לְדֹ֣ר for endless generations lə·ḏōr וָדֹ֑ר . . . — wā·ḏōr עֲלֵ֣י even though ‘ă·lê אֲדָמֽוֹת׃ [their] lands ’ă·ḏā·mō·wṯ קָֽרְא֥וּ were their namesakes qā·rə·’ū בִ֝שְׁמוֹתָ֗ם . . . . ḇiš·mō·w·ṯām Psalm 49:12 וְאָדָ֣ם But a man , wə·’ā·ḏām בִּ֭יקָר despite his wealth , bî·qār בַּל־ cannot bal- יָלִ֑ין endure ; yā·lîn נִמְשַׁ֖ל he is like nim·šal כַּבְּהֵמ֣וֹת the beasts kab·bə·hê·mō·wṯ נִדְמֽוּ׃ that perish . niḏ·mū Psalm 49:13 זֶ֣ה This zeh דַ֭רְכָּם is the fate ḏar·kām כֵּ֣סֶל of the self-confident kê·sel לָ֑מוֹ lā·mōw וְאַחֲרֵיהֶ֓ם׀ and their followers wə·’a·ḥă·rê·hem יִרְצ֣וּ who endorse yir·ṣū בְּפִיהֶ֖ם their sayings . bə·p̄î·hem סֶֽלָה׃ Selah se·lāh Psalm 49:14 כַּצֹּ֤אן׀ Like sheep kaṣ·ṣōn שַׁתּוּ֮ they are destined šat·tū לִֽשְׁא֣וֹל for Sheol . liš·’ō·wl מָ֤וֶת Death mā·weṯ יִ֫רְעֵ֥ם will be their shepherd . yir·‘êm יְשָׁרִ֨ים׀ The upright yə·šā·rîm וַיִּרְדּ֘וּ will rule them way·yir·dū בָ֤ם in ḇām לַבֹּ֗קֶר the morning , lab·bō·qer וְצִירָם and their form wə·ṣī·rå̄m לְבַלּ֥וֹת will decay lə·ḇal·lō·wṯ שְׁא֗וֹל in Sheol , šə·’ō·wl מִזְּבֻ֥ל far from their lofty abode miz·zə·ḇul לֽוֹ׃ . lōw Psalm 49:15 אַךְ־ But ’aḵ- אֱלֹהִ֗ים God ’ĕ·lō·hîm יִפְדֶּ֣ה will redeem yip̄·deh נַ֭פְשִׁי my life nap̄·šî מִֽיַּד־ from mî·yaḏ- שְׁא֑וֹל Sheol , šə·’ō·wl כִּ֖י for kî יִקָּחֵ֣נִי He will surely take me to Himself . yiq·qā·ḥê·nî סֶֽלָה׃ Selah se·lāh Psalm 49:16 אַל־ Do not ’al- תִּ֭ירָא be amazed tî·rā כִּֽי־ when kî- אִ֑ישׁ a man ’îš יַעֲשִׁ֣ר grows rich , ya·‘ă·šir כִּֽי־ when kî- כְּב֣וֹד the splendor kə·ḇō·wḏ בֵּיתֽוֹ׃ of his house bê·ṯōw יִ֝רְבֶּה increases . yir·beh Psalm 49:17 כִּ֤י For kî בְ֭מוֹתוֹ when he dies , ḇə·mō·w·ṯōw יִקַּ֣ח he will carry yiq·qaḥ לֹ֣א nothing away lō הַכֹּ֑ל . . . ; hak·kōl כְּבוֹדֽוֹ׃ his abundance kə·ḇō·w·ḏōw לֹא־ will not lō- אַחֲרָ֣יו follow him ’a·ḥă·rāw יֵרֵ֖ד down . yê·rêḏ Psalm 49:18 כִּֽי־ Though kî- בְּחַיָּ֣יו in his lifetime bə·ḥay·yāw יְבָרֵ֑ךְ he blesses yə·ḇā·rêḵ נַ֭פְשׁוֹ his soul — nap̄·šōw וְ֝יוֹדֻ֗ךָ and men praise wə·yō·w·ḏu·ḵā כִּי־ you when kî- תֵיטִ֥יב you prosper ṯê·ṭîḇ לָֽךְ׃ — lāḵ Psalm 49:19 תָּ֭בוֹא he will join tā·ḇō·w עַד־ . . . ‘aḏ- דּ֣וֹר the generation dō·wr אֲבוֹתָ֑יו of his fathers , ’ă·ḇō·w·ṯāw עַד־ who will never ‘aḏ- נֵ֝֗צַח . . . nê·ṣaḥ
