Proverbs 17:28 גַּ֤ם Even gam אֱוִ֣יל a fool ’ĕ·wîl יֵחָשֵׁ֑ב is considered yê·ḥā·šêḇ חָכָ֣ם wise ḥā·ḵām מַ֭חֲרִישׁ if he keeps silent , ma·ḥă·rîš נָבֽוֹן׃ [and] discerning nā·ḇō·wn אֹטֵ֖ם when he holds ’ō·ṭêm שְׂפָתָ֣יו his tongue . śə·p̄ā·ṯāw Proverbs 18:1 נִפְרָ֑ד He who isolates himself nip̄·rāḏ יְבַקֵּ֣שׁ pursues yə·ḇaq·qêš לְֽ֭תַאֲוָה selfish desires ; lə·ṯa·’ă·wāh יִתְגַּלָּֽע׃ he rebels yiṯ·gal·lā‘ בְּכָל־ against all bə·ḵāl תּ֝וּשִׁיָּ֗ה sound judgment . tū·šî·yāh Proverbs 18:2 כְּ֭סִיל A fool kə·sîl לֹֽא־ does not lō- יַחְפֹּ֣ץ delight yaḥ·pōṣ בִּתְבוּנָ֑ה in understanding , biṯ·ḇū·nāh כִּ֝֗י but only kî אִֽם־ . . . ’im- בְּהִתְגַּלּ֥וֹת in airing bə·hiṯ·gal·lō·wṯ לִבּֽוֹ׃ his opinions . lib·bōw Proverbs 18:3 רָ֭שָׁע With a wicked [man] rā·šā‘ בְּֽבוֹא־ comes bə·ḇō·w- בּ֑וּז contempt būz גַם־ as well ḡam- בָּ֣א . . . , bā קָל֥וֹן and shame qā·lō·wn וְֽעִם־ is accompanied by wə·‘im- חֶרְפָּֽה׃ disgrace . ḥer·pāh Proverbs 18:4 דִּבְרֵ֣י The words diḇ·rê אִ֑ישׁ of a man’s ’îš פִי־ mouth p̄î- עֲ֭מֻקִּים are deep ‘ă·muq·qîm מַ֣יִם waters ; ma·yim מְק֣וֹר the fountain mə·qō·wr חָכְמָֽה׃ of wisdom ḥāḵ·māh נֹ֝בֵ֗עַ is a bubbling nō·ḇê·a‘ נַ֥חַל brook . na·ḥal Proverbs 18:5 שְׂאֵ֣ת Showing partiality śə·’êṯ פְּנֵי־ vvv pə·nê- רָשָׁ֣ע to the wicked rā·šā‘ לֹא־ is not lō- ט֑וֹב good , ṭō·wḇ לְהַטּ֥וֹת nor is depriving lə·haṭ·ṭō·wṯ צַ֝דִּ֗יק the innocent ṣad·dîq בַּמִּשְׁפָּֽט׃ of justice . bam·miš·pāṭ Proverbs 18:6 כְ֭סִיל A fool’s ḵə·sîl שִׂפְתֵ֣י lips śip̄·ṯê יָבֹ֣אֽוּ bring him yā·ḇō·’ū בְרִ֑יב strife , ḇə·rîḇ וּ֝פִ֗יו and his mouth ū·p̄îw יִקְרָֽא׃ invites yiq·rā לְֽמַהֲלֻמ֥וֹת a beating . lə·ma·hă·lu·mō·wṯ Proverbs 18:7 כְ֭סִיל A fool’s ḵə·sîl פִּֽי־ mouth pî- מְחִתָּה־ is his ruin mə·ḥit·tāh- ל֑וֹ , lōw וּ֝שְׂפָתָ֗יו and his lips ū·śə·p̄ā·ṯāw מוֹקֵ֥שׁ [are] a snare mō·w·qêš נַפְשֽׁוֹ׃ to his soul . nap̄·šōw Proverbs 18:8 דִּבְרֵ֣י The words diḇ·rê נִ֭רְגָּן of a gossip nir·gān כְּמִֽתְלַהֲמִ֑ים are like choice morsels kə·miṯ·la·hă·mîm וְ֝הֵ֗ם that wə·hêm יָרְד֥וּ go down yā·rə·ḏū חַדְרֵי־ into the inmost being ḥaḏ·rê- בָֽטֶן׃ . . . . ḇā·ṭen Proverbs 18:9 גַּ֭ם Whoever gam מִתְרַפֶּ֣ה is slothful miṯ·rap·peh בִמְלַאכְתּ֑וֹ in his work ḇim·laḵ·tōw אָ֥ח is brother ’āḥ ה֝֗וּא . . . hū
