וַיַּבְהִ֙לוּ֙ and rushed way·yaḇ·hi·lū לְהָבִ֣יא . . . lə·hā·ḇî אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הָמָ֔ן [him] hā·mān אֶל־ to ’el- הַמִּשְׁתֶּ֖ה the banquet ham·miš·teh אֲשֶׁר־ that ’ă·šer- אֶסְתֵּֽר׃ Esther ’es·têr עָשְׂתָ֥ה had prepared . ‘ā·śə·ṯāh Esther 7:1 הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ So the king ham·me·leḵ וְהָמָ֔ן and Haman wə·hā·mān וַיָּבֹ֤א went way·yā·ḇō לִשְׁתּ֖וֹת to dine liš·tō·wṯ עִם־ with ‘im- אֶסְתֵּ֥ר Esther ’es·têr הַמַּלְכָּֽה׃ the queen , ham·mal·kāh Esther 7:2 בְּמִשְׁתֵּ֣ה and as they drank bə·miš·têh הַיַּ֔יִן their wine hay·ya·yin הַשֵּׁנִי֙ on that second haš·šê·nî בַּיּ֤וֹם day , bay·yō·wm הַמֶּ֨לֶךְ the king ham·me·leḵ וַיֹּאמֶר֩ asked way·yō·mer גַּ֣ם once more gam לְאֶסְתֵּ֜ר - , lə·’es·têr הַמַּלְכָּ֖ה “ Queen ham·mal·kāh אֶסְתֵּ֥ר Esther , ’es·têr מַה־ what [is] mah- שְּׁאֵלָתֵ֛ךְ your petition ? šə·’ê·lā·ṯêḵ וְתִנָּ֣תֵֽן It will be given wə·ṯin·nā·ṯên לָ֑ךְ to you . lāḵ וּמַה־ What [is] ū·mah- בַּקָּשָׁתֵ֛ךְ your request ? baq·qā·šā·ṯêḵ עַד־ Even up to ‘aḏ- חֲצִ֥י half ḥă·ṣî הַמַּלְכ֖וּת the kingdom , ham·mal·ḵūṯ וְתֵעָֽשׂ׃ it will be fulfilled . ” wə·ṯê·‘āś Esther 7:3 הַמַּלְכָּה֙ Queen ham·mal·kāh אֶסְתֵּ֤ר Esther ’es·têr וַתַּ֨עַן replied wat·ta·‘an וַתֹּאמַ֔ר , wat·tō·mar אִם־ “ If ’im- מָצָ֨אתִי I have found mā·ṣā·ṯî חֵ֤ן favor ḥên בְּעֵינֶ֙יךָ֙ in your sight , bə·‘ê·ne·ḵā הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ O king , ham·me·leḵ וְאִם־ and if wə·’im- ט֑וֹב it pleases ṭō·wḇ הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ the king ham·me·leḵ עַל־ , ‘al- תִּנָּֽתֶן־ grant tin·nā·ṯen- לִ֤י me lî נַפְשִׁי֙ my life nap̄·šî בִּשְׁאֵ֣לָתִ֔י as my petition , biš·’ê·lā·ṯî וְעַמִּ֖י and [the lives of] my people wə·‘am·mî בְּבַקָּשָׁתִֽי׃ as my request . bə·ḇaq·qā·šā·ṯî Esther 7:4 כִּ֤י For kî וְעַמִּ֔י my people wə·‘am·mî אֲנִ֣י and I ’ă·nî נִמְכַּ֙רְנוּ֙ have been sold out nim·kar·nū לְהַשְׁמִ֖יד to destruction , lə·haš·mîḏ לַהֲר֣וֹג death , la·hă·rō·wḡ וּלְאַבֵּ֑ד and annihilation . ū·lə·’ab·bêḏ וְ֠אִלּוּ If wə·’il·lū נִמְכַּ֙רְנוּ֙ we had merely been sold nim·kar·nū לַעֲבָדִ֨ים as menservants la·‘ă·ḇā·ḏîm וְלִשְׁפָח֤וֹת and maidservants , wə·liš·p̄ā·ḥō·wṯ הֶחֱרַ֔שְׁתִּי I would have remained silent , he·ḥĕ·raš·tî כִּ֣י because kî אֵ֥ין no ’ên הַצָּ֛ר such distress haṣ·ṣār שֹׁוֶ֖ה would justify šō·weh בְּנֵ֥זֶק burdening bə·nê·zeq הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ס the king . ” ham·me·leḵ Esther 7:5 הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ Then King ham·me·leḵ אֲחַשְׁוֵר֔וֹשׁ Xerxes ’ă·ḥaš·wê·rō·wōš וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ spoke up way·yō·mer וַיֹּ֖אמֶר and asked way·yō·mer הַמַּלְכָּ֑ה Queen ham·mal·kāh לְאֶסְתֵּ֣ר Esther , lə·’es·têr מִ֣י “ Who mî זֶה֙ is this , zeh וְאֵֽי־ and where wə·’ê- זֶ֣ה . . . zeh ה֔וּא . . . hū ה֥וּא is the one hū
