לְבַ֣עַל to him lə·ḇa·‘al מַשְׁחִֽית׃ who destroys . maš·ḥîṯ Proverbs 18:10 שֵׁ֣ם The name šêm יְהוָ֑ה of YHWH Yah·weh עֹ֭ז is a strong ‘ōz מִגְדַּל־ tower ; miḡ·dal- צַדִּ֣יק the righteous ṣad·dîq יָר֖וּץ run yā·rūṣ בּֽוֹ־ to it bōw- וְנִשְׂגָּֽב׃ and are safe . wə·niś·gāḇ Proverbs 18:11 עָ֭שִׁיר A rich ‘ā·šîr ה֣וֹן man’s wealth hō·wn עֻזּ֑וֹ is his fortified ‘uz·zōw קִרְיַ֣ת city ; qir·yaṯ נִ֝שְׂגָּבָ֗ה it is like a high niś·gā·ḇāh וּכְחוֹמָ֥ה wall ū·ḵə·ḥō·w·māh בְּמַשְׂכִּיתֽוֹ׃ in his imagination . bə·maś·kî·ṯōw Proverbs 18:12 לִפְנֵי־ Before lip̄·nê·še- שֶׁ֭בֶר his downfall ḇer אִ֑ישׁ a man’s ’îš לֵב־ heart lêḇ- יִגְבַּ֣הּ is proud , yiḡ·bah עֲנָוָֽה׃ but humility ‘ă·nā·wāh וְלִפְנֵ֖י comes before wə·lip̄·nê כָב֣וֹד honor . ḵā·ḇō·wḏ Proverbs 18:13 מֵשִׁ֣יב He who answers mê·šîḇ דָּ֭בָר a matter dā·ḇār בְּטֶ֣רֶם before bə·ṭe·rem יִשְׁמָ֑ע he hears [it] — yiš·mā‘ הִיא־ this hî- אִוֶּ֥לֶת [is] folly ’iw·we·leṯ וּכְלִמָּֽה׃ and disgrace ū·ḵə·lim·māh ל֝֗וֹ to him . lōw Proverbs 18:14 רֽוּחַ־ The spirit rū·aḥ- אִ֭ישׁ of a man ’îš יְכַלְכֵּ֣ל can endure yə·ḵal·kêl מַחֲלֵ֑הוּ his sickness , ma·ḥă·lê·hū מִ֣י but who mî יִשָּׂאֶֽנָּה׃ can survive yiś·śā·’en·nāh נְ֝כֵאָ֗ה a broken nə·ḵê·’āh וְר֥וּחַ spirit ? wə·rū·aḥ Proverbs 18:15 לֵ֣ב The heart lêḇ נָ֭בוֹן of the discerning nā·ḇō·wn יִקְנֶה־ acquires yiq·neh- דָּ֑עַת knowledge , dā·‘aṯ וְאֹ֥זֶן and the ear wə·’ō·zen חֲ֝כָמִ֗ים of the wise ḥă·ḵā·mîm תְּבַקֶּשׁ־ seeks tə·ḇaq·qeš- דָּֽעַת׃ it out . dā·‘aṯ Proverbs 18:16 אָ֭דָם A man’s ’ā·ḏām מַתָּ֣ן gift mat·tān יַרְחִ֣יב opens doors yar·ḥîḇ ל֑וֹ for him , lōw יַנְחֶֽנּוּ׃ and brings him yan·ḥen·nū וְלִפְנֵ֖י before wə·lip̄·nê גְדֹלִ֣ים great men . ḡə·ḏō·lîm Proverbs 18:17 הָרִאשׁ֣וֹן The first hā·ri·šō·wn בְּרִיב֑וֹ to state his case bə·rî·ḇōw צַדִּ֣יק seems right ṣad·dîq רֵ֝עֵ֗הוּ until another יָבֹא comes yå̄·ḇō וַחֲקָרֽוֹ׃ and cross-examines him . wa·ḥă·qā·rōw Proverbs 18:18 הַגּוֹרָ֑ל Casting the lot hag·gō·w·rāl וּבֵ֖ין . . . ū·ḇên יַשְׁבִּ֣ית ends yaš·bîṯ מִ֭דְיָנִים quarrels miḏ·yā·nîm יַפְרִֽיד׃ and separates yap̄·rîḏ עֲצוּמִ֣ים strong opponents . ‘ă·ṣū·mîm Proverbs 18:19 נִפְשָׁ֥ע An offended nip̄·šā‘ אָ֗ח brother [is harder to win] ’āḥ
