Proverbs 17:19 אֹ֣הֵֽב He who loves ’ō·hêḇ פֶּ֭שַׁע transgression pe·ša‘ אֹהֵ֣ב loves ’ō·hêḇ מַצָּ֑ה strife ; maṣ·ṣāh פִּ֝תְח֗וֹ he who builds his gate piṯ·ḥōw מַגְבִּ֥יהַּ high maḡ·bî·ah מְבַקֶּשׁ־ invites mə·ḇaq·qeš- שָֽׁבֶר׃ destruction . šā·ḇer Proverbs 17:20 עִקֶּשׁ־ The one with a perverse ‘iq·qeš- לֵ֭ב heart lêḇ יִמְצָא־ finds yim·ṣā- לֹ֣א no lō ט֑וֹב good , ṭō·wḇ בִּ֝לְשׁוֹנ֗וֹ and he whose tongue bil·šō·w·nōw וְנֶהְפָּ֥ךְ is deceitful wə·neh·pāḵ יִפּ֥וֹל falls yip·pō·wl בְּרָעָֽה׃ into trouble . bə·rā·‘āh Proverbs 17:21 יֹלֵ֣ד A man fathers yō·lêḏ כְּ֭סִיל a fool kə·sîl לְת֣וּגָה to his own grief lə·ṯū·ḡāh ל֑וֹ ; lōw אֲבִ֣י the father ’ă·ḇî נָבָֽל׃ of a fool nā·ḇāl וְלֹֽא־ has no wə·lō- יִ֝שְׂמַ֗ח joy . yiś·maḥ Proverbs 17:22 שָׂ֭מֵחַ A joyful mê·aḥ לֵ֣ב heart lêḇ יֵיטִ֣ב is good yê·ṭiḇ גֵּהָ֑ה medicine , gê·hāh נְ֝כֵאָ֗ה but a broken nə·ḵê·’āh וְר֥וּחַ spirit wə·rū·aḥ תְּיַבֶּשׁ־ dries up tə·yab·beš- גָּֽרֶם׃ the bones . gā·rem Proverbs 17:23 רָשָׁ֣ע A wicked [man] rā·šā‘ יִקָּ֑ח takes yiq·qāḥ מֵ֭חֵיק a covert mê·ḥêq שֹׁ֣חַד bribe šō·ḥaḏ לְ֝הַטּ֗וֹת to subvert lə·haṭ·ṭō·wṯ אָרְח֥וֹת the course ’ā·rə·ḥō·wṯ מִשְׁפָּֽט׃ of justice . miš·pāṭ Proverbs 17:24 חָכְמָ֑ה Wisdom ḥāḵ·māh אֶת־ vvv ’eṯ- פְּנֵ֣י is the focus pə·nê מֵבִ֣ין of the discerning , mê·ḇîn וְעֵינֵ֥י but the eyes wə·‘ê·nê כְ֝סִ֗יל of a fool ḵə·sîl בִּקְצֵה־ wander to the ends biq·ṣêh- אָֽרֶץ׃ of the earth . ’ā·reṣ Proverbs 17:25 כְּסִ֑יל A foolish kə·sîl בֵּ֣ן son bên כַּ֣עַס brings grief ka·‘as לְ֭אָבִיו to his father lə·’ā·ḇîw וּ֝מֶ֗מֶר and bitterness ū·me·mer לְיוֹלַדְתּֽוֹ׃ to her who bore him . lə·yō·w·laḏ·tōw Proverbs 17:26 גַּ֤ם It is surely gam לֹא־ not lō- ט֑וֹב good ṭō·wḇ עֲנ֣וֹשׁ to punish ‘ă·nō·wōš לַצַּדִּ֣יק the innocent laṣ·ṣad·dîq לְהַכּ֖וֹת or to flog lə·hak·kō·wṯ נְדִיבִ֣ים a noble nə·ḏî·ḇîm עַל־ for ‘al- יֹֽשֶׁר׃ his honesty . yō·šer Proverbs 17:27 יוֹדֵ֣עַ A man of knowledge yō·w·ḏê·a‘ דָּ֑עַת . . . dā·‘aṯ חוֹשֵׂ֣ךְ restrains ḥō·w·śêḵ אֲ֭מָרָיו his words , ’ă·mā·rāw אִ֣ישׁ and a man ’îš תְּבוּנָֽה׃ of understanding tə·ḇū·nāh וְקַר maintains a calm wə·qar ר֝֗וּחַ spirit .
