כֶּ֫ן־ [counting the cost] ken- ה֥וּא . . . . hū אֱכֹ֣ל “ Eat ’ĕ·ḵōl וּ֭שְׁתֵה and drink , ” ū·šə·ṯêh יֹ֣אמַר he says yō·mar לָ֑ךְ to you , lāḵ וְ֝לִבּ֗וֹ but his heart wə·lib·bōw בַּל־ is not bal- עִמָּֽךְ׃ with you . ‘im·māḵ Proverbs 23:8 תְקִיאֶ֑נָּה You will vomit up ṯə·qî·’en·nāh פִּֽתְּךָ־ what little pit·tə·ḵā- אָכַ֥לְתָּ you have eaten ’ā·ḵal·tā וְ֝שִׁחַ֗תָּ and waste wə·ši·ḥa·tā הַנְּעִימִֽים׃ your pleasant han·nə·‘î·mîm דְּבָרֶ֥יךָ words . də·ḇā·re·ḵā Proverbs 23:9 בְּאָזְנֵ֣י - bə·’ā·zə·nê אַל־ Do not ’al- תְּדַבֵּ֑ר speak tə·ḏab·bêr כְ֭סִיל to a fool , ḵə·sîl כִּֽי־ for kî- יָ֝ב֗וּז he will despise yā·ḇūz לְשֵׂ֣כֶל the wisdom lə·śê·ḵel מִלֶּֽיךָ׃ of your words . mil·le·ḵā Proverbs 23:10 אַל־ Do not ’al- תַּ֭סֵּג move tas·sêḡ עוֹלָ֑ם an ancient ‘ō·w·lām גְּב֣וּל boundary stone gə·ḇūl אַל־ [or] ’al- תָּבֹֽא׃ encroach tā·ḇō וּבִשְׂדֵ֥י on the fields ū·ḇiś·ḏê יְ֝תוֹמִ֗ים of the fatherless , yə·ṯō·w·mîm Proverbs 23:11 כִּֽי־ for kî- גֹאֲלָ֥ם their Redeemer ḡō·’ă·lām חָזָ֑ק is strong ; ḥā·zāq הֽוּא־ He hū- יָרִ֖יב will take up yā·rîḇ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- רִיבָ֣ם their case rî·ḇām אִתָּֽךְ׃ against you . ’it·tāḵ Proverbs 23:12 הָבִ֣יאָה Apply hā·ḇî·’āh לִבֶּ֑ךָ your heart lib·be·ḵā לַמּוּסָ֣ר to instruction lam·mū·sār וְ֝אָזְנֶ֗ךָ and your ears wə·’ā·zə·ne·ḵā לְאִמְרֵי־ to words lə·’im·rê- דָֽעַת׃ of knowledge . ḏā·‘aṯ Proverbs 23:13 אַל־ Do not ’al- תִּמְנַ֣ע withhold tim·na‘ מוּסָ֑ר discipline mū·sār מִנַּ֣עַר from a child ; min·na·‘ar כִּֽי־ although kî- תַכֶּ֥נּוּ you strike him ṯak·ken·nū בַ֝שֵּׁ֗בֶט with a rod , ḇaš·šê·ḇeṭ לֹ֣א he will not lō יָמֽוּת׃ die . yā·mūṯ Proverbs 23:14 אַ֭תָּה - ’at·tāh תַּכֶּ֑נּוּ Strike him tak·ken·nū בַּשֵּׁ֣בֶט with a rod , baš·šê·ḇeṭ תַּצִּֽיל׃ and you will deliver taṣ·ṣîl וְ֝נַפְשׁ֗וֹ his soul wə·nap̄·šōw מִשְּׁא֥וֹל from Sheol . miš·šə·’ō·wl Proverbs 23:15 בְּ֭נִי My son , bə·nî אִם־ if ’im- לִבֶּ֑ךָ your heart lib·be·ḵā חָכַ֣ם is wise , ḥā·ḵam לִבִּ֣י my own heart lib·bî גַם־ will indeed ḡam- אָֽנִי׃ . . . ’ā·nî יִשְׂמַ֖ח rejoice . yiś·maḥ Proverbs 23:16 כִלְיוֹתָ֑י My inmost being ḵil·yō·w·ṯāy וְתַעְלֹ֥זְנָה will rejoice wə·ṯa‘·lō·zə·nāh שְׂ֝פָתֶ֗יךָ when your lips p̄ā·ṯe·ḵā בְּדַבֵּ֥ר speak bə·ḏab·bêr מֵישָׁרִֽים׃ what is right . mê·šā·rîm
