Ecclesiastes 6:8 מַה־ What mah- יּוֹתֵ֥ר advantage , yō·w·ṯêr כִּ֛י then , kî לֶחָכָ֖ם has the wise man le·ḥā·ḵām מִֽן־ over min- הַכְּסִ֑יל the fool ? hak·kə·sîl מַה־ What [gain comes] mah- לֶּעָנִ֣י to the poor man le·‘ā·nî יוֹדֵ֔עַ who knows yō·w·ḏê·a‘ לַהֲלֹ֖ךְ how to conduct himself la·hă·lōḵ נֶ֥גֶד before ne·ḡeḏ הַחַיִּֽים׃ others ? ha·ḥay·yîm Ecclesiastes 6:9 ט֛וֹב Better ṭō·wḇ עֵינַ֖יִם what the eye ‘ê·na·yim מַרְאֵ֥ה can see mar·’êh מֵֽהֲלָךְ־ than the wandering mê·hă·lāḵ- נָ֑פֶשׁ of desire . nā·p̄eš זֶ֥ה This zeh גַּם־ too gam- הֶ֖בֶל is futile he·ḇel וּרְע֥וּת and a pursuit ū·rə·‘ūṯ רֽוּחַ׃ of the wind . rū·aḥ Ecclesiastes 6:10 מַה־ Whatever mah- שֶּֽׁהָיָ֗ה exists še·hā·yāh נִקְרָ֣א was named niq·rā שְׁמ֔וֹ . . . šə·mōw כְּבָר֙ long ago , kə·ḇār אֲשֶׁר־ and what [happens] ’ă·šer- אָדָ֑ם to a man ’ā·ḏām וְנוֹדָ֖ע is foreknown ; wə·nō·w·ḏā‘ ה֣וּא but he hū וְלֹא־ cannot wə·lō- יוּכַ֣ל . . . yū·ḵal לָדִ֔ין contend lā·ḏîn עִ֥ם with ‘im שֶׁהַתְקִיף one stronger šɛ·haṯ·qīp̄ מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃ than he . mim·men·nū Ecclesiastes 6:11 כִּ֛י For kî יֵשׁ־ vvv yêš- הַרְבֵּ֖ה the more har·bêh דְּבָרִ֥ים words , də·ḇā·rîm מַרְבִּ֣ים the more mar·bîm הָ֑בֶל futility — hā·ḇel מַה־ and how mah- יֹּתֵ֖ר does that profit yō·ṯêr לָאָדָֽם׃ anyone ? lā·’ā·ḏām Ecclesiastes 6:12 כִּ֣י For kî מִֽי־ who mî- יוֹדֵעַ֩ knows yō·w·ḏê·a‘ מַה־ what mah- טּ֨וֹב is good ṭō·wḇ לָֽאָדָ֜ם for a man lā·’ā·ḏām בַּֽחַיִּ֗ים - ba·ḥay·yîm מִסְפַּ֛ר during the few mis·par יְמֵי־ days [in which] yə·mê- וְיַעֲשֵׂ֣ם he passes through wə·ya·‘ă·śêm הֶבְל֖וֹ his fleeting heḇ·lōw חַיֵּ֥י life ḥay·yê כַּצֵּ֑ל like a shadow ? kaṣ·ṣêl אֲשֶׁר֙ - ’ă·šer מִֽי־ Who mî- יַגִּ֣יד can tell yag·gîḏ לָֽאָדָ֔ם a man lā·’ā·ḏām מַה־ what mah- יִּהְיֶ֥ה will come yih·yeh אַחֲרָ֖יו after him ’a·ḥă·rāw תַּ֥חַת under ta·ḥaṯ הַשָּֽׁמֶשׁ׃ the sun ? haš·šā·meš Ecclesiastes 7:1 שֵׁ֖ם A good name šêm ט֥וֹב is better ṭō·wḇ ט֑וֹב than fine ṭō·wḇ מִשֶּׁ֣מֶן perfume , miš·še·men וְי֣וֹם and one’s day wə·yō·wm הַמָּ֔וֶת of death ham·mā·weṯ מִיּ֖וֹם [is better] than his day mî·yō·wm הִוָּלְדֽוֹ׃ of birth . hiw·wā·lə·ḏōw Ecclesiastes 7:2 ט֞וֹב It is better ṭō·wḇ לָלֶ֣כֶת to enter lā·le·ḵeṯ אֶל־ . . . ’el- בֵּֽית־ a house bêṯ- אֵ֗בֶל of mourning ’ê·ḇel
