הַשָּׂטָ֛ן Satan haś·śā·ṭān אֶת־ - ’eṯ- וַיַּ֧עַן replied way·ya·‘an וַיֹּאמַ֑ר . . . . way·yō·mar לָאִ֔ישׁ “ A man lā·’îš יִתֵּ֖ן will give up yit·tên וְכֹל֙ all wə·ḵōl אֲשֶׁ֣ר he owns ’ă·šer בְּעַ֥ד in exchange for bə·‘aḏ נַפְשֽׁוֹ׃ his life . nap̄·šōw Job 2:5 אוּלָם֙ But ’ū·lām שְֽׁלַֽח־ stretch out šə·laḥ- נָ֣א . . . nā יָֽדְךָ֔ Your hand yā·ḏə·ḵā וְגַ֥ע and strike wə·ḡa‘ אֶל־ ’el- בְּשָׂר֑וֹ his flesh bə·śā·rōw עַצְמ֖וֹ and bones , ‘aṣ·mōw וְאֶל־ . . . wə·’el- אִם־ and he will surely ’im- לֹ֥א . . . lō יְבָרֲכֶֽךָּ׃ curse You yə·ḇā·ră·ḵe·kā אֶל־ to ’el- פָּנֶ֖יךָ Your face .” pā·ne·ḵā Job 2:6 הִנּ֣וֹ “ Very well , ” hin·nōw וַיֹּ֧אמֶר said way·yō·mer יְהוָ֛ה YHWH Yah·weh אֶל־ . . . ’el- הַשָּׂטָ֖ן to Satan . haś·śā·ṭān בְיָדֶ֑ךָ “ He is in your hands , ḇə·yā·ḏe·ḵā אַ֖ךְ but ’aḵ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- שְׁמֹֽר׃ you must spare šə·mōr נַפְשׁ֥וֹ his life .” nap̄·šōw Job 2:7 הַשָּׂטָ֔ן So Satan haś·śā·ṭān מֵאֵ֖ת . . . mê·’êṯ וַיֵּצֵא֙ went out way·yê·ṣê פְּנֵ֣י from the presence pə·nê יְהוָ֑ה of YHWH Yah·weh וַיַּ֤ךְ and infected way·yaḵ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- אִיּוֹב֙ Job ’î·yō·wḇ רָ֔ע with terrible rā‘ בִּשְׁחִ֣ין boils biš·ḥîn מִכַּ֥ף from the soles mik·kap̄ רַגְל֖וֹ of his feet raḡ·lōw עַד to ʿaḏ קָדְקֳדֽוֹ׃ the crown of his head . qā·ḏə·qo·ḏōw Job 2:8 וַיִּֽקַּֽח־ And Job took way·yiq·qaḥ- ל֣וֹ lōw חֶ֔רֶשׂ a piece of broken pottery ḥe·reś לְהִתְגָּרֵ֖ד to scrape lə·hiṯ·gā·rêḏ בּ֑וֹ himself bōw וְה֖וּא as he wə·hū יֹשֵׁ֥ב sat yō·šêḇ בְּתוֹךְ־ among bə·ṯō·wḵ- הָאֵֽפֶר׃ the ashes . hā·’ê·p̄er Job 2:9 אִשְׁתּ֔וֹ Then [Job’s] wife ’iš·tōw וַתֹּ֤אמֶר said wat·tō·mer לוֹ֙ to him , lōw עֹדְךָ֖ “ Do you still ‘ō·ḏə·ḵā מַחֲזִ֣יק retain ma·ḥă·zîq בְּתֻמָּתֶ֑ךָ your integrity ? bə·ṯum·mā·ṯe·ḵā בָּרֵ֥ךְ Curse bā·rêḵ אֱלֹהִ֖ים God ’ĕ·lō·hîm וָמֻֽת׃ and die !” wā·muṯ Job 2:10 כְּדַבֵּ֞ר “ You speak kə·ḏab·bêr אַחַ֤ת as a ’a·ḥaṯ הַנְּבָלוֹת֙ foolish woman han·nə·ḇā·lō·wṯ תְּדַבֵּ֔רִי speaks , ” tə·ḏab·bê·rî גַּ֣ם . . . gam אֶת־ - ’eṯ- וַיֹּ֣אמֶר he told way·yō·mer אֵלֶ֗יהָ her . ’ê·le·hā נְקַבֵּל֙ “ Should we accept nə·qab·bêl מֵאֵ֣ת from mê·’êṯ הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים God hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm הַטּ֗וֹב only good haṭ·ṭō·wḇ וְאֶת־ - wə·’eṯ- לֹ֣א and not lō נְקַבֵּ֑ל . . . nə·qab·bêl הָרָ֖ע adversity ? ” hā·rā‘
