וַיַּרְא֙ He saw way·yar אִ֣ישׁ . . . ’îš מִצְרִ֔י an Egyptian miṣ·rî מַכֶּ֥ה beating mak·keh אִישׁ־ . . . ’îš- עִבְרִ֖י a Hebrew , ‘iḇ·rî מֵאֶחָֽיו׃ one of his own people . mê·’e·ḥāw Exodus 2:12 וַיִּ֤פֶן After looking way·yi·p̄en כֹּה֙ this way kōh וָכֹ֔ה [and] that wā·ḵōh וַיַּ֖רְא and seeing way·yar כִּ֣י . . . kî אֵ֣ין no ’ên אִ֑ישׁ one , ’îš וַיַּךְ֙ he struck down way·yaḵ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הַמִּצְרִ֔י the Egyptian ham·miṣ·rî וַֽיִּטְמְנֵ֖הוּ and hid his body way·yiṭ·mə·nê·hū בַּחֽוֹל׃ in the sand . ba·ḥō·wl Exodus 2:13 הַשֵּׁנִ֔י The next haš·šê·nî בַּיּ֣וֹם day bay·yō·wm וַיֵּצֵא֙ [Moses] went out way·yê·ṣê וְהִנֵּ֛ה and saw wə·hin·nêh שְׁנֵֽי־ two šə·nê- אֲנָשִׁ֥ים . . . ’ă·nā·šîm עִבְרִ֖ים Hebrews ‘iḇ·rîm נִצִּ֑ים fighting . niṣ·ṣîm וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ He asked way·yō·mer לָֽרָשָׁ֔ע the one in the wrong , lā·rā·šā‘ לָ֥מָּה “ Why lām·māh תַכֶּ֖ה are you attacking ṯak·keh רֵעֶֽךָ׃ your companion ? ” rê·‘e·ḵā Exodus 2:14 וַ֠יֹּאמֶר But the man replied , way·yō·mer מִ֣י “ Who mî שָֽׂמְךָ֞ made śā·mə·ḵā לְאִ֨ישׁ you lə·’îš שַׂ֤ר ruler śar וְשֹׁפֵט֙ and judge wə·šō·p̄êṭ עָלֵ֔ינוּ over us ? ‘ā·lê·nū אַתָּ֣ה Are you ’at·tāh אֹמֵ֔ר planning ’ō·mêr הַלְהָרְגֵ֙נִי֙ to kill me hal·hā·rə·ḡê·nî כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר as ka·’ă·šer הָרַ֖גְתָּ you killed hā·raḡ·tā אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הַמִּצְרִ֑י the Egyptian ? ” ham·miṣ·rî מֹשֶׁה֙ Then Moses mō·šeh וַיִּירָ֤א was afraid way·yî·rā וַיֹּאמַ֔ר and thought , way·yō·mar הַדָּבָֽר׃ “ This thing I have done had·dā·ḇār אָכֵ֖ן has surely ’ā·ḵên נוֹדַ֥ע become known . ” nō·w·ḏa‘ Exodus 2:15 פַּרְעֹה֙ When Pharaoh par·‘ōh אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הַדָּבָ֣ר - had·dā·ḇār וַיִּשְׁמַ֤ע heard way·yiš·ma‘ הַזֶּ֔ה about this matter , haz·zeh וַיְבַקֵּ֖שׁ he sought way·ḇaq·qêš לַהֲרֹ֣ג to kill la·hă·rōḡ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- מֹשֶׁ֑ה Moses . mō·šeh מֹשֶׁה֙ But Moses mō·šeh וַיִּבְרַ֤ח fled way·yiḇ·raḥ מִפְּנֵ֣י from mip·pə·nê פַרְעֹ֔ה Pharaoh p̄ar·‘ōh וַיֵּ֥שֶׁב and settled way·yê·šeḇ בְּאֶֽרֶץ־ in the land bə·’e·reṣ- מִדְיָ֖ן of Midian , miḏ·yān וַיֵּ֥שֶׁב where he sat down way·yê·šeḇ עַֽל־ beside ‘al- הַבְּאֵֽר׃ a well . hab·bə·’êr Exodus 2:16 וּלְכֹהֵ֥ן Now the priest ū·lə·ḵō·hên מִדְיָ֖ן of Midian miḏ·yān שֶׁ֣בַע had seven še·ḇa‘ בָּנ֑וֹת daughters , bā·nō·wṯ וַתָּבֹ֣אנָה and they came wat·tā·ḇō·nāh וַתִּדְלֶ֗נָה to draw water wat·tiḏ·le·nāh וַתְּמַלֶּ֙אנָה֙ and fill wat·tə·mal·le·nāh אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הָ֣רְהָטִ֔ים the troughs hā·rə·hā·ṭîm לְהַשְׁק֖וֹת to water lə·haš·qō·wṯ אֲבִיהֶֽן׃ their father’s ’ă·ḇî·hen צֹ֥אן flock . ṣōn
