ṣū·qāh מְנֻדָּֽח׃ And they will be driven mə·nud·dāḥ וַאֲפֵלָ֖ה into utter darkness . wa·’ă·p̄ê·lāh Isaiah 9:1 כִּ֣י Nevertheless , kî לֹ֣א there will be no more lō מוּעָף֮ gloom mū·‘āp̄ לַאֲשֶׁ֣ר for those la·’ă·šer מוּצָ֣ק in distress mū·ṣāq לָהּ֒ . lāh הָרִאשׁ֗וֹן In the past hā·ri·šō·wn כָּעֵ֣ת . . . kā·‘êṯ הֵקַ֞ל He humbled hê·qal אַ֤רְצָה the land ’ar·ṣāh זְבֻלוּן֙ of Zebulun zə·ḇu·lūn וְאַ֣רְצָה and the land wə·’ar·ṣāh נַפְתָּלִ֔י of Naphtali , nap̄·tā·lî וְהָאַחֲר֖וֹן but in the future wə·hā·’a·ḥă·rō·wn הִכְבִּ֑יד He will honor hiḵ·bîḏ דֶּ֤רֶךְ the Way de·reḵ הַיָּם֙ of the Sea , hay·yām עֵ֣בֶר beyond ‘ê·ḇer הַיַּרְדֵּ֔ן the Jordan , hay·yar·dên גְּלִ֖יל Galilee gə·lîl הַגּוֹיִֽם׃ of the nations : hag·gō·w·yim Isaiah 9:2 הָעָם֙ The people hā·‘ām הַהֹלְכִ֣ים walking ha·hō·lə·ḵîm בַּחֹ֔שֶׁךְ in darkness ba·ḥō·šeḵ רָא֖וּ have seen rā·’ū גָּד֑וֹל a great gā·ḏō·wl א֣וֹר light ; ’ō·wr עֲלֵיהֶֽם׃ on ‘ă·lê·hem יֹשְׁבֵי֙ those living yō·šə·ḇê בְּאֶ֣רֶץ in the land bə·’e·reṣ צַלְמָ֔וֶת of the shadow of death , ṣal·mā·weṯ א֖וֹר a light ’ō·wr נָגַ֥הּ has dawned . nā·ḡah Isaiah 9:3 הִרְבִּ֣יתָ You have enlarged hir·bî·ṯā הַגּ֔וֹי the nation hag·gō·w לֹא . . . lō הִגְדַּ֣לְתָּ and increased hiḡ·dal·tā הַשִּׂמְחָ֑ה its joy . haś·śim·ḥāh שָׂמְח֤וּ The people rejoice śā·mə·ḥū לְפָנֶ֙יךָ֙ before You lə·p̄ā·ne·ḵā כְּשִׂמְחַ֣ת as they rejoice kə·śim·ḥaṯ בַּקָּצִ֔יר at harvest time , baq·qā·ṣîr כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר as ka·’ă·šer יָגִ֖ילוּ [men] rejoice yā·ḡî·lū בְּחַלְּקָ֥ם in dividing bə·ḥal·lə·qām שָׁלָֽל׃ the plunder . šā·lāl Isaiah 9:4 כִּ֣י׀ For kî אֶת־ - ’eṯ- כְּי֥וֹם as in the day kə·yō·wm מִדְיָֽן׃ of Midian miḏ·yān הַחִתֹּ֖תָ You have shattered ha·ḥit·tō·ṯā עֹ֣ל the yoke ‘ōl סֻבֳּל֗וֹ of their burden , sub·bo·lōw וְאֵת֙ - wə·’êṯ מַטֵּ֣ה the bar [across] maṭ·ṭêh שִׁכְמ֔וֹ their shoulders , šiḵ·mōw שֵׁ֖בֶט and the rod šê·ḇeṭ הַנֹּגֵ֣שׂ of their oppressor han·nō·ḡêś בּ֑וֹ . . . . bōw Isaiah 9:5 כִּ֤י For kî כָל־ every ḵāl סֹאֵ֣ן trampling sō·’ên סְאוֹן֙ boot sə·’ō·wn
