Proverbs 29:1 אִ֣ישׁ A man who ’îš מַקְשֶׁה־ remains stiff-necked maq·šeh- עֹ֑רֶף . . . ‘ō·rep̄ תּ֭וֹכָחוֹת after much reproof tō·w·ḵā·ḥō·wṯ פֶּ֥תַע will suddenly pe·ṯa‘ יִ֝שָּׁבֵ֗ר be shattered yiš·šā·ḇêr וְאֵ֣ין - wə·’ên מַרְפֵּֽא׃ beyond recovery . mar·pê Proverbs 29:2 צַ֭דִּיקִים When the righteous ṣad·dî·qîm בִּרְב֣וֹת flourish , bir·ḇō·wṯ הָעָ֑ם the people hā·‘ām יִשְׂמַ֣ח rejoice , yiś·maḥ רָ֝שָׁ֗ע but when the wicked rā·šā‘ וּבִמְשֹׁ֥ל rule , ū·ḇim·šōl עָֽם׃ the people ‘ām יֵאָ֥נַֽח groan . yê·’ā·naḥ Proverbs 29:3 אִֽישׁ־ A man ’îš- אֹהֵ֣ב who loves ’ō·hêḇ חָ֭כְמָה wisdom ḥāḵ·māh יְשַׂמַּ֣ח brings joy yə·śam·maḥ אָבִ֑יו to his father , ’ā·ḇîw וְרֹעֶ֥ה but a companion wə·rō·‘eh ז֝וֹנ֗וֹת of prostitutes zō·w·nō·wṯ יְאַבֶּד־ squanders yə·’ab·beḏ- הֽוֹן׃ his wealth . hō·wn Proverbs 29:4 בְּ֭מִשְׁפָּט By justice bə·miš·pāṭ מֶ֗לֶךְ a king me·leḵ יַעֲמִ֣יד brings stability ya·‘ă·mîḏ אָ֑רֶץ to the land , ’ā·reṣ וְאִ֖ישׁ but a man wə·’îš תְּרוּמ֣וֹת who exacts tribute tə·rū·mō·wṯ יֶֽהֶרְסֶֽנָּה׃ demolishes it . ye·her·sen·nāh Proverbs 29:5 גֶּ֭בֶר A man ge·ḇer מַחֲלִ֣יק who flatters ma·ḥă·lîq רֵעֵ֑הוּ his neighbor rê·‘ê·hū פּוֹרֵ֥שׂ spreads pō·w·rêś עַל־ . . . ‘al- רֶ֝֗שֶׁת a net re·šeṯ עַל־ for ‘al- פְּעָמָֽיו׃ his feet . pə·‘ā·māw Proverbs 29:6 רָ֣ע An evil rā‘ אִ֣ישׁ man ’îš מוֹקֵ֑שׁ is caught mō·w·qêš בְּפֶ֤שַֽׁע by his own sin , bə·p̄e·ša‘ וְ֝צַדִּ֗יק but a righteous one wə·ṣad·dîq יָר֥וּן sings yā·rūn וְשָׂמֵֽחַ׃ and rejoices . wə·śā·mê·aḥ Proverbs 29:7 צַ֭דִּיק The righteous ṣad·dîq יֹדֵ֣עַ consider yō·ḏê·a‘ דִּ֣ין the cause dîn דַּלִּ֑ים of the poor , dal·lîm רָ֝שָׁ֗ע but the wicked rā·šā‘ לֹא־ have no lō- יָבִ֥ין regard yā·ḇîn דָּֽעַת׃ for such concerns . dā·‘aṯ Proverbs 29:8 אַנְשֵׁ֣י Mockers ’an·šê לָ֭צוֹן . . . lā·ṣō·wn יָפִ֣יחוּ inflame yā·p̄î·ḥū קִרְיָ֑ה a city , qir·yāh וַ֝חֲכָמִ֗ים but the wise wa·ḥă·ḵā·mîm יָשִׁ֥יבוּ turn away yā·šî·ḇū אָֽף׃ anger . ’āp̄ Proverbs 29:9 חָכָ֗ם If a wise ḥā·ḵām אִֽישׁ־ man ’îš- נִ֭שְׁפָּט goes to court niš·pāṭ אֶת־ with ’eṯ- אִ֣ישׁ . . . ’îš אֱוִ֑יל a fool , ’ĕ·wîl וְרָגַ֥ז there will be raving wə·rā·ḡaz וְ֝שָׂחַ֗ק and laughing wə·śā·ḥaq וְאֵ֣ין with no wə·’ên נָֽחַת׃ resolution . nā·ḥaṯ
