חָֽלֶד׃ of the world , ḥā·leḏ Psalm 49:2 גַּם־ both gam- בְּנֵ֣י low and high bə·nê אָ֭דָם . . . , ’ā·ḏām גַּם־ . . . gam- בְּנֵי־ . . . bə·nê- אִ֑ישׁ . . . ’îš עָשִׁ֥יר rich ‘ā·šîr וְאֶבְיֽוֹן׃ and poor wə·’eḇ·yō·wn יַ֝֗חַד alike . ya·ḥaḏ Psalm 49:3 פִּ֭י My mouth pî יְדַבֵּ֣ר will impart yə·ḏab·bêr חָכְמ֑וֹת wisdom , ḥā·ḵə·mō·wṯ וְהָג֖וּת and the meditation wə·hā·ḡūṯ לִבִּ֣י of my heart lib·bî תְבוּנֽוֹת׃ will bring understanding . ṯə·ḇū·nō·wṯ Psalm 49:4 אַטֶּ֣ה I will incline ’aṭ·ṭeh אָזְנִ֑י my ear ’ā·zə·nî לְמָשָׁ֣ל to a proverb ; lə·mā·šāl אֶפְתַּ֥ח I will express ’ep̄·taḥ חִידָתִֽי׃ my riddle ḥî·ḏā·ṯî בְּ֝כִנּ֗וֹר with the harp : bə·ḵin·nō·wr Psalm 49:5 לָ֣מָּה Why lām·māh אִ֭ירָא should I fear ’î·rā בִּ֣ימֵי in times bî·mê רָ֑ע of trouble , rā‘ עֲוֺ֖ן when wicked ‘ă·wōn עֲקֵבַ֣י usurpers ‘ă·qê·ḇay יְסוּבֵּֽנִי׃ surround me ? yə·sū·bê·nî Psalm 49:6 הַבֹּטְחִ֥ים They trust hab·bō·ṭə·ḥîm עַל־ in ‘al- חֵילָ֑ם their wealth ḥê·lām יִתְהַלָּֽלוּ׃ and boast yiṯ·hal·lā·lū וּבְרֹ֥ב in their great ū·ḇə·rōḇ עָ֝שְׁרָ֗ם riches . ‘ā·šə·rām Psalm 49:7 לֹא־ No lō- אָ֗ח man ’āḥ פָדֹ֣ה can possibly p̄ā·ḏōh יִפְדֶּ֣ה redeem yip̄·deh אִ֑ישׁ his brother ’îš לֹא־ or lō- יִתֵּ֖ן pay yit·tên כָּפְרֽוֹ׃ his ransom kā·p̄ə·rōw לֵאלֹהִ֣ים to God . lê·lō·hîm Psalm 49:8 פִּדְי֥וֹן For the redemption piḏ·yō·wn נַפְשָׁ֗ם of his soul nap̄·šām וְ֭יֵקַר is costly , wə·yê·qar לְעוֹלָֽם׃ and never lə·‘ō·w·lām וְחָדַ֥ל can payment suffice , wə·ḥā·ḏal Psalm 49:9 וִֽיחִי־ that he should live on wî·ḥî- ע֥וֹד . . . ‘ō·wḏ לָנֶ֑צַח forever lā·ne·ṣaḥ לֹ֖א and not lō יִרְאֶ֣ה see yir·’eh הַשָּֽׁחַת׃ decay . haš·šā·ḥaṯ Psalm 49:10 כִּ֤י For kî יִרְאֶ֨ה׀ it is clear yir·’eh חֲכָ֘מִ֤ים that wise ḥă·ḵā·mîm יָמ֗וּתוּ men die , yā·mū·ṯū כְּסִ֣יל and the foolish kə·sîl וָבַ֣עַר and the senseless wā·ḇa·‘ar יַ֤חַד both ya·ḥaḏ יֹאבֵ֑דוּ perish yō·ḇê·ḏū וְעָזְב֖וּ and leave wə·‘ā·zə·ḇū חֵילָֽם׃ their wealth ḥê·lām לַאֲחֵרִ֣ים to others . la·’ă·ḥê·rîm Psalm 49:11 קִרְבָּ֤ם Their graves qir·bām לְֽעוֹלָ֗ם are their eternal lə·‘ō·w·lām בָּתֵּ֨ימוֹ׀ homes — bāt·tê·mōw מִ֭שְׁכְּנֹתָם their dwellings miš·kə·nō·ṯām
