יָאִ֧יר of Jair , yā·’îr בֶּן־ the son ben- שִׁמְעִ֛י of Shimei , šim·‘î בֶּן־ the son ben- קִ֖ישׁ of Kish . qîš Esther 2:6 אֲשֶׁ֤ר He ’ă·šer הָגְלָה֙ had been carried into exile hā·ḡə·lāh מִיר֣וּשָׁלַ֔יִם from Jerusalem mî·rū·šā·la·yim נְבוּכַדְנֶאצַּ֖ר by Nebuchadnezzar nə·ḇū·ḵaḏ·neṣ·ṣar מֶ֥לֶךְ king me·leḵ בָּבֶֽל׃ of Babylon bā·ḇel עִם־ among ‘im- הַגֹּלָה֙ those taken captive hag·gō·lāh אֲשֶׁ֣ר - ’ă·šer הָגְלְתָ֔ה - hā·ḡə·lə·ṯāh עִ֖ם with ‘im יְכָנְיָ֣ה Jeconiah yə·ḵā·nə·yāh מֶֽלֶךְ־ king me·leḵ- יְהוּדָ֑ה of Judah yə·hū·ḏāh אֲשֶׁ֣ר - ’ă·šer הֶגְלָ֔ה - . heḡ·lāh Esther 2:7 וַיְהִ֨י And [Mordecai] way·hî אֹמֵ֜ן had brought up ’ō·mên אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הֲדַסָּ֗ה Hadassah hă·ḏas·sāh הִ֤יא (that is , hî אֶסְתֵּר֙ Esther ), ’es·têr בַּת־ the daughter baṯ- דֹּד֔וֹ of his uncle , dō·ḏōw כִּ֛י because kî אֵ֥ין she did not ’ên לָ֖הּ have lāh אָ֣ב a father ’āḇ וָאֵ֑ם or mother . wā·’êm וְהַנַּעֲרָ֤ה The young woman wə·han·na·‘ă·rāh יְפַת־ was lovely yə·p̄aṯ- תֹּ֙אַר֙ in form tō·’ar וְטוֹבַ֣ת and wə·ṭō·w·ḇaṯ מַרְאֶ֔ה appearance , mar·’eh אָבִ֙יהָ֙ and when her father ’ā·ḇî·hā וְאִמָּ֔הּ and mother wə·’im·māh וּבְמ֤וֹת had died , ū·ḇə·mō·wṯ מָרְדֳּכַ֛י Mordecai mā·rə·do·ḵay לְקָחָ֧הּ had taken her in lə·qā·ḥāh ל֖וֹ as his own lōw לְבַֽת׃ daughter . lə·ḇaṯ Esther 2:8 וַיְהִ֗י When way·hî הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ the king’s ham·me·leḵ דְּבַר־ command də·ḇar- וְדָת֔וֹ and edict wə·ḏā·ṯōw בְּהִשָּׁמַ֤ע had been proclaimed , bə·hiš·šā·ma‘ רַבּ֛וֹת many rab·bō·wṯ נְעָר֥וֹת young women nə·‘ā·rō·wṯ וּֽבְהִקָּבֵ֞ץ gathered ū·ḇə·hiq·qā·ḇêṣ אֶל־ at ’el- הַבִּירָ֖ה the citadel hab·bî·rāh שׁוּשַׁ֥ן of Susa šū·šan אֶל־ under ’el- יַ֣ד the care yaḏ הֵגָ֑י of Hegai . hê·ḡāy אֶסְתֵּר֙ Esther ’es·têr וַתִּלָּקַ֤ח was also taken wat·til·lā·qaḥ אֶל־ to ’el- בֵּ֣ית the palace bêṯ הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ . . . ham·me·leḵ אֶל־ and placed under ’el- יַ֥ד the care yaḏ הֵגַ֖י of Hegai , hê·ḡay שֹׁמֵ֥ר the custodian šō·mêr הַנָּשִֽׁים׃ of the women . han·nā·šîm Esther 2:9 הַנַּעֲרָ֣ה And the young woman han·na·‘ă·rāh וַתִּיטַ֨ב pleased him wat·tî·ṭaḇ בְעֵינָיו֮ . . . ḇə·‘ê·nāw וַתִּשָּׂ֣א and obtained wat·tiś·śā לְפָנָיו֒ his lə·p̄ā·nāw חֶ֣סֶד favor , ḥe·seḏ וַ֠יְבַהֵל so he quickly way·ḇa·hêl אֶת־ ’eṯ- לָתֵ֣ת provided lā·ṯêṯ לָ֔הּ her lāh תַּמְרוּקֶ֤יהָ with beauty treatments tam·rū·qe·hā וְאֶת־ - wə·’eṯ- מָנוֹתֶ֙הָ֙ and the special diet mā·nō·w·ṯe·hā וְאֵת֙ - . wə·’êṯ לָֽתֶת־ He assigned lā·ṯeṯ- לָ֖הּ to her lāh שֶׁ֣בַע seven še·ḇa‘ הָרְאֻי֥וֹת select hā·rə·’u·yō·wṯ
