Psalm 40:17 וַאֲנִ֤י׀ But I [am] wa·’ă·nî עָנִ֣י poor ‘ā·nî וְאֶבְיוֹן֮ and needy ; wə·’eḇ·yō·wn אֲדֹנָ֪י may the Lord ’ă·ḏō·nāy יַחֲשָׁ֫ב think ya·ḥă·šāḇ לִ֥י of me . lî אַ֑תָּה You ’at·tāh עֶזְרָתִ֣י are my helper ‘ez·rā·ṯî וּמְפַלְטִ֣י and deliverer ; ū·mə·p̄al·ṭî אֱ֝לֹהַ֗י O my God , ’ĕ·lō·hay אַל־ do not ’al- תְּאַחַֽר׃ delay . tə·’a·ḥar Psalm 41:1 לַמְנַצֵּ֗חַ For the choirmaster . lam·naṣ·ṣê·aḥ מִזְמ֥וֹר A Psalm miz·mō·wr לְדָוִֽד׃ of David . lə·ḏā·wiḏ אַ֭שְׁרֵי Blessed ’aš·rê מַשְׂכִּ֣יל [is] the one who cares maś·kîl אֶל־ for ’el- דָּ֑ל the poor ; dāl יְהוָֽה׃ YHWH Yah·weh יְֽמַלְּטֵ֥הוּ will deliver him yə·mal·lə·ṭê·hū בְּי֥וֹם in the day bə·yō·wm רָ֝עָ֗ה of trouble . rā·‘āh Psalm 41:2 יְהוָ֤ה׀ YHWH Yah·weh יִשְׁמְרֵ֣הוּ will protect yiš·mə·rê·hū וִֽ֭יחַיֵּהוּ and preserve him ; wî·ḥay·yê·hū יֶאְשֹּׁר He will bless him yɛʾš·šōr בָּאָ֑רֶץ in the land bā·’ā·reṣ וְאַֽל־ and refuse wə·’al- תִּ֝תְּנֵ֗הוּ to surrender him tit·tə·nê·hū בְּנֶ֣פֶשׁ to the will bə·ne·p̄eš אֹיְבָֽיו׃ of his foes . ’ō·yə·ḇāw Psalm 41:3 יְֽהוָ֗ה YHWH Yah·weh יִ֭סְעָדֶנּוּ will sustain him yis·‘ā·ḏen·nū עַל־ on ‘al- עֶ֣רֶשׂ his bed ‘e·reś דְּוָ֑י of illness də·wāy הָפַ֥כְתָּ and restore him hā·p̄aḵ·tā מִ֝שְׁכָּב֗וֹ from his bed miš·kā·ḇōw כָּל־ . . . kāl- בְחָלְיֽוֹ׃ of sickness . ḇə·ḥā·lə·yōw Psalm 41:4 אֲ I ’ănî- אָ֭מַרְתִּי said , ’ā·mar·tî יְהוָ֣ה “ O YHWH , Yah·weh חָנֵּ֑נִי be gracious to me ; ḥān·nê·nî רְפָאָ֥ה heal rə·p̄ā·’āh נַ֝פְשִׁ֗י me , nap̄·šî כִּי־ for kî- חָטָ֥אתִי I have sinned ḥā·ṭā·ṯî לָֽךְ׃ against You . ” lāḵ Psalm 41:5 אוֹיְבַ֗י My enemies ’ō·wy·ḇay יֹאמְר֣וּ say yō·mə·rū רַ֣ע with malice ra‘ לִ֑י : lî מָתַ֥י “ When mā·ṯay יָ֝מ֗וּת will he die yā·mūṯ וְאָבַ֥ד and be forgotten wə·’ā·ḇaḏ שְׁמֽוֹ׃ . . . ? ” šə·mōw Psalm 41:6 וְאִם־ My visitor wə·’im- בָּ֤א . . . bā לִרְא֨וֹת׀ . . . lir·’ō·wṯ יְדַבֵּ֗ר speaks yə·ḏab·bêr שָׁ֤וְא falsehood ; šāw יִקְבָּץ־ he gathers yiq·bāṣ- אָ֥וֶן slander ’ā·wen ל֑וֹ in his lōw לִבּ֗וֹ heart ; lib·bōw יֵצֵ֖א he goes yê·ṣê לַח֣וּץ out la·ḥūṣ יְדַבֵּֽר׃ and spreads it abroad . yə·ḏab·bêr Psalm 41:7 כָּל־ All kāl- שֹׂנְאָ֑י who hate śō·nə·’āy עָלַ֓י׀ me ‘ā·lay יִ֭תְלַחֲשׁוּ whisper yiṯ·la·ḥă·šū יַ֗חַד . . . ya·ḥaḏ עָלַ֣י against me ; ‘ā·lay יַחְשְׁב֖וּ they imagine yaḥ·šə·ḇū רָעָ֣ה the worst rā·‘āh לִֽי׃ for me : lî
